What do porn chicks do with their lives once they are done with their porn careers/once the porn world is done with them?

Do they forget all about it, go back to college with the money they've earned and cautiously saved up?
Do they get a sugardaddy to take care of them?
Do they lead miserable lives, ruined by the lifestyle associated with the business they were in, and the psychological side effects of their "craft"?

Do they go back home or stick around Southern California?

And what about sex? Do they still swing, or are they just plain disgusted with men?

Are they lonely? And if they find a companion, will he know about their past? Will their children -- at some point?

Yeah, what kind of lives do retired pornstars lead, and is there any difference between US and Euro girls in that respect?

There has never been any research done about this by social scientists, and there probably never will be, and it's too bad because I think it would be fascinating.

All your comments are appreciated, so that I may be enlightened... Call me sentimental, I'm concerned about what happens to all my beloved once they've vanished from my screen.

It's like the rest of the world, with more damage created.

Sunrise Adams-made a few attempts at the real estate world and is now considering returning to Vivid because at 22 she can't make a living any other way, everyone recognizes her and her whole family keeps ripping her off.

Others get pregnant and try to come back (olivia saint)

Some get married and return to the middle of the country (guage)

Add these into the crack whores, O.D.s, community college cosmotology programs and strip clubs and you pretty much round out the field.

I know a couple former porn girls that were smart and saved their money. Some own their own business i.e. a beauty salon, a clothing store, a restaurant etc.

Like posted above, some just become moms and or settle in the quiet life. It’s better then being on the “Dead Porn Star list”

The truth is it really varies depending on the girl although I'll tell you one thing: I have yet to hear of a porn girl yet who has gone back to school and finish up a 4 year degree from a non community college.

If they get noticed too much in the mainstream public, these girls are more limited to their choices in post-porn careers. That's the bummer about being in porn.

As for girls finding their love of the love, I've recently talked to a girl who was once in the industry 8 years ago and she said it's hard to find a decent guy who would love you and marry you. I mean there are guys but so many get too uneasy knowing the fact that she had performed with so many men. Her best friend also had the same problems. Truthfully, I think many girls in the industry today have problems keeping a good guy around.

Thanks for this food for thought.

To narrow it down for a second, what about these girls' sex life after porn ?

I guess that's why some men may be afraid to get into a serious relationship with a former pornstar... Thoughts would whirl around a guy's mind, such as: Is one man enough to satisfy this girl who slept with so many? (Silly question but : Do girls who've retired from porn actually miss being regularly DPed?) Can she still enjoy meaningful sex (put her soul into it) after she's done it with strangers, for money?

There is probably more than one way to lead a healthy sex life, and I'm not implying any kind of judgment here. But I wonder how a porn career might transform a girl's sex life forever? (Even though -- to decide to get into porn in the first place -- she must have had a special way of considering sex/her body from the start.)

I'm just parodying the way men might think, insecure as they are. Actually, I would think like that! and feel silly... Nevertheless my question is a serious one, about how a porn career might affect a girl's sexuality.

When you ask a question like the topic thread, you're going to get generalizations and anecdotes. While I'm sure that working in porn is/can be transformative, it doesn't necessarily mean into a hypersexual future. Or it could. It could turn into just sowing wild oats, then a lifetime of soccer mom drudgery. Or it could help a woman find her inner sexual beast. Certainly it causes insecurity on the part of potential mates. My feeling is that how successful and happy a woman becomes post porn is more predicated on how positive or negative her lifestyle is, and general sanity level. If she lives on pills and coke, washing it down with booze, then no good can come of it. If she just wanted a super sexual experience and got fucked raw, I don't see that as being particularly harmful, and could just make her a more interesting and sexually attractive person. Most men will swallow their insecurities for someone like that. We're very forgiving that way.

My research indicates that while most porn stars have it very, very tough after retiring--as pointed out in the other posts, above--some girls do have a "happy ending."

Of course, "happy ending" can be subjective: Dyanna Lauren is married to a (older) strip club owner; Jenteal seems to be making it in civilan life, still married to her pre-porn boyfriend and raising their three kids; Shane seems to be doing well (as does Bunny Luv/Celeste) as a non-performer still working in the industry. Dr. Sharon Mitchell, who runs the medical-testing shop for the industry, use to be a performer. Raylene seems to have a good post-porn business renting locations for porn company shoots.

