She's been mentioned, but I have to second Bobbi Starr - don't know about her academic credentials or anything, but in every interview I've seen she exudes intelligence as much as she does sex appeal.

It is not.
Back on topic, I second the poster who said that Kylie Ireland and Eli Cross are bright. Just look at their blogs, which are works of art.
I would also say Aiden Starr, who is a very impressive conversationalist. (She also studied neuroscience and computer science, neither of which are fields for cerebral lightweights.)
Amber Rayne is working towards a graduate degree, IIRC. (She can also do this deliciously evil b-movie bad guy laugh ; I heard it after she won a tag team match.)
Chanta-Rose is also bright and deep. And, if I heard right, she is only just starting college.
Lorelei Lee is bright. She won an academic scholarship to go to college. She is also a poet/spoken word artist.
Adrianna Nicole worked in silicon valley before she entered the industry.
Madison Young is the curator of the Femina Potens gallery, and she is also a spoken word artist.
Ariel X is/was a small business owner.
Harmony Rose has a reputation for saving money, which is a rather good indication of being bright.
Melissa Lauren and Sandra Romain are also cerebrally impressive.

^ I am not surprised at all. Lorelei is a very deep girl who is talented in a number of ways.
Last year or the year before, she toured with a performing arts (spoken word or poetry, IIRC) festival.
If you read her blogs, you see that she is very much a thinking person. That heightens her appeal.

I had the pleasure of attending a poetry reading at Moe's Books in Berkeley, CA, where Lorelei was one of three featured female poets. She was absolutely lovely, as I expected, and her poetry, though very modern, was exceptional. A little beyond my own pedestrian tastes but full of exciting and vivid imagery. There were one or two line references to "Annette" and to being a sex worker but that was almost more in passing than anything else. She came across as both intelligent and passionate. I don't read much if any modern poetry but she intrigued me enough that if there was another gathering, I'd go.

i was going to ask this question actually. i will ask it in a different way later, but asia carrera & nina hartley & sharon mitchell come across as amongst the smartest to me (for women). i think ron jeremy, david aaron clark, and ed powers are the smartest or at least the most intellectual. david aaron clark for sure, if he decided to add a bit more plot and a little less sex he'd have some nice cross-over films...he is quite talented and smart.
come think of it, mika tan strikes me as someone who is sly as a fox, sort of like rosie perez in the straight world, hides behind image, sex, beauty etc. but when given the space to cut loose can be very impressive.

I know from talking w/ Gia Jordan that she is pretty smart. Also Sasha Grey and Aurora Snow are highly intelligent.

Yes but lets do the math.
Ed Powers looks like, well Ed Powers + Ed Powers has gotten laid more times then damn near anyone that has ever posted on this forum and usually by gorgeous looking women = I don't see him winning a Nobel Prize anytime in the future but you can not call him dumb.

hey Clam Digger,
i did meet him at the AVN 2005. no one at his booth so we had the opportunity to chat for 15-20 minutes. he's funny and a smart man. he seemed to be humble although you hear every now and again about him ripping off someone. however, my interaction with him was positive & i was impressed. i still have my ed powers productions signed hat (the picture i took with him was blown up by a crackpot photo developer in WLA).
ron jeremy is someone i bumped into but never had the chance to speak with during my LA years. seems that we had the same taste in music & i would see him at concerts. he has a masters in educatiion and was on his way to becoming a teacher before porn came a-calling. you should watch "ron jeremy porn star" which is a very cool film.
btw, had a chance to talk with Max Hardcore at the same conference and he is what he is, but he was nice enough to chat with me for a second. even corresponded with him about obtaining a copy of some of his old stuff from the early 1990s.

I actually switched my degree plan and went in a complete other direction (I am a terribly indecisive person I admit). I received a BFA in theater arts and dance and had plans to take my minor (in art history) and pursue that at another level. Unfortunately (well then again perhaps not), I couldnt quite see myself doing much with it and the theater degree was, in my opinion, a bit useless. I actually changed my studies within the last year and a half to working towards a BS in Animal science with a focus in Equine Studies. Currently I have my own training barn where I break in horses (off the track, yearlings etc) and give lessons in English (hunter/jumper) and basic Western riding. On top of this I'm back to competing with my new beastie lol.
haha and yes Ive perfected my evil man laugh over the years ;)
and to answer the question if having a college degree indicates intelligence, I really think its relative to the individual. There are book smarts and street smarts and sometimes they coexist within the individual and other times its one or the other. I've seen brilliant people still put a fork in the microwave LOL

"2. Those that are naive in the ways of the world, but are book smart. "
Someone mentioned that Asia Carrerra was in Mensa. Well I passed the test to be in Mensa also, but I am too cheap to pay the $35 a year, because it does nothing for me except allow me the "priviledge" of saying I am a Mensa Member, wow, lucky me!
Asia is a nice girl, and a book smart girl, but when her husband (sadly) passed away, she asked for everyone to send her money because she didn't know how she was going to exist without help. Many people jumped to her aid financially, and Bud Lee ( her ex-husband) came to her aid emotionally and handled everything for her.
She just fell apart and expected everyone to take care of her, which they did.
Shortly there after she recieved a big pay off from her husband's life insurance. Enough to take care of her and her two kids for the rest of her life. Fans that sent her money, were not paid back. People that supported her, were not thanked
And when her life was all put back together, she moved on, without the gratitude she should have shown those that helped her.
Therefore, my point is made. Just because you are really "smart" doesn't mean you have a brain in your head.
As proved by Asia's example, and me being a Mensa Candidate, lol.
xoxo,

I think we must have different notions of being an intellectual, a masters in education, while nothing to sniff at, hardly makes anyone an intellectual. I don't think a degree per se makes you an intellectual, I've met many a dense, illiterate and incurious graduate student or professor.

