A lot of popular porn these days has lengthy close-ups of penetration and of pussy and (female) ass, at least in straight porn anyway. Not that I'm complaining. My question is, when did lengthy closeups become more popular? Earlier porn, say from the 70s or early 80s, certainly has closeups but not to the extent we see today? If my memory serves? How far back in years could I go in order to find well-made (sharp picture) porn with lengthy closeups?

And I thought the porn from the 70s and 80s had way too many closeups.
Retro porn had a lot of closeups to the genital area because when porn was decriminalized at the time, producers put extra focus on those areas that were previously not allowed. People wanted it explicit. It also allowed them to switch between takes and different angles. Due to working under hot lights and a strenuous activity, the faces and bodies would be dripping with sweat. Keeping those parts out of the frame, was more appealing.

My customers dont like that angle, and I don't like that angle. I hate jerking off and ready to cum, when suddenly the angle switches to a closeup of the dude's face. You never know when it is going to happen and you can't relax.

I don't know why they do it now, but a possible reason is that producers are younger now, and they tend to be enamored by the site of their own penises (for the self produced ones). If they are not the actors in the video, I just chalk it up to them seeing it in other porn, and thinking having closeups is good.

I think it is because of gonzo shooting style. The cameraman is right there in the heart the scene and in the action, talking with the performers and commenting while the scene is happening. If cameraman job requires him to be constantly 2ft from the action, everything is gonna be closeup, automatically.
