Hahah I really apologise for asking this question, but I'm really unsure as to what a raincoater is, and what sort of film they would like. You have to excuse my ignorance, but, are there films made for these type of people.

Man I'm getting confused here, and I don't want to piss anyone off by saying that these films are just for wankers.... hehe

Anyone help me out??

Cheers

I also wondered about this term when I first joined this site.

This question was answered in an old thread dating back 2 years and Rutigar (old member) described it as:

"A raincoater is a movie that is purely good jerkoff material. The idea behind the name is that lonely guys in raincoats go into sleazy porno theaters and Jerkoff in the back row. They cum and they go. Usually a raincoater is a really hardcore flic, and you're right nobody's listening to any dialogue."

Squid,
Snowden is right in the quote that he found and posted, particularly about the 'sleazy porn theaters'.

And yes, there are lots of movies made with this in mind. It is usually the gonzo type, no plot, straight to the sex productions, like a lot of the Dia/Ana titles.

When plot interferes, the FF>> is used a lot.

Hahahah thanks guys!!!

So this film is for wankers then!!

We don't have porno theatres in the UK, but I'm sure there would be many a "raincoater" in attendance...

Ok then, whats the social standing then, if you admit to being a raincoater???? with disdain or praise??? It's just that it seems that if you are a raincoater then you are treated with respect. Is this a true statement??

I mean, sure I watch hardcore filth on dvd on my own and jack off, but then I have a social life as well, and get laid fairly often. Am I a raincoater??? I'm not lonely hehe

On this board I can proudly admit to being a raincoater, but I'm not sure that I would be bestowed with respect in other audiences.
I'm not sure that one is a raincoater, or that one is not a raincoater. It is more of a frame of reference at a given moment in time. That is, do you feel like watching a "wanker" movie at this time? If so, grab a raincoat title.

Squid,
Yup, it’s for wankers!

There used to be a slew of porn theaters in the Soho district of London. The movies weren’t the best, in fact you could get much harder porn by going to Germany, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, etc., but they DID have porn and porn theatres (sp), in London.

In the ‘old’ days, a raincoater would have been looked upon with disdain. He would have been a skulker and slinked into the porn theater hoping that no one would see him enter. It was perhaps the only form of release that this type of guy got.

Today, the definition is different, at least the way I understand it. Now it would simply be someone that wants the sex, only the sex, and nothing else – and in many/most cases the harder the sex the better. Fuck any plot that gets in the way of the sex! The older term of raincoater just happened to stick around and is applied more to the type of movie, rather than the person watching it.

Naw!, you’re not a raincoater if you have a social life and get laid!

I'm a RAINCOATER, no I don't wear a raincoat, and no I don't jerk off in sleazy theatres, that's what my house is for... lol.

But I watch "plot" porn, you know to get some variety, sometimes, though I mostly watch hardcore-gonzo-raincoat-pleasing porn.

Hi all,

Before the raincoater bashing coaster gets up the speed it normally does, allow me to state that I am a proud raincoater and have been one from almost the first day that I started watching porn.

Some people like watching skinny chicks walk around in skimpy outfits and go out on a date before "making love" to their partner. Nothing wrong with that. Raincoaters like to see the skinny chick get anally probed with a nice thick penis and then at the restaurant have the waiter, valet, bus boy, dish washer, guys at the next table, and a few passersby in the parking lot cum in her mouth..... before dinner. I'm paying to see fucking....I want to see fucking. I love a good story, hot sex and good scenary....that's why I got married.

Hmmm

Well if thats the case, then I watch Raincoater movies ie anal/gonzo sort of films when I'm in "wanker" mode. (which have to say is relatively often . But then as DeverDon says, I do get laid fairly regularily, so in this case I'm not .

As for porn theatres in London, shit I didn't know that...Now we just have strip shows and peep shows. Primarily quite crap, but there are a few which are worth checking out, like Sunset Strip and of course the American faithful Spearmint Rhino.

Thanks for clearing that up!! (and I don't mean my mess) ooo errr

Squid,
Raincoater movies ... ARE ... wanker movies, at least the way that the term is applied today.

Do I watch wanker movies? ... you betcha! when I'm in that mood which is on Mondays and Wednesdays ... ummm maybe that is Tuesdays and Thursdays depending what phase the moon is in!

