I realize this is a frequently bemoaned issue in porn, but this post is more about the history of this particular loathsome practice than a thread to complain some more about it. Basically--when did porn producers realize cutting to the dude's face in porn marketed to straight men was a bad idea? I know you see it every once in a while in modern porn, especially more "couples-oriented" stuff but obviously a lot less. If we STILL complain about it, why weren't more people writing letters to porn companies telling them not to do it? How did it become SO entrenched an industry practice? I've heard it suggested that the cuts to the guy's cumface were not only to warn viewers of an imminent popshot and to provide a convenient edit-point, but also because it was thought that male viewers would "identify" with the male performer by seeing him cum. THis seems insane to me. I haven't done a proper survey of porn from the 70s to present day (though I've done my fair share of informal research of course) but to me it seems like this started falling out of fashion in the early 2000s, which seems incredibly late in the game. Of course, now we just crossfade to the guy jerking it for six minutes, but I guess the "birdie face" is an improvement over witnessing the contorted grimace of vinegar strokes. Another personal observation--is it possible this a bigger problem in movies with plots where the camerawork is supposed to be more traditiionally "cinematic"? It seemed like artsier movies would do shit like cut to a tiger and a smoke machine or, in a rare bout of common sense, a female voyeur masturbating, as edit points for cumshots. It does seem that even "artsier" stuff nowadays seems more willing to compromise film grammar for arousal factor. Even a countdown timer (female voiceover?) would be better (I enjoy girls "narrating" their scenes anyway), but the simplest thing to me always seemed to just have the girl saying "you wanna cum for me baby" or "are you ready to cum on my " etc. and then cross-fade straight to the pop-shot. If you're going to go gonzo you might as well break the fourth wall all the way down. Also, I never minded seeing it looped a couple times (ECG does this--but what are some others), maybe from multiple angles, before the girl does some cleanup or postcum head/etc. You could come on, say, the third cumshot loop (if this is established as a convention) and then enjoy some afterglow as you watch her clean up. Just not in black and white for no reason. Anyway, just thought of this again I'm going through the Barely Legal series and it's the one thing that ruins a lot of the scenes for me. It ruins things to always have to fast-forward to the end and see if I'm going to have a bad time...lol. I wish there were a program that could automatically edit this shit out of older movies. Also: nowadays, besides POV porn or blurring the guy's face, what sites/series are good not doing this? [Link] |

Would you today consider the act of going to a porn theater and having a group wank session surrounded by other masturbating men as something a straight male would do? ________________________________________________ Please ID these girls from PlayboyTV's Foursome show Edited by - hoochimama on 11/6/2016 10:25:16 AM |

| mrstrummy Member 14 Posts 5/16 | Also,This is an interesting point I didn't think about. I mean, I think there was just more homosociality on top of some homosexual tendencies that allowed for. Some people probably went merely out of necessity. And there were (and are of course) those jerk-off booths, which are somewhat less homoerotic. Also, it seems like even after VHS and DVD were widely accessible and more easily marketed, and even after hte internet, stuff you would think was intendend for straight guys had questionable edits. I mean, is Hustler Barely Legal marketed towards a tiny bisexual population who enjoys b/g porn exclusively? Yet it has cutting-to-cumface AND cutting-to-guy-from-post-cum-head (again, the graver sin in my book). I don't think these were marketed toward couples--and I noticed for couples stuff the more "sensible" directors do show the guy but not ONLY the guy during the cumshot (where else am I going to see Tiffany Thompson videos other than couples...lol...if only she'd done some POV stuff). And of course seeing a couple really getting into it can be hot in a way that I think is more voyeur-sexual than homoerotic. Although everyone's a little gay and all that--even those guys who watch only lesbian porn with no toys. But it does bum me out that I have to pre-screen vintage porn for this kind of thing, because I do like look of a lot of things like big hair and leg warmers and unitards...but that was also the age of cutting to dude's faces, so.... I don't know if the girls in those days looked more "womanly" because the average tit size was bigger, (it seems to me--at least there were fewere super-popular smaller-chested girls) because they dress like people's moms dress now, look like someone from an old moviet, etc.... |
