No this is not me having forgotten to do the washing up again, it's an observation about recent porn that I've watched.

Many moons ago, when I only had access to features from the likes of Vivid and Wicked on Satellite over here in Blighty, it used to really irritate me that any number of scenes used to follow the predictable formula of missionary, doggie and then cum shot. Occasionally, you saw cowgirl or reverse-cowgirl and even less often, anal sex.

Thankfully, with the relaxing of the archaic laws on explicit material, I am now able to enjoy the joys of gonzo, where the sexual performance is paramount.

Thankfully, it is therefore now commonplace to see acts such as reverse-cowgirl anal and double penetration, which previously would have been extremely rare, even in Buttman films.

This trend in more 'extreme' sex however, seems to raise a couple of issues for the future.

Firstly, if anals and DPs are becoming almost a prerequisite for gonzo films, then where do Directors go next? Double anals, triple penetration? But is this erotic? Or is it more for the sake of saying that the sex is something new or more extreme?

Personally, I worry about a recent trend amongst some Directors, towards 'rough' sex such as choking, face slapping, gagging, hard ass slapping, ass to mouth and the rest.

As a male, I cringe when I see such things, and while I'm fairly certain that the acts are consensual, it borders on exploitation, humiliation and disrespect for the participants and women in general.

Secondly, instead of merely showing anal sex for the sake of it, Directors will now have to be a little more imaginative. This could include showing sex in different positions, which I believe are currently underused, such as standing doggie or the spoon position.

Too often, I get the impression that Directors think anal or DP without thinking about the acretesses attributes and what position might accentuate those attributes.

So an actress such as Amee Donavan, with a great rack and lovely smile should certainly be seen in reverse-cowgirl and / or spoon where her assets are best on display. Whereas an actress such as jasmine Lynn, with a slender figure and tiny tits would benefit more from standing doggie or spoon, where we can appreciate those long slender legs.

Which brings me full circle in asking why we don't see many spoons in porn? Well filmed from a wide angle, it shows the woman's full figure as well as penetration.

Any comments on the above would be appreciated.

alot of the directors right now have absolutely no idea what to shoot, so they try to "shock" the audience and make that their contribution to the industry, these people lack creativity. There has never been such a lack of creativity than now in the business, the copiers are being copied over and over. Directors now think they have to "gag" chicks into submission in order to make their mark on the industry.

I'll admit sometimes my movies push the envelope, but its always about the women and NOT the acts that are being done to them.

I'm all for showing the actresses to good effect. Considering that much of porn watching is fetishistic in nature, I'm not sure you'll get much consensus on what that means, though.

Jules is dead-on as evidenced by the many Directors ripping off his style completely.

I agree, creativity in this biz has pretty much bottomed out.

Good topic!

From my own humble observation.....I agree with Hardware that Gonzo porn - today is very "fetishistic in nature". So whenever a fetish is identified in the marketplace...some of us gonzo directors rush to capitalize on the newest and hottest fetish that is deemed to be selling or perceived to be doing well at that time. Sometimes that is good and sometimes that is bad for the consumer...but like Jules stated...now creativity suffers because the director either (1) attempts to copy what has already been proven to be successful or (2)its a bunch of antics meant to entertain the consumer (and cover the fetish) without any regard to eroticism or passion.

Fortunately there is this lovely medium called the Internet which is changing porn at the speed of light. Now consumers can make better purchasing decisions...based on what they like..not whats forced down their throat...or whats only shown on satellite. As the internet broadens, I think we will begin to see more and more porn that reflects what consumers really want to see...in my opinion that's a good thing....and I hope this trend continues.

Lack of creativity or a career choice?? The over abundance of fine adult films,(yeah right), is at an all time high and will continue to grow. If somebody chooses to become an erotic film director as a career choice they have to make an awful lot of films to make good money at it. Sometimes along the way vision and art may be sacrificed to pay the mortgage. Well I just felt like throwing in my seven cents.

Gof,

Are these the sort of things you want to see in a film? These are screenshots from Platinum X's Euro Girls Never Say No #3:

This film has quite a bit of spooning and standing positions, and not too much slapping. I think these positions work well, because the cameraman is forced to back away and give a lot of long shots, rather than the boring close-ups.

Another movie that has a lot of spooning stuff is Michael Stefano's Ultimate Asses #2, especially the last scene with Manuel Ferrara and Sandra Romain. If you are looking for something that is intense and creative, this one scene will not disappoint you.

This sounds like good old Corporate America at work. I've had this same request from Marketing guys wherever I have worked - just copy our competitors, whatever they produce, the customers seem to like it, so let's do the same! And then, highly educated, creative product development people scurry around like lemmings, spending all their resources copying the other guy, instead of coming up with new - albeit risky - stuff.

The funny thing is, customers are not fooled, they know when they are seeing/using/buying a poor imitation of the original. Sometimes they care, sometimes they don't, it depends if the product does the job or not. Porn seems to be suffering from the same malaise as a good part of the US economy.

It cannot harm to copy/immitate the good stuff - like Jules Jordan - but the original will always be better. I am glad, however, due to JJ's popularity, we get more ass-worshipping - and anal of course - today. Another good thing was all this companies immitating Ana/Dias Gangbang Girl/Gangbang Audition.

As far as <how much more extreme can porn get?> this in itself is an old and not very immaginative discussion. It seems anal and dp is a prerequisite for gonzo these days, tomorrow it might be DAP/DPP and cream pies. What is more important, IMO, as Renee pointed out nicely, is intensity paired with immagination.
If I will get an missionary pussy, RC anal, CG DP and than RCG DAP on bed or couch with every girl in 2005, I will be as bored as I was about the predictable formula of missionary pussy, doggie pussy and then cum shot in the early 90-ties.
I think directors with an immagination will always be more sucessful - provided they have the same quality girls.

Besides: Why should consensual 'rough sex' border exploitation, as Gof claims? Dont get this at all...

Yeah, I was just going to add that porn isn't the only industry suffering from this type of behavior. It doesn't matter what it is, movies, television, music, as soon as a certain thing is deemed "successful", the rest of their counterparts scramble to devise a formula and mass produce it.
What they don't realize is that it takes originality, a love for what you do (be a FAN FIRST) and countless other intangibles to connect in a genuine way with a massive amount of consumers. Buyers know the real from the fake and manufactured. We can spot a company trying to take us for a ride and/or just make a fast buck off of a popular trend and who has actually put their HEART into what they're doing. All you can really do is keep a sharp eye out for the originators and not fall prey to the imitators, I suppose. I don't believe there's any question as to which category Jules Jordan falls.
