How long it takes depends on what the director wants. I have long (very long) hair so it takes awhile for that. I would say average is an hour and a half. make up artists use whatever they like. MAC was huge for awhile taking over the once staple of Max Factor. Many make up gals use brands I have never heard of that is available only to pros. [Link]

Chanel and Shisheido are great for pale skin. Lots of people like mineral makeup, but it sucks for camera... great for day to day. Sinn [Link]
