But, as I make my daily trek through the web's porn sites, I'm still struck by the sheer number of women who have chosen not only to have sex with someone they just met, but to have a permanent, commercially available record made of their activities. From BRCC to ECG to GDP to NVG, for every girl who uses the site as a springboard or waystation to at least a temporary career in porn, there seems to be at least one, and maybe more, who are never seen again. Not to mention the one-and-doners at other sites. Perhaps the biggest source of wonderment for me is Dancing Bear. Two or three times a month, this sites gets together several tens of women. It seems like the girls who actually get fucked are usually performers with a few scenes already under their belts or newbies whose porn career is beginning. But a large percentage of the women in each video will yank the stripper's crank and/or suck the dick of at least one of the strippers, and quite a few will take a facial. The number boggles the mind. When you add in the number of women who'll do only a scene or two for the other South Florida porn companies before vanishing, sometimes it seems like that part of the U.S. is like Japan, where it seems that every young woman does a porn video as a rite of passage. Can there be that many women who either don't care about having their appearances noted by family, friends, future employers, and classmates; or who think that they can do a porn video and believe that no one will ever know? All it takes is one spiteful rival for a guy's attention, a disgruntled ex, or someone who just wants to share some dirt about someone he went to high school with. Obviously, the answer is yes. Sometimes, the clothes come off, the tattoos are revealed, and I think she's probably either a stripper or an escort, or she's probably already been around the block a few hundred times. (I'm old-fashioned about tattoos and what they connote.) And some of the women probably couldn't give blowjobs away for free. But especially when I see the pretty ones whose bodies are unadorned by ink, I have to scratch my big head with one hand while rubbing the little one with the other. South Florida, Arizona, and the West Coast obviously have a near endless supply of young women willing to do porn. At the same time I'm trying to wrap my head around that fact, I can't help but wonder whether such productions would be possible in my home state, in particular Dallas and Houston, where many strip clubs are already little more than brothels. While some parts of the media still tries to bash women for expressing their sexuality it's very clear that people are very interested in it and don't judge it as harshly. And really...isn't it kinda silly to get all bent out of shape over this stuff? Most people have sex and everyone has a body. One only need some of the posts on various threads here to know that once a porn star always a porn star. I think that a combination of what everyone has said here is true. That is, money and the thrill of the experience are the main motivators for performers. Money is a factor due to the times we are in but as always been a lure. Experience, like Rod has stated, has to be a high factor for many of these performers also, as that, I would think, is the main explanation so many of them don't plan ahead for their careers, ie. how to market themselves, whom to work for, etc. I also agree that the fear of being caught is not as big a stigma as it once was. True, many careers could/would be ruined still today, what with the corporate attitudes out there, but that mindset is evolving too. It'll take decades before it diminishes mostly but many performers are not working for a corporate company presently which would fire them if they found out (yes, I'm sure there are exceptions). So with that, performers don't fear the risk of loss. True, they could have that loss later in life by not finding a job within a field of their liking but that one, may not happen, and two, most performers probably aren't taking that into consideration. Most people, and maybe it's a fault, live life in the present mostly. On the escort/pornstar aspect, I've seen escorts who are better looking than top grade pornstars and some who aren't even remotely in their class. I do agree that in porn, the talent is cuter, but that's because mainly it's on film and that's what producers choose to film. I recognize that handheld video cameras and the decentralized distribution that the Internet has made possible have greatly expanded the opportunities for women who, in the past, might not have been able or willing to travel to Los Angeles to enter porn.
But, as I make my daily trek through the web's porn sites, I'm still struck by the sheer number of women who have chosen not only to have sex with someone they just met, but to have a permanent, commercially available record made of their activities. From BRCC to ECG to GDP to NVG, for every girl who uses the site as a springboard or waystation to at least a temporary career in porn, there seems to be at least one, and maybe more, who are never seen again. Not to mention the one-and-doners at other sites.
Perhaps the biggest source of wonderment for me is Dancing Bear. Two or three times a month, this sites gets together several tens of women. Many of the role models for women these days are sexy women. While some parts of the media still tries to bash women for expressing their sexuality it's very clear that people are very interested in it and don't judge it as harshly.
And really...isn't it kinda silly to get all bent out of shape over this stuff? Most people have sex and everyone has a body. The fact that so many people still get riled up over the thought of a person showing their body or having sex is jut ridiculous from a logical standpoint. But we've been programmed to think it's this dirty disgusting thing and happily go along with it. As time passes and the programming we've been fed continues to be ignored little by little we'll see even more of this type of behavior as time goes on. I think the main reason there are so many girls doing porn is first to make money and second for the interest. In a similar way it is why prostitution can be found the world over and is so common in Third world nations where there are few opportunities to make money. And you make a good point, it is not the actual sex that is a problem, it is the sex recorded on tape and then gets distributed and is permanently on file, easily accessible from any home, soon anywhere in the world. A spiteful person can find this material years into the future and wreak havoc on someone's personal life. Most of these girls just do not think that far down the line when they will get married or will be raising children. I'm bumping this thread to mention something I didn't include in the earlier rant/observation.
Over the last 15 years or so, I've spent time with more than 50 friends-for-an-hour. Actually, some were friends-for-a-half-hour, but I digress.
There are or were a couple of handjob-only places in Houston where I never failed to think to myself, "Oh my goodness, who are YOU?" when I was greeted at the door. Aside from those encounters, I can count on one hand the number of women who I think most of us would agree would be considered hot. And I do a fair amount of research before renting a friend, because my opportunities to do so are fairly limited. Porn performers have to look sufficiently attractive/cute/sexy that some guy will pay them money and turn on his camera. He's not going to do that unless he thinks other guys will find her attractive/interesting enough to spend money to see her.
For escorts, there is no "gatekeeper". They just have to have a good enough game to convince you they can get you off. For most guys, that's not a difficult challenge.

