I've tried the KMPlayer for a while but it became too bloated and intrusive with ads and stuff. Then I moved on to PotPlayer which I am still using today but I like to stay aware of what's current... ...does anybody even read the tech talk forum anymore?

I've never felt the need to even consider looking for something "better". I don't really know how you can improve on that, unless you add more features. For this reason I was willing to look at alternative video software. But after fiddling around with VLC I've decided that I can deal with Potplayer's unwanted feature rather than watch hi-def videos with VLC and it's horrible a/v quality. VLC doesn't even allow resume play-back without installing an extra plug-in. Potplayer does this with a simple check box and it's recommended audio/video settings are excellent.Dude I think that a lot of people are just like you and being creatures of habit have stuck with this crappy software for way too long. It may be time to look at Potplayer or Media Player Classic (MPC-hc) because honestly you deserve better than this. I actually gave VLC a try a few years ago and I wasn't feeling it so yesterday made my second go at it and it looks even worse. I think VLC finally got around to opening more than once instance at a time, tricky to do on a Mac though, so I finally switched to that since it has widest support for almost any video type you'll ever run into. Also with VLC it lets you easily open the folders where I have all my different porn video separated and play them back continuously and randomly and save a playlist too and just click that and get it going. If VLC player can play it most likely nothing will. p.s. Lately I have started using PowerDVD too play my 4K video and only my 4K porn since I noticed that it plays them much faster than VLC. For "free" situations (e.g. other people's computers and computers of mine where I don't really use them as media computers, but still want the ability to play media if desired), VLC is an excellent program. I've also relied on VLC for odd file types that other players can't handle. For example, .f4v and some weird .wmv files were very problematic. The latest versions of PowerDVD, however, have gotten much better at handling the odd file types. Also, with odd file types, I will typically re-encode them into .mp4 files, so that I can play them on anything without difficulty. Movavi Video Converter does an excellent job of converting difficult files, while still maintaining the absolute highest quality output (which you typically can't achieve with "free" programs). Believe it or not, I usually need to re-encode NaughtyAmerica downloads so that they play smoothly. I'm downloading HD 1080 .mp4 files, and NA's are the only ones that have these issues. (It's not like I don't have enough horsepower: i7-3770 cpu on SATA III 6.0 motherboard with 16 MB of RAM.) Go figure [Link] |

Still, when I re-encode the NA files, I will leave them at 24 fps -- as it just isn't worth changing them to 30 fps. Besides, I noticed that changing them to 30 fps introduces some artifacts when you watch something in slow-motion. BTW, after re-encoding the NA files, they play like greased-lightning using Astroglide  [Link] |