It is a little bit sad that the porn theatres disappeared from Soho, but as you say they are gone.

Another decent Soho strip joint I thought was 'The Windmill', and there is another up-market one but I just can't remember the name of it at the moment.

DenverD are you based in the UK???

I assumed that you were from Denver being DenverDon... hahah

As for the windmill, I'm not sure if that is still going. I thought it had turned into a techno club.

I also haven't ventured into the Realms of the Raymomnd Revue Bar, but I'm sure I will in time.

I am in Denver Colorado, but I have been through London many times.

And thanks. Raymond Revue Bar was the name that I couldn't think of. A bit pricey, but not a bad show.

Aahhh I see!!! I must admit that I have never been to Colorado. I have only ever been to the East coast ie Florida and Boston (where I lived for 6 years). But I plan to make the trip over to the west coast, and maybe set up home there (for obvious reasons). The weather over here is too shit to mention!!!

Hahah the raymond revue bar is probably the most famous and oldest of the strip joints in London. But I thought it was more of a Cabaret type scenario....

Don't know what Raymond Revue Bar has turned into now, but at the time I went it would have been classified as 'strip'. Classy and on a stage, but strip.

Your probably right... It is probably more of a classy strip than a cabaret, but when you look at the adverts on the back of his mags, theres always a line of beauties dressed up as if they were in a cabaret...

I'll check it out in time!!

As for Glasto, nar, I didn't bother this year, everytime I have been in the last 3 years, it's always been pissing down, so I didn't bother. Plus it was impossible to get over the fence this year as it was so high (20').

Great place to find the ladies though!! I remember about 10 years ago when I first went there was a hippy girl walking around offering free love, but to be honest I was too scared to take her up on the offer, being a respectable 18 year old.

Oh how things change in 10 years!!!

Good statement. What is important still, I think, is that the raincoater always asks to push the enveloppe further. So I not only want her ass get probed by one nice thick penis and than cum on by passerbys, I actually want the passerbys to probe her ass too. The more of them the better.

I did not start as a raincoater, but I became a proud one, too. I am paying to see fucking. And as a customer I want the girls to perform the acts I want to see. Luckily, currently I get a fair share of willing new faces on my porn plate.

Just one more thing: In other forums, like rame, I have noticed that raincoaters are far more <cynic>/<realistic> when discussing porn. Many other adult movie fans seem to constantly try to fit their humanistic ideals with their porn consume. Many (usually also the raincoat-bashers) are driven by their wish to actually help those <fallen>/ <misled>/ <exploited> women in porn to find their way back to normal life, or at least to enjoy every bit of their work.
Raincoaters are far less sentimental. And I like that. Its like: if men would not pay for sex there would be no prostitutes. But men do pay, therefore there are. Same goes with porn. As you said: I pay for watching people fucking. And as I do not want to watch the same people constantly this means a steady influx of new faces.
I would not have said it like this when I began watching porn, but I am proud to say it now: I am glad that due to poverty and other circumstances hunderts of girls are driven into porn annually. I am glad they sell their bodies to more and more demanding porn production companies. I am glad a growing number of porn consumers ask for harder and harder stuff.
I do not actually care what those girls feel during the set or afterwards, I do care however about securing the steady influx of new flesh to be (ab)used for acts I wanna see.
In porn as in the business world I do aply the laws of demand, spply and performance. I want attractive girls to perform what I want to see. And I am willing to pay for that.
Of course sometimes I do get attached to certain starlets. End of last year with the retirement of Sylvia Saint, Laura Angel and Meridian I did think my porn universe will stop to exist. But time told that new faces popped up. Once in a while I still watch an old tape of those starlets, but generally speaking with all the new RLD/Ana/Dia/EA-crop I do not miss them. Same with Daniella Rush: I am still shocked about her accident. I really got to like her as a person. But hell, that is life. I wish her a good recovery and the very best for her future.
But for me, I need at least 5 young, fresh Czech anal sluts now to get my world gowing. I need them fast and I want them to perform dap again and do all the fisting tricks Daniella used to do. That is what I want, that is what I am paying for. I will never forget Daniellas Matador-dap (I already watch it over and over again), but I do want the new crop to take on more studs and to have them fuck their asses harder and dap them much much longer.
I wanna be a proud customer, getting what he demands. And contributing to the refinement of the product.

