The main reason I went from a CRT to an LCD was because of the damn heat. I just couldn't stand it anymore. My old CRT seemed to have put out about as much heat as a small space heater. I also got really tired of the bad geometry on my old CRT (both of them, actually). It was seemingly impossible to correct and the harder I tried, the more fucked up it was. I like the fact that my LCD just knows what it's supposed to do and I the lines are as straight as they're supposed to be on anything I'm viewing.
As to your question. I think it depends on your video card but I'm not really sure.
What I can say as far as negatives for LCDs (or at least mine) is the color/contrast/brightness seems to be incredibly difficult to get it just right. But I guess that's always kind of been a problem.
I'm looking for some kind of adjustable arm I can mount my LCD on at the moment. I'd like to be able to lean back in my chair and place the monitor in front of me. That would be cool, no? The mounts for LCD monitors seem to be very expensive at the moment. I'm not really sure why. Even simple ones are costly.
