In the 70s & 80s it was all about them corny background music.
Classics from the golden era like Taboo 1& 2 (among others); they all had it to some extend.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's something from the past,
....BUT, When & Why was it not done all of a sudden? Who were the pioneer directors that said, enough = enough.
Does somebody know something about this transition from corny background music to no background audio AT ALL?
Just curious, that's all.

BTW, pick up lines (silverstone) still has (or had) corny background music in all of their productions; but I guess them movies were mostly produced by one of them hard up old school porn directors, no?

I believe that would be the director whose penny finally dropped and realised that the sound of sex was far better than the sound of music.

My guess:
The early porn was made by escapees/moonlighters from the mainstream movie/film world, where musical background soundtrack was standard procedure for everything, so they naturally carried it over into porno films. But the later porn was made by newbies with no Hollywood experience, using the newly-invented camcorders, figuring everything out on-the-fly and inventing their own styles. To the newbies, starting fresh, background music was unnecessary hassle/expense/luxury, so it got dropped.

Gonzo (or gonzo budgets) did away with everything associated with feature porn-background music, costumes, scripts, sets, etc.

I first noticed the stoppage in Paul Thomas's features from the '90s. Maybe he, like many of us, prefers the natural sounds of sex.