Druber,

I might get my raincoater pass revoked for saying this, but I'm not as into DP and DAP as most. To me it is rare that directors can do these scenes "properly". I much prefer one-on-one hardcore action or gangbangs. Double anal normally has one large cock one thinner cock or one cock that is more flaccid. A large powerful erection is very important to me so having a weak or subpar erection in the picture doesn't do much for me.

As for your comments about not caring about the stars, your intitled to your opinion. I enjoy their performances and wish them well if/when they decide it's time to move on. Pushing the envelope is alright, but.....fuck it....we could go on forever and at the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference. Good thing we live in the U.S.A. where there is never a shortage of people willing to satisfy your needs for a fee.

What Druber says is probably true of most hardcore porn viewers. Porn viewers are consumers -- of course they are paying for acts they want to see.

Although what Druber writes may sound callous and insensitive, how many porn viewers *truly* care about the performers? This is entertainment, why should he concerned about a starlets ability to pay her rent or her discomfort in making the latest double anal blockbuster?

I don't worry about Jackie Chan when he performs dangerous stunts in his Hollywood movies. I don't worry about the contestants on Fear Factor when they eat a bowl of worms for our "entertainment". Why should porn be different?

I think most hardcore raincoaters just want to get their rocks off and expect the girls to do whatever it takes to make this happen. If it takes more and more extreme acts, so be it. I think we are seeing this trend already. But, hey - so long as the acts between consenting adults, what's the issue here? It seems rather strange for other (less extreme) porn viewers to frown about it.

It appears to me that some people are drawing an artifical line -- it's OK if a girl performs hard anal sex with Rocco for 20 minutes, but not OK if she agrees to a double anal bukkake gang bang.

I think A LOT of porn is degrading and has elements of misogomy. It's always been this way. And, from what I see on here and RAME, it's "uncool" to like more sanitized porn like the stuff Vivid produces. And of course, a whole lot of people would argue Vivid porn is degrading to women as well (but they are unlikely to be found here).

Wow Druber... If this is the new definition of Raincoater, count me out. While I realize that financial stimuli may be one of the reasons that alot of women get into the industry, I absolutely do care what those girls feel during and after their scenes. I'm probably a bit too much of an optimist to be a respected porn fan, but I want them to make a living, and I want them to enjoy themselves. I don't see any reason why they can't, except for this awful humiliation they might feel largely because the public at large, while privately enjoying porn, publicly turns their nose at it. For what these performers do for us as porn fans, and the intimate and physical work they do to produce the product that we enjoy, they deserve every bit of the money they get and more. More than that they deserve a respect and acceptance that much of the public face of our society doesn't seem to give them--even if some people don't like the product.

I ... well I USED to think I was a raincoater when it comes to my taste in porn, but I do not enjoy porn that shows me a woman who I think hates what is happening to her. Sometimes I'm fooled... as we all are, but I certainly care.

Anyway, maybe I'm not a raincoater, I don't enjoy DP, I don't enjoy Gang Bangs, fisting, or double anything. I DO enjoy lots of other things: facials, anal, and most of all I enjoy one on one sex of the rougher and more dominant variety. I think that still makes me a raincoater. I realize that porn is not always sunshine and daffodills, but I don't think I am alone when I say I absolutely care about the performers--and so should the adult studio directors and producers.

Just one guy's opinion... :)

In my opinion, a raincoater is any person obsessed with porn (opposed to a casual user). I saw my 1st porn movie 37 years ago & haven't stopped since. Raincoaters probably usually have a particular obsession , mine is a need for a steady procession of new, different women in the movies I watch. I think this qualifies me as a raincoater.

My preference is gonzo, just a little tease & right to it. I prefer one-on-one, but gangbangs, facials, anal, whatever (no Vivid) are all good for me, as long as it's something the girl's into. If the girl's not into it, it does nothing for me.

In my opinion, the need to have any act that a person should crave portrayed on film for their pleasure, regardless of human costs, should not define a raincoater. If it is, I'll just stick to being called a perv.

You're BOTH raincoaters. You're just opposite ends of the same spectrum.

