There are probably a few new models since that was posted but most of the data should still be valid.

I bought the Sampo DVE-631-CF and love it. Programming it for multi-region (etc) was a breeze. It works flawlessly playing PAL-format DVDs on my standard USA-style Sony NTSC-only televisions.

A few words of warning: Many multi-format players require that the television being attached be multi-format as well. This is not the case with Sampo units. Sampo models handle conversion internally so that their output can be either NTSC or PAL - your choice - regardless of the source material.

I've tried PAL format DVDs in it and had no problems with 'em or the player, so I can play PAL no problem.

I also have a Zenith which plays almost nothing now (NTSC or PAL), gonna replace that with another Philips soon.

I don't think it's a bad decision to experiment with PAL format DVDs, it's not like a good PAL capable DVD player is so expensive.

But it doesn't work with those DVDs that have the newer Region Check on them, Final Fantasy the movie.
So I have to set it back to Region 1.

But then again. I don't have any foreign DVDs so it doesn't seem to matter too much to me.

NTSC/PAL conversion is fully automatic; however, I do have to select via the menu system which output I prefer:

• S-video (& composite video) / Y-CB-CR
• NTSC / PAL / Multi

In order to have a player that will play any disc (including the newer ones that won't work with Region 0), I would just need to burn 7 CD's each containing the N681.TXT file, one for each region + Region 0.