Escorts range in quality just like porn performers. You may be more selective in porn because the cost of the good ones isn't that much more than the bad ones. You can buy a Tori Black dvd for about the same price as a dvd with a lower quality performer. Tori's dvd will sell more copies and therefore make more money. There are quality escorts, they just cost more than the Houston HJ variety. If you want to know where to find them, ask Charlie. He can also tell you how much they cost. I disagree, you likely don't have a mean bone in your body but there are vicious people out there who take pleasure in destroying people if they can find a way. Just look at the American media that spends countless hours trying to destroy candidates running for office.
I worked at a Fortune 500 company and the IT department found that people all over were surfing porn on company computers during work time. Imagine if someone found out that someone working there had done porn, it would spread all over. People are malicious and take pleasure in causing others harm. Let me assure you that is a global myth regarding pornstars. Like any other star, model or t.v artiste what you see on the screen is not always what you get when you're lucky to take them home.

That's only partially true though. One only need some of the posts on various threads here to know that once a porn star always a porn star. Examples would be:
The Judy Star fans who feel that someone should contact her family to find out if she's actually dead or not.
The guy who just happend to follow his favorite star to the local pancake house and approached her table while she's sitting there with her father. Whether this one was actually true or not, who knows, but there have been other stories here about people with no tact or class approaching stars while they are out with the family.

I'd wager that any of the multitude of porn performers that I've fapped to is, even with the minimal makeup deemed essential by most women to appear in public, or perhaps even with no makeup at all, would easily rank in my Top 10 Hot Escorts I've Seen list. (Also, it's not like escorts have makeup artists available.) Makeup also can't hide sagging tits, bulging tummies and cellulite, attributes all too common in the rent-a-friend industry. I completely disagree. Perfect example would be Jenna Jameson. She was featured on a "E" Channel special set during the Cannes Film Festival several years ago. The camera went into her bathroom and filmed her taking a shower, had they not told you it was her, you'd have never known it. She then showed her tackle box sized makeup case and went to work. She then showed the finished product and she looked completely different. Never underestimate the power of makeup and hair/makeup artists. One only needs to look at the National Enquirer's features on celebs without makeup to know the before and after shots are two way different things. Give some hair and makeup people an hour to work on me and I'm sure I'd look like George Clooney also.

Nice thread, with lots of interesting opinions. I think that a combination of what everyone has said here is true. That is, money and the thrill of the experience are the main motivators for performers. Money is a factor due to the times we are in but as always been a lure. Experience, like Rod has stated, has to be a high factor for many of these performers also, as that, I would think, is the main explanation so many of them don't plan ahead for their careers, ie. how to market themselves, whom to work for, etc.
I also agree that the fear of being caught is not as big a stigma as it once was. True, many careers could/would be ruined still today, what with the corporate attitudes out there, but that mindset is evolving too. It'll take decades before it diminishes mostly but many performers are not working for a corporate company presently which would fire them if they found out (yes, I'm sure there are exceptions). So with that, performers don't fear the risk of loss. True, they could have that loss later in life by not finding a job within a field of their liking but that one, may not happen, and two, most performers probably aren't taking that into consideration. Most people, and maybe it's a fault, live life in the present mostly.
On the escort/pornstar aspect, I've seen escorts who are better looking than top grade pornstars and some who aren't even remotely in their class. I do agree that in porn, the talent is cuter, but that's because mainly it's on film and that's what producers choose to film. In the grand scheme of things, it's a numbers game-I'm sure there are far more escorts than pornstars out there, not counting the ones that cross between the two. So with that, by numbers alone, you're going to have hotter talent in porn probably.
Just my opinions but I think most posters have nailed things on the head.

I think it's a convergence of several factors: to begin with, the social stigma attached to working in heterosexual porn, while still present, has relaxed considerably over the last few decades. Secondly, the compensation is much better than it used to be. Lastly, sexual mores in general have changed significantly--many young women today are comfortably sexually active, whether in or out of the porn industry. The result is that a lot of the women have done a personal cost/benefit analysis, and concluded that the pros outweigh the cons.
The standard argument that most women in the sex industry are psychologically "damaged" by abuse/broken homes/etc. is speculative at best. There really isn't any conclusive evidence that women working in the sex industry are more likely to have experienced traumatic or stressful upbringings than have women in the general population. This argument panders to the radical feminist notion that female porn performers are either too stupid or too emotionally unstable to recognize their own "exploitation" within the industry. This is both inaccurate, and highly offensive to those women who have made an informed and rational decision to work in the sex industry.
