I must have a different understanding of the phrase "jumping the sharks". To me, "jumping the sharks" means doing something outrageous in order to try and regain attention or popularity. The phrase is derived from the Happy Days episode where Fonzie jumps the sharks. It didn't really fit with the TV show, but the ratings needed a boost so the writers made Fonzie jump the sharks.
In this sense, if a performer starts performing some activity that they have no interest in doing in order to boost a waning career, then they are "jumping the sharks".
I won't mention any performers that have jumped the sharks in this way since it seems a bit mean to me. Besides, I can only suspect that they are jumping the sharks because I am not 100% certain of their motivations.

Jump the shark actually means something that they did (or in most of these cases, it'll probably mean stopped doing) that MADE their career go downhill.
Reference from: Happy Days when Fonzie's character jumped over a shark on water skis. There's a website called www.jumptheshark.com about defining moments in TV shows that kind of mark when most people noticed the show was going downhill.

YOu know, I remember that episode differently. I thought Fonzie was jumping over a shark tank on his motorcycle on an episode of "You Wanted to See It."
It seems hard to apply to porn girls - but I guess a drastic change in appearance from an innocent look to harsh makeup or like our very own Tricia notes, "a horrid boob job". Some might say after an apperance on the defunct pissmops website (but I can't go along with that one!)
OT: I just noticed last night after seeing an episode that Murphy Brown had a drastic set change in the later seasons (probably the last). I never knew that. Regarding Happy Days, the new Arnolds was terrible - but the burning down of the old one was pretty mindblowing.

Well as I understand it, the purer meaning does not refer to the act itself as cause of downfall. Rather the act is defined as a sort of last ditch effort to revive a show that seems to be tipping towards the downhill direction. Happy Days was not garnering the rating it once had and the producers decided to do something different/outrageous to revive the show.
The term however has come to mean what you stated. It is in this sense that I mean it as well.
I find it hard to agree on the Taylor St. Claire one. Basically, she started her career working only with girls, except for the few titles that she worked with her then boyfriend (who couldn't get it up on camera, hence Taylor only working with girls).
Once they broke up, she went wild shooting all kinds of scenes with guys until she pretty much retired. Since then she has shot a few girl/girl scenes. But I really look at her as being retired rather than having jumped the shark.
On the other hand, I would add Sammie Rhodes to my jump the shark list when she stopped doing guys and, at the same time, lost about 20 pounds that didn't need to be lost (a good chunk of it from her previously perfect breasts).
I'm hoping Teagan going to DP isn't "Jumping the Shark". She's one of my atf's and hope to see her doing some nasty acts again. Her last effort in Jack's was weak. Agreed with the Sammie Rhodes case also..
As was mentioned earlier, the term "jump the shark" originally meant that was the point in time when a television series went downhill and needed to be mercifully cancelled. The only way I see this applying to porn is if studios started watering down their product because of pressure from the likes of the Department of Justice.

Use your head man, there's a variety of reasons. Becoming a lesbian out of the blue RARELY, if ever, appears to be one of them.
Definitely agree with Sammmie Rhodes, but she's sure fun to watch when she gets into these HIGHLY aggresive fits in her current G/G scenes.
The first time I was on the site, I was impressed with the tracking of shark jumping. Just the sheer amount of shows. So never let anybody give you shit about your interests and hobbies.
Jenna said she quit B/G for her boyfriend, which is probably why most quit. I don't know if she made more money during her JKP contract years, but most of us hardcore porn addicts in here didn't like it as much.

Hopefully F2 will lead a Travolta like resurgence (only for him to jump the shark again later).
