ANSWER: When the company you've got it with doesn't put the instock titles by!

Would you believe it, I've had my Wish List at FiveStar waiting around for around two weeks now. I've waited for longer than the 8 working days that they said the rest of the titles would take to come back into stock, now I've just revisited my Wish List to see if the rest have come in only to find, now wait for it...they've actually SOLD one of my Wish List titles that they had in stock up until yesterday!!!

Now I ask you, what's the use in having a Wish List if the company won't put the instock titles by for you until the rest of the titles in your list come back in? Why is it that I feel like a dog chasing its tail waiting for titles to come in whilst the instock titles in my list are being sold off quicker than the other titles can come in?! And why is it that I'm feeling kinda annoyed?

A wish list isn't a contact of purchase. I've had stuff in my Amazon wish list for over a year, I hope they aren't holding a copy just for me.

The vast majority of wish list users never buy the items on their lists. It would be foolish to set aside copies for every item on every customer's wishlist hoping that they might by it someday.

Thing is, at the slow rate they get restocked on titles (I've been told it can be up to 8 weeks!) I don't fancy ordering anything from abroad unless I know it's all in stock, especially with all the exchange rates changing constantly. I want an order to go through all in one go, not for some of it to be in limbo until some far future date, 'cause I want to know that I have everything I need in my account for future purchases elsewhere. In other words, I don't want to become overdrawn because I get confused with all the transactions or because I forget that I've got a part of an old order pending. And like I said, the constantly changing exchange rates make things all the more confusing.

Five Star has an option for New Arrival Subscriptions.
It can be found here.
Maybe that tool could help you to know when something comes in, so you could know when to place your order.

But I didn't figure out how to work it. Spent a couple minutes looking around. Didn't see how to add to it. If you can't find it, maybe you can email them to find out how.
If you do figure it out, let us know how it works.

Hi Mojo.

Drew is right. Imagine if we committed every single item in every single customer's wishlist to the customer. Nothing in our warehouse would ever ship and we would be out of business within days. Or imagine if someone wanted to sabotage us and added every item we carry to a wish list. The same thing would happen, nothing in our warehouse would ever ship and we would be out of business within days.

Please read my response at the Five Star DVD forum.

Thank you.

Mike, maybe you can shed some light on this.

I don't know if it was ever official policy, but I remember Five Star customers saying that they weren't charged for extra shipping costs on backordered items. So if someone placed an order for 8 items and 1 wasn't in stock that 1 item would ship out at no extra cost when it became available. Is this the way that backorders work?

I see your point now...Hmm. Trouble with me is that I'm waaay too honest. I'm not the type to fuck people about. All my wants are genuine wants, and to be completely honest, I still haven't worked out exactly how the Wish List system operates yet, or even why one should make one if it hasn't got anything to do with letting companies know what you want and to put it by, just like you'd do in a shop. That's the mistaken belief I was under. But anyway, I'll just order the 4 you have in stock before they too are sold.

Hi Drew.

That is correct. If a customer orders several items and a majority of the items are in stock, we will ship ahead these items. The charge for this shipment will be the total of the merchandise plus the one-time shipping fee. The remaining shipment to fill the backordered items will only result in a charge for the remaining merchandise and no additional shipping charge .

Changing the subject somewhat, I noticed that you got a new shipment in today and one of the disks is one that I've been after. As a result I sent you an E-mail making a request to include it with my order before it ships. Could you check it out and let me know if you can include it?

Thanks.

Update: Sorry, but I've yet another update to my order. I've been doing some searching just now on your great site and seeing that some of the original disks in my Wish List were outa stock I've found yet ANOTHER two titles to take their place in my order! That's it though, 'cause I'm broke! Also, could you please make an update to my coupons, 'cause I do believe that I'm now entitled to a $12 buck reduction (Woo Hoo!!! )