Me, I'm somewhere in the middle.

Part of me feels like MLyons. I definitely care about the women and greatly prefer for them to genuinely be enjoying their work (an excellent example of a woman like that is Bella Donna). But even Druber allows that he DOES care about some of the talent (for example, Daniella Rush).

But I also feel like Druber in that I really do thrive on a steady diet of fresh faces and I like to see the women continually push the envelope (not too far, though, for example I really don't ever want to see them do scat, animals, children, snuff movies, etc.). But I'm willing to bet that Druber feels the same way.

In terms of pure economics, I can readily see why so many young women take the porn plunge. Fresh out of high school, on their own, no job skills, and with bills to pay, these young women can go work at McDonald's for minimum wage or get into porn and make as much money doing one or two scenes as they would make in a whole month of full-time work at McDonald's (and many women DO enjoy their porn work).

Many women put themselves through college by doing porn on the side.

There's also a thread on this forum devoted to all of the porn stars who have crossed over to mainstream movies. Hence, doing porn hardly brands someone with a scarlet letter the way it once did (at least no where nearly as much).

The point is that it is POSSIBLE and does in fact HAPPEN that porn is a win-win situation both for the raincoater as well as the porn talent.

Many people are still laboring under the naive notion that all female porn talent are "victims." In reality, many of these so-called victims are laughing all the way to the bank.

MLyons... (and other people who allege they "care" about porn stars they do not know)

Why do you care so much about a person who you do not know and doesn't care about you? I thought we all watched porn for our *own* enjoyment, but you make it sound like *her* enjoyment is a preresquite before you have fun. Doesn't that strike you as unusual? Porn stars are doing a JOB. They are not in love with the person they are screwing - they are earning a paycheck. It is their job (in most instances) to *pretend* they crave huge cocks in every hole in their body. If they get you hard, then they did their job well, and I think that should be the end of story.

Everyday, we go through life and expect other people to do their job with any requirement that they are "happy" about it or without discomfort. Do you worry about people who choose to be coal miners? That seems like a pretty crappy job too, but many people choose to do it.

What about that sexy young girl who chooses the respectable job at McDonald's and earns minimum wage? If she smiles and pretends to love her work, do you get worried if it is insincere? I seriously doubt she likes cooking french fries in front of a hot oil vat every day. I bet she even gets burned by the oil a few times a week. It seems to me *that* girl is more deserving of all your concern -- she's working an honest job and doing the best can. Sure, she could choose a career in porn, and makes LOTS more $$$ by spreading her legs for the camera, but even though she is poor, she is determined to respect herself and only share her body with a man she loves. Do you care about this girl?

I'm not saying it is necessarily bad or wrong to "care" about porn stars, but I question anyone's ability to really "care" about a person who your sole connection with is to spank the money as she gets dominated and is subjected to anal sex in multiple uncomfortable positions with strangers on camera for the world to see.

Now IF you know a porn star personally, that is different. At that point, she is no longer just a fantasy image - but a real person. Until you make it to that level, I think any illusion of "caring" is just a way to deal with conflicted emotions.

It is callous and insensitive. Yes, my first post was sarcastic
Generally, there is no issue in acts between consenting adults. However, I believe Druber's statements do put the issue of consent on the table.
Parties are not "driven into" consenting acts. This statement celebrates coercive circumstances forcing people to do things they normally wouldn't. I find that disheartening.
I'm a liberal guy. I don't take issue with most of the hardcore/raincoater stuff out there and I'm not frowning about it I agree with most of what you said Snowman, but I take issue with some of Druber's statements, which has nothing to do with how un/extreme I am.

Thanks for your input.

Whoa! Lots of assumptions are being made here.

Firstly, I think you're reading way too much into what "caring" means in this context. Just because you don't care about a porn woman in the same way that you care about someone that you know and love personally, that doesn't necessarily mean that you can't care about them in a more detached but still meaningful way. Otherwise, why do porn fans routinely pay for round trip airline tickets and hotel rooms just for the privilege of standing in a long line to meet and get the autograph of a favorite porn star at a trade show or other industry function? If they were just pieces of meat to jack off to, then what would be the point? Why go to so much trouble and expense?

