Hi,
first of all, I do think that VCA puts out the best DVDs in terms of overall content (extras, picture quality, movies) but I am wondering at the moment why they are CONSTANTLY pushing back the release dates of their 'big release' movies!
I mean, 'Torn' was pushed back for a month or so, and now 'Dark Garden' which has been out on VHS for a long time (and which I'm dying to see on DVD) STILL hasn't come out!
Instead they are putting out frankly unimportant movies (Sorority Sex Kittens 2, Hardcore Hairdresser) every week or so.
Can anyone comment on this?

The major reason is DVD is highly Technical product to produce. Compatibilty problems arise in production that sometime pushes back titles release dates. I for one don't think VCA is the best out there. They do a good job, but not the best. Menus are top notch compared to some titles. I really think this will change with time. Companies will be more familiar with DVD production, and that should improve the time it takes to get them out.

I have talked with VCA about Dark Garden and they do expect it to be released in the next few weeks. I know that it can be frustrating to wait for a DVD when the VHS has been released for months.
Keep in mind that the studios don't intentionally delay their DVD releases. It's in their best interest to get their product on the market as soon as possible. However it does take longer to complete a DVD than a VHS tape and sometimes there are delays.
This isn't just a VCA problem. Almost every studio (mainstream and adult) has production delays with DVD. As Gojira54, mentioned producing a quality DVD with all the extra features that consumers expect is a time consuming and technical process. The studios want to protect their investment so they are very careful about catching mistakes and producing a high quality DVD. When the master is completed, if just 1 mistake is discovered it has to be sent back and redone before it can be replicated. This process is can take several months before the final master is completed. Unfortunately adult studios don't have the 6 month window between theatrical release and DVD that mainstream studios have.
Another issue that adult studios face is replication delays. Most of the domestic replication plants are at 100% capacity just from the mainstream studios. This has forced many adult studios to shift replication to Asian facilities creating even more delays.
Fortunately the studios are getting better and more domestic replication capacity is being added. This should help improve the situation but due to the nature of the products it may be a long time before adult DVDs are released at the same time as VHS.
