you see hot hot hot porn stars, and they are the cause of lots of erections, probably the cause of thousands of erections with their hot moves, sucking and fucking and swallowing, the works.
but when do they make their exit and their final goodbye?
Is it because directors no longer need them?
Is it because directors feel that they have been used too much in films?
In other words, no including becoming ill, with some life threatning illness, or getting and accident where they get disfigured or lose a limp or something, and ofcourse not dying or committing suicide, what usually tips them off that maybe that last film was it and that's that.
Obviously after a period of time, people are craving for Fresh Meat and they get tired of seeing the same people over and over

When the producer's/director's stop calling, they know their time is over.
Usually age is a big determining factor.
Also boyfriend's , significant others , husbands , pregnancy can also shorten one's career in the adult business.

In my experiences, it seems that women have more dramatic 'life-stages' than men do. There's one around 20 yrs, then 25, then 30, etc. etc. I imagine a lot of the adult stars of today reach one of these quiet personal epiphanies and move on for a littany of reasons, never sticking around long enough to become the eventual rare megastar.

There was a time when I imagine many pornstars left the biz a bit earlier than they wanted to because companies/directors stopped calling. Now I'd guess they can hang around as long as they like. With so many companies out there and the MILF market being so big. Does any pornstar who really wants to work have problems finding work if they really wanted to?

...and once the leave is taken, is it tough to find something else to do that affords the excitement, energizes the ego, and feeds the $lu$h fund in the manner with which one has become accu$tomed?
Or is leaving the industry akin to retiring and living off the interest from a well-balanced portfolio.
Where do old porn stars go when they....well....get old?

The same thing could be said about stripping. I think more often than not many girls stop doing porn for studios and start or continue dancing and play off their porn days fame. They also start up websites where they sell custom made videos and their old stuff and various things. I can think of several porn girls who haven't done a movie in years who still do porn for their sites. Plus they get other girls to do stuff for them to sell.
Wendy Whoppers hasn't done a movie in the last 10-15 years and still has a website she runs and obviously makes money off of. I'm pretty sure there are lots of "retired" pornstars who do the same.

From what I've seen over the years, most porn girls leave for one/more of the following reasons.
The phone stops ringing, because they've done "everything" (anal, gangbangs, IR, etc.)several times over and directors/companies are more interested in working with new girls.
Or, they had a fat contract with a porn company, but now they don't. So they decide not to work for less, and change careers. This could include directing porn.
Or, they find religion, and decide that porn is not an acceptable lifestyle.
Or, they figure out how to make a living off of their personal website and/or feature dancing.
Or, they are the one-in-a-million Gold Ring Winner: they find a boyfriend/husband/girlfriend who really loves them, and they retire out of respect for their relationship.

Excluding newbies that quit after just a few scenes, it seems like the biggest reason is that other new girls come around and they stop getting as much work as they did. There's a lot of speculation in that answer, but I think it's true for a lot of stars.
On the other hand, I think girls that manage their career can do well and keep earning significant income from porn for a number of years.