Druber is a HARDCORE MAN if ever there was one, but even he expressed concern and sympathy for the plight of Daniella Rush, a woman that he's likely never met. If her only value was meat to jack off to, then why would Druber have even bothered to express sympathy?

Just because a person is a stranger to you doesn't mean that you can't care about them. People all over the world were greatly saddened by the tragic and untimely death of Princess Diana. Millions and millions of people wept for someone that they never even met.

If Jackie Chan were seriously injured or killed doing one of his stunts for a movie, rest assured that a flood of letters from well-wishers (perfect strangers) would pour in.

Is a porn woman's enjoyment a *prerequisite* to my getting off? No, I never said that. What I *did* say is that I greatly prefer it.

If I go to a supermarket to pick up some groceries and the cashier is unfriendly and acts like she'd rather be anywhere else but where she is, I'll still accomplish my goal of taking the groceries home. But if the cashier is cheerful and creates the impression that she's happy to be there, I'll probably find the transaction more satisfactory and might even take the groceries home with a smile on my face. Some people couldn't care less what the cashier's disposition is.

If a porn woman turns me on enough, I can get off to her almost no matter what her disposition is, but the experience can be enhanced if she creates the impression that she likes what she's doing. The impression can be genuine or it can be faked, either way, it enhances the experience. And yes, some porn women *do* really get off on having all of their holes filled with giant cocks, just ask Chloe!

Same goes with me and same goes with porn. Me, too, I do enjoy watching Belladonna more than lets say Chandler, because while both attractive, Bella is genuinely enjoying herself, Chandler rather not.
BUT what I tried to express is, that if I am really sincere with myself, I do not really care. I.e. Daniella Rush: I care(ed) about her, but give me a bunch of new Czech girls and I am likely to soon forget about her.
This means what I really care about is the steady influx of fresh meat willing to perform the acts I want to see.

I think a lot of porn fans are lying to themselfs. I try not to.

I agree with this, and I think the reason some of us do "care" is that we aren't heartless. We understand that Jackie Chan is getting millions to risk his life and that there are very very small segments of adult entertainment that are coercive and walk a fine legal line. When we say we "care" I think we're hoping that the companies that we patronize are above board and that the performers are getting paid a fair wage. The acts they perform aren't a consideration.

Hey Snowman--thanks for the reply!

You make some excellent points, and I think alot of people have already responded with a lot of the things that I would have said, but here's my take on it. I don't pretend to care about these people on an intimate or personal level. As you said, I don't know them personally, or have caring friendships with them. I also would be the first to admit that I'm not the most solidly "well adjusted" raincoater out there when it comes to being able to seperate my feelings of caring about what I'm watching from my enjoyment of it. On the other hand, I would REALLY worry about myself if I didn't face at least a bit of that conflict every time I watch an adult video. While I don't have friendships with these people, I still care about their working conditions, and THEIR reactions to the work they do. As much posturing as we do about that fact that they are performing a job for a fee, they are still sharing themselves in more intimate ways than most of us are willing to do; and there's still the fact that alot of these girls, especially the young teenagers that we all so adore that flit in and out of the industry, have their own conflicting emotions about what they are doing. And, hey... shoot me--but I care about that. You can try to invalidate that by citing that it's a way of dealing with my conflicting emotions, but it's a part of who I am, so to me it's not invalid.

I absolutely don't deny the raincoater's right to enjoy any kind of porn they like (again, between consenting adults), and I'm not frowning on Druber's outlook either, or yours. Again, you state your case well. I like my fair share of the more hardcore stuff, but like others here, yes I enjoy my porn more when I BELIEVE that the performers are enjoying themselves. If they're good at pretending I can't hope to know if it's genuine or not. All I can do is hope they aren't.

Couldn't have said it better myself. :)

I bet most performers have less problems with their work than their adorers. Wise up, guys. Its a job like any other, too!
Guilt culture forced down your throat for ages makes you worried about those teenagers. Its the same motiv of
, <misled>, <fallen> women again. Again and again!

Why cant you accept that they sold their body for money and you pay to enjoy them. Basta.

I want my supply of fresh meat like I wanna eat fresh bread evry morning. I care about the quality of grain, as I care for the quality of ass. But I do not feel guilty about.

Thanks a lot for your down to earth post, Snowman. It feels good to read that.
