There are good features, and good gonzo, but nothing amazing. I get what you're saying. There's nothing you can sink your teeth into. I'm quite disenfranchised too, but I don't know how to express it succintly.

The problem is when the sex becomes harder, the opinion is that the context and storyline becomes irrelevant. Hence the really 'nasty' sex almost never has storyline associated with it. Partly this is due to the companies that focus on storylines believing their target audience prefers 'softer' sex. Whatever that means. However, this isn't a hard and fast rule. Take Jim Powers' recent series DEMENTIA and SODOM. They mix nastier sex with decent storylines. Fashionistas and TALES FROM THE CRACK are modern industry benchmarks in this department.

Private is one company that does this all the time, but they just have weak scripts as a general rule and disinterested actors. And therein lies your problem. Most porn stars can't act, and are not interested in acting, ditto most pornographers. The emphasis is the sex, and to hire a scriptwriter, or to write one's own? Too much effort and/or cost.

Who knows, a new generation of porn directors and starlets may reverse this trend. I doubt that'll happen anytime soon though. Narrative porn had a strong run through the Seventies and Eighties. Until porn directors start recognising the presence of an audience that likes narrative and harder sex, and seeing that the effort is worthwhile, and not being lazy and always shooting barebones gonzo, then we'll keep getting the unimaginative porn that we do.

The biggest problems that I see however is the length of time that must be spent watching a good feature porno. You're looking at around 2.5-3 hours to get through the whole thing. Mainstream movies cut their time down with implied (couple kissing, pan to the fireplace & fade out to the next morning) or a minute or two of covered rolling around in bed. It gets the point across without the gynecological exam. OTOH, people buy porn for the sex & expect to see good sex. 6-10 sex scenes of 6-10 min each adds a minimum of an hour to the movie.

For us, our viewing times are mainly after the kids go to bed & are asleep. That puts the starting time around midnight. If we've got to get up in the morning to go to work we really don't want to have to stay up until 3am to watch a movie (& then if the movie did it's job, head to bed for a sex session ourselves). One of our favorites is Space Nuts (we both love reading science fiction & watching the classic movies which that spoofs wonderfully) but I don't think that we've ever made it all the way through in one sitting, it's just too long. The same with Fashionista's , Pirates , or any of the other big budget films of the past few years.

Perhaps that is why we enjoy the "Golden Age" stuff so much. They seemed to be able to cram the background story/plot into relatively short pieces & yet still not leave you wondering what was going on. Someone needs to come up with a way to do the same these days but with the more intense sex rather than the relatively plain style back then.

Now, with the formulaic exploits of gonzo finally forcing me to look elsewhere, I'm hopeful a new era may be at hand.
Kylie Ireland may be pushing the envelope, into content more suited for the hardcore audience, and yet even if her "Twisted as Fuck", ends up adding more twist than fuck, theres another female talent entering the stage, who might also drive these archaic abominations of sex and theactrics, toward a more flagrant fuck flick.
Prior to JM Productions recent troubles, I often found their tongue in cheek scenarios amusing, but Hillary Scott's appearances, actually made them memorable.
Having won me over with her adorable charactarizations in half baked skits as "Too scared to Sleep" Naughty Little Nymphos 16, and Don't Tell Mommy #7 among others, for possibly the first time ever, Hillary has garnered my interest, in what she may bring, and what roles she may play, in her upcoming feature releases.

Even Big bad Max Hardcore started out doing good plot line stuff but he got tired.

Take the Bait and Teen Fuck Holes series - the earlier titles in these series had vague plots but now they have gone straight to plundering the girls straightaway.
