For a more concrete idea, you'd need to know someone who works for one of the big distributors However, DVD unit sales are only one piece of the puzzle...you also have to factor in stuff like VOD, Cable and Broadcast rights, foreign rights sales, and even website memberships generated by the same content. Therefore company A can sell less DVD copies of an equally budgeted movie than company B, yet still end up making more money from it. My guess for best seller would be Private if we're talking the world market as opposed to just the US. |

Something else to consider: If studio a sells 5000 pieces at 6 bucks, but studio b sold 2700 pieces at 13 bucks ... who made more money? Studio b ... and not only because of price, but also because their is the cost of duplication, sleves, etc. Plus their are tons of ways you can expand your brand aside from DVD, VOD, Cable, Websites, Mags, Etc. BTW, i am sure this is the never ending million dollar porno question! But it is always a fun one to guess on. My vote (counting domestically only) would be the Evil Empire. Based on getting the most amount of money per unit and amount of untis sold. Plus they do it without degrading their brand and always holding an excellent price line. As far as just units ... Red Light. xoxo, |

Vivid does not seem to sell alot of DVDs that I know of but has a huge market in pay for view stuff! |

Personally, i value my dvd collection, but most of my friends don't attach any value to pornography. In fact they probably feel a little bit ashamed....as if they should be getting the 'real thing'. So i think many guys have only a passing interest in porn ....as opposed to most of us here (who make an effort to track down something better than the norm). That would explain Vivid compilations selling well. As far as dvd units, I'd be surprised if Redlight didn't outsell EvilAngel simply because of much cheaper prices. Surely only fans would spend the extra $10 on EA. Most people probably don't get past the boxcover. |