Didn't Jeremy's mother work for the CIA? Smart and intellectual are not necessarily the same. A lot of intellectuals spend a lot of time thinking about stuff but do not care to dirty their hands with doing the scientific work to back up their theories. Smart people do both.

Well then, by that logic, all of the so called "bright" (because they've taken a few CC classes) females listed on this site should be eliminated. The point is, Jeremy comes from a full line of advanced degree achievers, thus the intelligence and intellect level is much higher.

Intelligent relatives do not guarantee that someone will have a greater intellect than anyone else. Plenty of geniuses come from average families, and plenty of genius parents produce average children.
I don't doubt that Ron Jeremy is a smart guy, but the idea that his "line" proves anything is nonsense.

Based on your above arguement, all this proves is that they can read some instructions. Hell, my 11 year old niece was able to follow a website building program and now has a very nice family webpage up and running.

I would agree and there are exceptions to everything, but a person who piles up degrees on the average shows me something, if nothing else the ability to "close." If they take that academic talent and turn it into real world success then more power to them! On the flip side there are plenty of very smart people who read voraciously are great with numbers & experts at business who never finish college (i think we're seeing less people in society that are able to do much with only a high school degree....).
That being said, Jeremy, Sharon Mitchell, and Nina Hartley are all very smart in both ways & able to communicate about the Industry in ways mainstream folk understand and don't immediately shut down. BTW, John Stagliano is an UCLA alum, i think he nearly finished before jumping in to porn...i've chuckled at the thought of him giving back to his alma mater...the film department maybe just for kicks. Imagine the "John Stagliano sound stage, or studio or even on -campus theater. Why not!!!???

oh yeah, i forgot....david aaron clark is very smart. it shows in his films, plot-lines, not-so-much dialogue....but hey...its porn right? i'd love to see him do a sexually oriented mainstream film using Adult Stars & mainstream stars.....kinda like when Fashionistas ran in Vegas!

Doing it professionally, building websites for clients, or running a successful paysite with content of their own creation, is a little different from using something like Frontpage to build a quick family website.

If it was so easy then everyone would do it themselves, rather than paying expensive professional web designers. I know pretty large companies that have tried to create a website in-house, only to give up and go elsewhere when the college graduates in their IT department fail miserably at delivering what's required.
I'm not saying that creating a website is proof of high intelligence, but doing a professional job of it isn't a trivial task that anyone can accomplish.

I see no way of accurately judging someone's intelligence, especially from the kind of information available online about porn performers.

really? can we see it? i mean if it's as good as you say it must put a lot of others to shame.
i can drive a car, does this mean i can replace lewis hamilton on the grid for the melbourn grand prix in a few weeks time? your analogy is flawed. graduating through levels of ability requires intelligence as well as skill, hardwork etc. the brighter you are the further you can go.

Yes really! And no! I'm not going to give an 11 year old's web address out on a porn chat site. My analogy is not flawed, I said the same thing as you above when I mentioned Ron Jeremy and his family as being bright as they all had advanced degrees. I was called out on it by others saying that a lineage nor a family's history of advanced degrees has nothing to do with intelligence. Said person then says that because a few girls maintain their own sites that it equals them being geniuses. (paraphrasing, but you get the jist.) I was just pointing out that do it yourself web sites are easily achievable where as it takes a little something on the ball to achieve an advanced degree.

Of course it has something to do with intelligence. But when trying to determine the intelligence of an individual, their family's achievements are irrelevant. Stating that Ron Jeremy's "intelligence and intellect level is much higher" than other people with a similar education, purely because of his family, just doesn't make any sense.
My brother's doctorate doesn't make me any smarter than if I was an only child, it doesn't even mean that I'm not a complete dunce.
No, I didn't say that at all. There's a difference between paraphrasing and misrepresenting.
What if the advanced degree is in website development?

Ron's first mission is to be a clown, but it's his rightful confidence in his intelligence that allows him to do so effortlessly.
And don't forget his off-the-cuff spiel to Kitten Natividad in "Bodacious Ta-Tas" about conception. He would have definitely gotten an A for oral presentation in biology class. And he didn't even go down on her!

And good for her. The first thing she does in the morning after getting out of bed is turn on the Discovery Channel.

I think part of the problem here is that, as in a formal debate, you need to define your terms; there are subtle (and not so subtle) differences between intelligent, intellectual, clever, cunning, wise, educated, sharp, shrewd, astute, quick, witty and plain ol' smart.
I'm sure I could dredge up a few more if I cracked a thesaurus, but I'm too apathetic to bother.
The point being, I know many people in the industry who could be described aptly by one or more of these terms, but they are each very distinct.