Still, with the exception of Jenteal, "personal lives" seem to be greatly effected by having been in porn. Indeed, I remember seeing old "recruitment" interviews with Bill Marigold telling girls about to sign for her first porno, that life will never be the same again, and that no "decent" man will ever repect, or want, her once she's done porn. Pretty tough stuff, but it was meant to be--and, with the exception of hit-and-miss hook ups with rockers (examples: Tommy Lee, Axl Rose, Vince Neil), most porn girls, even while in the biz, have a difficult time finding a guy off the set.

Finally, the "sugar daddy" thing is very, very, very rare--but I hear it still happens. Racquel Darrien lives in Las Vegas and is rumored to have a sugar daddy, although in Vegas the older guy/younger woman thing is so common it's not a true sugar daddy thing. Also, Annette Haven, the top brunette pornstar of the 1970s, is suppose to have a post-porn relationship with a wealthy, Northern California man. And, most recently, newly-retired Tawny Roberts is suppose to have begun a relationship with a wealthy, non-porn biz guy, and is with him in NYC...far from the LA porn scene.

Still the "happy endings" are very rare.

Aren't there quite a few girls who go on to decent extended careers feature dancing and/or escorting?

I can fully understand why it is difficult to be actively performing and then just walk into civilian life. There will just be too many people who will recognize you, and your product will still be readily available.

Non-porn-community people are, generally, narrow-minded assholes when it comes to hypocritical "morality" issues... and I don't think this will change in our lifetimes.
But give it 5+ years after a girl stops performing onscreen, and most girls will be able to walk down the street unnoticed.

According to iafd.com quite a few end up in fatal car crashes... which to me captures the whole destructive lifestyle in the business, that makes it so fascinating.

The doom and gloom scenarios that people are exrapolating from very small samples are more an indication of the contradictory feelings that many have about the industry and sex than any provable reality. Literally thousands of young women have passed through the industry and disappeared completely from the public eye. It would be one hell of a research subject to document with any clarity what major directions they're likely to head in. I, for one, wouldn't be able to identify a run of the mill starlet on the streets, and with her using her real name, would never make the connection. High profile stars may not have the luxury of anonimity, but they can also cash in on their names for a good long time if they choose to. This whole "fucked for life" thing is more self fulfilling prophesy than anything else. Murderers don't even get life sentences these days. Why impose them on some impetuous youth?

I think the intimidation factor would be very high. Most men aren't hung like that, we can't last that long, or the breadth of experience. And even if we did finally have a shot and the girl liked us, many of us would always wonder how long it would be before the girl got bored, or missed what she used to have.

[Now I'm begining to understand why some women feel threatened by their husbands/boyfriends watching porn...]

These things poison people's minds. Just like I suspect a lot of porn stars wonder how many guys are going out with (in real life) them simply as trophy hunters, instead of truly caring about them. Whether it's true or not, it would happen enough that it would lurk in the back of your mind.

In our sexually active society, issues of sexual insecurity don't need porn to ruin a relationship. As for trophy hunting, can you say Donald Trump? Beautiful women have to deal with this in any walk of life.

It's not just the "non-porn-community" people who are "hypocritical". Many people who are in the industry, or have connections to the industry look down on female pornstars. For example, Howard Stern--who often has porn stars on his show because they are good ratings, and always tells them how "too good looking for porn" they are--has frequently said that he would NEVER fuck a porn girl "because I'd be afraid of catching something." Howard has even said this to Savanna Samson, who is a "favorite" of his, first as a Scores dancer and later as a Vivid contract girl.

Since Howard has admitted to fucking celebrity "party girls" (example: Angie Everhart) it seems two-faced to me that he would brand porn girls as unclean; when the fact is most porn girls are very health and hygiene minded, and are checked out (for infections) more than girls you/I are likely to meet in clubs.

Bottom line: the Extremely Negative Image a girl suffers from (which, in my opinion, is made worst by the "extreme" and gross-out porn acts currently in vogue) stays for years and years after they have retired. And makes transitioning into another career--or having a good post-porn personal relationship--so much more difficult. I bet no matter what else Traci Lords does in her life, when she dies the headlines will still be "Pornstar Dies."

