I'm sick and tired of old porn footage being marketted like it was yesterday. Come on! That's pretty darn pitiful if the porn industry feels the need to market old footage that's more than ten years old. There's enough newer stuff out there than intermixing old footage with newer footage just cause there's not enough of some particular type of footage to fill up the time needed for a film. Consumers aren't that stupid. If you don't have enough footage than sale it as a minifilm or single...but don't stuff old footage from an old film into a newer film to sale the public short. It's been done one too many times. No one wants to watch footage that's been out there for ten years that you pretend is new! Maybe the industry is just growing old in itself and has lost its interest. Perhaps the public is just growing tired of porn in general. Enough is enough. There's only so much smut that one can corrode ones mind with anyhow.

Did you just buy a DVD and find out it was a compilation and not freshly filmed?

I don't think this is a general problem with the whole adult industry, maybe an uninformed viewing choice though.

Forums like this have handy reviews and other information which help fans pick what they want to view and avoid what they don't.

There is never enough smut

IF companies would take the time to re-master old footage, inform you that the DVD is a compilation and ID the scenes you're getting, I think there are many of us who would kill to get our hands on our favorite scenes from early in our porn lives.

Problem is, when we go back to our old VHS tapes, if we even still have them, the production quality is almost unwatchable. For those of us who are old enough, lots of great stuff we saw on film in theatres never made it to VHS, much less DVD, unless it was a "classic" (and many of those have been released as inferior hack-jobs).

So, yeah, enough deceptive crap already.

Deceptive crap in porn? I am shocked...really shocked to hear that deception is practiced in the industry. Just shocked ... really shocked.

I agree with WRoppots that it is very unscrupulous to not let the viewer know that a DVD is a compilation. Smash has been doing this recently.

I generally only get compilations if they have a special theme that I want to watch. The generic ones (example: "Chicks That Like To Fuck!") are not worth much to me.

In response to BigBobXXX:

There is some older material that has never been released on DVD that I would like to have. Some of this material will probably never be available on DVD for various reasons, even though it was released on VHS in the 1990s.

I sometimes find that when older material becomes available on DVD, it is not as good as I remember. I think this is because I have become spoiled by the technical quality of recent porn. Also, back when I originally watched this older stuff, I would fast forward through a lot of it because I was only renting it for a scene or two. In addition, I was more easily impressed because I had not seen as much porn.

Sorry if I have derailed this thread. I am in a rambling mood.

Back to the thread topic, deceptive compilations suck!

Walter, I couldn't agree more.

I had an old VHS copy of "Suzy Randall's Stud Hunters" and through the years it was lost. When I finally found it again on DVD, it looked worse than I remember the VHS tape being!

Part of the problem with this particular one is they just grabbed the first copy of the film they could get their hands on for the transfer. Had they gone back to the master, I'm sure it would look much better on DVD. So much for product integrity.

Caballero has been issuing some nice clean re-mastered stuff in the past few months.

DVD Movies Direct (an "adult dvd marketplace" seller) lists about 300 classic titles from Caballero, and they're all around $5 to $6, so I've been slowly building up a nice collection.

Lot of the old VHS masters are lost or are in some company's old archives files that were either purchased by another company or purchased as assets of an bankruptcy - and no one took the time to examine and re-distribute it on to DVD and market it again.

It really is a shame that these videos are still hidden from the marketplace.

I would really love to see them brought back with the extra footage of cut scenes and out takes as extra bonus features. I think it would sell myself.

They don't call 'em con-pilations fer nuttin.

The industry has been passing off repackaged stuff as new for as long as I can remember (20+ years). Some companies, such as Leisure Time (aka Leisure Slime) have made their owners very wealthy repackaging. If a significant portion of consumers didn't buy the crap for something inexpensive to aid their compulsive jacking off, the crap-producing companies wouldn't put out the crap.

I do find that you have to be very careful with compilations.

I've seen compilations where the box cover shows a current pornstar, and her scene may even be a recent one, but the rest of the DVD contains old, badly filmed scenes of a bunch of unknowns.

Compilations can be a bit of a gamble to purchase, but just occasionally you can pick up some good scenes among all the rubbish, I recently was lucky when a compilation DVD had one of my favorite scenes with Alicia Monet that I used to have on VHS.

I am a sucker for nice packaging and the words 4 hours and price of $9.99 They list all the hot action shots on the front and back with all the "hotest" dirtiest acts but when you view it; alot times the scene is either abbreviated or just not there. Give the names of the past stars that you might have seen but did not buy the video and you think you can now get it for nothing plus alot more too! It all a CON!

I don't buy these any more! It saves me alot of disappointment and frustration.

I despise comps and low-budget productions, because... 10 of those is worth less to me than one quality production from my favorite director at a quality studio. If I'm going to pay for my porn, I'm not going to pay for crap.
