She parlayed her noteriety into a mainstream career, although I can't think of anything she's done lately.

Yeah, I know she did a very small amount of mainstream work, but what I really wonder about is her opinion of the porn world. She is actually someone who went through it at an age where she was supposedly completely unable to make sound decisions. All the critics would say this was horrible abuse and she should be really screwed up from it now. I wonder if she is or not.

Her Mainstream career was not "very small" by any means. Click Here for the Wikipedia article.
As for her opinion of the porn industry, she speaks pretty bitterly about it. But I don't buy it. Everything she's had in her life has been because of her porn career and the noteriety surrounding it. She also claims that the industry took advantage of her. Funny, she's the one who gave Jim South (and all the producers and directors) a valid US Passport saying she was 22. That's right, a valid US Passport. She conned the Government into giving her one using fake ID (Something South and others pointed out at trial.)She further claims that she can't remember her time in porn due to Alcohol/Drug use. Yet every one of her contemporaries interviewed on the subject unequivocally state that they never saw her take a drug on set. All in all, I find her protestations disingenuous, something she says to keep the myth of Traci Lords alive in furtherance of her mainstream career.
Uh, she's on the OC, which was huge about a year ago, not so much now. She's doing pretty good as a mainstream character actress. I think taking a acting classes helped. Just a wild guess.
Sure, but the money you can make in mainstream is more than you can directly make in porn. She quit because she had to - she was underage. Then she burned bridges really fast, so returning wasn't as much of an option for her as it was for Alexandria Quinn. Though of course now she would be welcomed back because there are so many companies and the notoriety is $$$.
I've seen her on the Sci-Fi channel. not sure if it is a series or a movie though.

I don't think she ever could have been a big star, and quite frankly, she did the same overacting in her mainstream work as she did in porn. And now with her pushing 40, her career options are really going to dry up.
The problem for her is, if she did return and do some porn, she would mostly destroy her mainstream career.
On the other hand, I believe Traci Lords returning and doing a select few porn projects would be huge... and make all concerned some serious money. I'd probably be willing to pay double what a normal porn DVD sells for (assuming it's any good).
Can you imagine Jules Jordan putting together a "Traci Lords Darkside" with the same standards he set with Jenna Haze Darkside? It would absolutely be a runaway best-seller!
I think returning to porn would seriously inhibit what she could do in the mainstream, but there are active (at the time) porn stars at the edges already. It would also remind people of her notoriety and get her another 15 minutes. Potentially it hurts her chances of a big payday, but I don't see good odds of that anyways.
I think doing porn projects, even if she isn't performing, would hurt her in a similar way.
I agree that her return would be huge, but I wouldn't buy any DVD in which she appears. Even though I was too young to see her when she was underage (I am now 31), I feel that she betrayed the porn community and brought far more grief than good.
Oddly, porn is both a brutal and yet absurdly forgiving industry, even when neither brutality nor forgiveness is warranted. For better and for worse, porn is money.
It isn't forgiving, it is greedy. Quasarman may remember, but many in porn today weren't around then.

She wrote a book called "Traci Lords: Underneath It All" which was released in 2003. I have not read it but I'm pretty sure it might answer your question.
the 1984 issue of Penthouse that featured Vanessa Williams eating pussy also featured a pictorial of an underage Lords. Copies of that issue have since been impounded by the FBI or something…it was one of the first spank rags I ever owned…fetches top dollar on ebay…

Traci has done a LOT of work, outside of porn. Though she's obviously NOT an 'A'-list mainstream actor like Julia Roberts, she's virtually a folk hero in some circles
She appeared in a lot SF/Fantasy films and TV. Highlander, Blade, the Tommyknockers, First Wave, MacGyver...
She cut some music albums, too.
The homegirl has done a lot of work. She didn't drop off the RADAR. Some of us simply lost track of her.
Selling on e-Bay is stupid. Any LEO seeing the auction has grounds to get a subpena to find out who the seller is. That is broadcasting to the world that you are selling what is legally kiddie porn. e-Bay backs up their records too.
I think you are actually agreeing with me, which leads me to believe that my point wasn't clear. When I typed "Porn is money", I meant to suggest that money seems to lead people to overlook transgressions and poor conduct.
I agree with you that the short length of many careers in porn is also a factor in the "forgiving" nature of the porn industry. For example, many people would not recognize Marc Wallice or have even heard of him. Yet there are people who do know him and his history and continue to employ him. I do not know why they do, but perhaps they believe it is cheaper to employ him than to find someone else to do his job (usually editing).
Also, people still conduct business with Rob Black. Some of those people have been around long enough to know his reputation for intentionally not honoring his debts. But if people believe that they have a way of making sure he pays them, they may be willing to overlook his bad reputation.
These are just the first two examples that come to mind. I'm sure there are others.
By the way, Quasar and Traci Lords were not in the business at the same time, although it is pretty likely that Quasar knows the Traci Lords story. I know that Tom Byron was around back then.
This is part of what I was saying. Quasarman has stated that he doesn't forgive what she did. Didn't need to be in the buisness at the time, just a point of view.
When Traci Lords was in the business, I was 15 years old and blissfully unaware of the porn biz. Actually, I don't think I've ever said anything regarding Traci. It was Alexandria Quinn who I said was a dumb whore and who never should have been allowed to work again.
Although I was too young to enjoy her when she was in the industry, I've been able to view a few of Traci's movies (thanx to sources that shall remain unnamed). Say what you will about what she did to the industry, if you just watch her performances, the reputation she had is truly deserved. She was a consumate sex performer. She was nasty and had a great body.
If you live anywhere that it's legal to see her stuff (which I believe includes Canada & many parts of Europe), check out "Battle of the Stars" and "It's My Body". Both are amazing examples of Traci's work.
I've had a chance to see several of her mainstream appearances and when she's stacked up against "proper" actors, of course she isn't going to measure up. At least not until her run in the 3rd season of "First Wave". I thought she did a great job there. But it was still cool to see her in "Blade" and to see a lot of her in "Not of This Earth" (1988).

you know whats ironically hilarious. somebody in this thread said if traci lords returned to porn it would ruin her mainstream career. BUT have you noticed how the prince of porn, RON JEREMY is all over the friggin place!!!! BUT heres where you gotta give hollwyood credit. OJ Simpson's name is crap. nobody wants to be seen with OJ. OJ is a murderer. What did Ron jeremy ever do to anybody, but maybe give the porn girls orgasms.
He gets no on-going parts in shows and Kathy Griffith has a more thriving career. Part of his career is the fame of his current grotesquery, but freak shows don't last.