True. And yet there have been some very interesting comments and examples in this thread so far.

We've tended to focus on how other people would consider former pornstars, like boyfriends, potential employers, new acquaintances they make, or just people passing them by at the shopping mall... But what about from those girls' own point-of-view, leaving aside what the world might think:

How does the average ex-pornstar look back on her porn years, do you think?

(Like I said, and like picman also pointed out, there hasn't been any research made on this topic and there never will be, but maybe we can come up with hypotheses...)

This begs the question of when the best time to tell the SO that she was in porn, assuming he didn't recognize her. The longer the relationship goes on, the larger the shock will be.
Then again, the circle of people you run around with tends to affect your judgement. Some groups also have less guys that want to be in a long term relationship. As jamesn would point out porn, strip clubs, and swing clubs are filled with iffy types.
Common doesn't make it less of a true sugar daddy relationship. Does he have the cash? Is it more about his money? Hey, she has a sugar daddy!

True. My advice: save lots of money--and buy real estate. It's the only "sure" investment.

i totally agree!! i guess i would continue with producing and directing, photography. and i would like to have a nice family, take my money and open a beachbar. I have my diplomas for it(in holland you need a special diploma). with andrea we just invested in his sisters' beauty salon. for now i enjoy being infront of the camera to much, with my website being my main focus, so i wont give it up for a little longer;)
even i get recognized a lot here in spain, i never really had any problems with it, and up until 3 years ago i still worked the summers in a disco, and still help out sometimes!

I think it must surely come down to what sort of person they are and the life they had before porn.

if a girl is happy well adjusted and smart she should do fine after she leaves porn.

if she had drug problems or problems with men and family problems then screwing a bunch of strange men for money is not going to make that any better in fact it shouldn't be a suprise that it will just make their life much much worse.

I wouldn't mind marrying an ex-porn star! She'd certainly cheer me up! Seriously though, is it suspicion in ulterior motives in men that they find it difficult to meet anyone or they'll automatically think a man would pigeon hole them as a certain type of woman? Personally I wouldn't as I think thats wrong and theres more to life than porn anyway. Friendship's more important at the end of the day.

It sucks that there's still a stigma attached to porn. I hope that someday this stigma will be erased. Porn stars are people just like everyone else, and they're entitled to live normal lives after their porn careers end.

I thought they all became Volvo driving soccer Moms :-)

Where do all the porn stars go
When the lights go down?
I wonder where all the porn stars go
'Cause when you need one, they are never around

I think they moved out to the suburbs
And now they're blonde, bland, middle-class Republican wives
They all have blonde, bland, middle-class Republican children
Blonde, bland, middle-class Republican lives

Where do all the porn stars go
When the lights go down?
I think I know where all the porn stars go
They all become Volvo-driving soccer moms

It is a pretty fucking interesting ? especially now that porn often requires doing ridiculous shit, like blowing eight guys or something. I would a lot of these girls come out of porn a lot worse then when they came into it..or should i say this is the truth for most off them...

If a performer wants to work, yes. Porn is about money, and to make money one must work. To get paid the most money, one must do the most extreme work. The less demand their is for a performer, the less options they have available if they want to remain in the business...

WOW, what a shame. I recall Sunset telling me about her real estate prospects during AEE. I always like Sunrise in flicks...not a lot of energy as a contract performer, but damn she was a leg tease! Grrr...

And then there are those weirdo's who have "found Christ" and they're looking to help all the other drugged-out porn girls and their so-called addicted viewers.

94.1FM WYSP Philadelphia, PA - Kidd Chris Show, Afternoon drive interview with Shelley Lubben (download)

Apparently Ms. Lubben (known as Roxy during her days) is another one of these pornstars turned hooker, druggie, etc. and she wants to "save the girls". She left the business in 1994 I think she said. Notice, Chris cuts her a little slack, but still plays it up as a big joke! Dammit, I love Philly radio.

To phrase what Derek117 eluded to earlier, "Once a pornstar, always a pornstar."

Actually being filmed in a bunch of scenes is hardly the most lucrative aspect of porn.
