The "retirement" of a pornstar is often greeted on the message board with with a large measure of surprise (today, I'm thinking of Sasha Knox). Although I get disappointment (I've certainly felt it myself), I've never gotten the surprise.
It seems to me that fucking on camera would be a difficult thing to handle emotionally -- something few people are suited for (even if they don't realize it when they start performing) and something a person could easily burn out on. I think it requires a unique personality to stick around as a performer for any length of time.

Yeah, I agree with you here. When a new girl comes along that I like, I just hope she gets in one or two scenes that are the kind I enjoy (POV, Oral) and after that the rest is "gravy". I realize that the turnover in this business is huge so I savor every good scene with a starlet because I know it could be her last.
Also, I think their reasons for leaving are not always "emotional" as they are practical -- a new source of income, a boyfriend, getting married, new goals in life, etc.
How much you wanna bet that the highly touted Sasha Grey - Miss I-live-and-breathe-porn-and-am-only-18 - will be gone within six months? I guarantee something will come along to make her change her mind and she will leave. She is only 18 after all.
Same thing happened with Selena Silver. She came on all strong and pro-porno, etc. Then poof -- she was gone.
You know what I'm not even that disappointed when girls quit.
Usually they have left behind plenty of stuff to enjoy.

You never know who's gonna stick around and who isn't. Last I heard, Tiffany Mynx was still around. I'm disappointed when a girl I like quits before putting out very many scenes. For me, Brianna Blaze is the one I was most disappointed about.
Frankly, that's my feeling on just about any mainstream media. Most of 'em aren't gonna have much good to say about porn. They probably just wanna do the "holier than thou" thing. I am usually happy for the girls that leave after compiling a decent body of work and I just hope that they have set themselves up with a nice little nest egg - and are not just under the thumb of some suitcase pimp or Kevin Federline.
I think porn is not only emotionally draining but physically challenging for girls. I mean, think about the girls who get their asses pounded four or five times a week and throat fucked etc etc. We’ve all noticed some girl getting skinnier because of the proposed “anal porn diet.”
I mean burn out has got to be a big issue. Girls now are doing more scenes in six months then major porn stars did in their entire career from the 1980-90s. So yeah burn out is an issue.
I think the key is balancing your career out and knowing when to slow down when you have to or like everything else you won’t last.
Then again some girls just try porn for fun and get sucked in by the money or other things.
And for tritone, you really shouldn’t “quote” someone if they never said it or have proof to back it up. That’s just bad ethics.

I'm usually happy when pornstars leave the biz. My simple thought is that most women that enter porn enter for the wrong reasons or they are not mentally prepared to deal with the stresses that can occur.
Nothing kills me more than seeing a fresh faced cutie in one video, and then seeing another scene months later where she looks like she hasn't slept in days and looks stoned out of her mind.
the high turnover is good in that you're always getting new faces to see, and new asses to see, but for me it's also tricky- if i'm gonna get into a girl i want to make sure she'll be around a while. i don't want to get into a girl, only to go search out a few more of her scenes and find out there aren't any. so i usually take not of a new girl, but don't start paying too much attention or watching her until she has 10-20 in already.
