I have just started purchasing DVD's to replace my VHS collection of adult movies, but I am disturbed by some of the editing/censoring I am seeing. First was the well-documented case of Up N Coming in which the anal finale was chopped off. The reason given was a bogus master tape provided by an unscrupulous distributor (and quality control by the DVD author failed to catch it).
And now I purchased one of my all-time favorite movies, Let's Get it On with Amber Lynn, an Alex DeRenzy masterpiece, and an entire scene is missing! The scene I'm referring to is the Jamie Gillis/Shanna McCullough/Mauvais DeNoir scene near the end. What happened? Is this another case of someone trying to pull a fast one, or is it blatant incompetence?
This has got to stop!!!

In the case of UP N' COMING, the DVD version was apparently mastered from the same source as the original laserdisc, which did edit the sodomy scene between John Holmes and Marilyn Chambers (I have not seen this flick, but it is my understanding that the anal sex soundtrack runs over the credits). This was an editorial decision because this film was one of the very first hardcore movies ever pressed for Pioneer lasers (their original INSATIABLE was the chopped up, cable version).
Apparently the use of this truncated version was merely a mistake by the DVD producers. However, in the case of LET'S GET IT ON..., there is indeed the entire removal of the scene you discussed, which is not mentioned on the packaging (which still credits Shanna as being in the movie). The reason for this is apparently the brief spanking which occurs during the sex. I have the original tape release, and it seems that VCA used the after-market edit to master the DVD.
I agree that such editing is deceptive and should be corrected.
Don't even get me started on Vivid Video...

Let's not get anyone started on Vivid. I goit a friend of mine started on Babylon 5 and it was a wonderful thing. Starting someone on Vivid is like introducing your friend to heroin. It's just not something you do to people.

I'll just say one thing about Vivid (it takes the ultimate in restraint -- oops!, if I say "restraint" it'll probably get edited out!), Bad Wives, their big AVN award-winner, etc. runs around 140 minutes on VHS. Guess how long it is on DVD? About 75 lousy minutes -- half the picture! More than just Dyanna Lauren sucks here!
Anyhoo, watch out for VCA editing the classics! Both "Every Woman Has a Fantasy" 1 and 2 are edited in DVD form, with entire scenes and portions of scenes cut!
It's really getting ridiculous. I guess they're all just counting on us not to notice or care when stuff is cut. What they don't realize is that a lot of their sales come from folks like us who want to upgrade their favorite titles, and who remember what's in them! IMHO, if they keep it up and not notify us on the cover or descriptive material that these are "edited versions," it's gonna cost them sales and consumer trust!
