It is true that Jenna Jameson is the most well known female pornstar in the US and to a certain extend in the world. A lot of people mistakenly assume she is the most famous pornstar of all time. I think Ron Jeremy is was more famous than her in the US and across the globe. Most minority (blacks, latinos and others) porn fans in the US don't know Jenna Jameson but everybody knows Ron Jeremy. I see where you are going. Popular normally refers to how well liked you are however in everyday language it can be used for how well known you are. I guess I will change the title then.
Ok, cool - who is more famous? I'd say it's damn close, but after the Oprah show, Jenna might win out. Honestly though, I think anyone who knows who one of them is, knows who the other one is. They seem to go hand-in-hand.
That is the reason why I never understood why they never paired them in a scene. Maybe they did a scene that I'm not aware of. Christy Canyon and Seka were very BIG in the 80s and they all worked with Ron. Ron was only in his early 40s when Jenna came around. He wasn't that far past his prime then. Ron was sure to win if for no other reason than longevity. Ron did far more movies than Jenna ever did. I'm always surprised by how often Jenna Jameson's name is brought up when discussing who is the most well known pornstar. I've always thought that Jenna was the most opportunistic or at least luckiest porn star because she was able to parlay an appearance on Howard Stern's movie into a media blitz. It greatly increased her name within and in some extent outside the porn world. She was a very attractive young woman but I wouldn't endow her with more qualities than many of her comtemporaries, who were just as, if not better looking but never appeared on Sterns movie. I don't believe she would have ever been as popular if it were not for that Stern appearance.
I don't understand why everybody says Jenna Jameson owes it all to Howard Stern? He promoted plenty of girls on that show who amounted to NOTHING. By the way both Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson have done the Simpsons and Family Guy. I can't think of any other pornstar that could have gone that far. Not even Stormy Daniels.
I'm gonna assume that they a) have excellent agents, and b) have a unrelenting drive toward mainstream recognition.

Show the average person on the street a photo of jenna and a Photo of Ron....almost none will know who jenna is..... about 5-10% will recognize ron I rest my case.

Depends who you ask. If you ask Jenna, she'd say herself. Then again, Jenna thinks she's more well known than Jesus.
I've played 20 questions before and used both of them as characters. A room full of people had no idea who either of them were and they all thought I was some kind of pervert.

As an younger man in the UK getting into porn before I got internet access, I have to say neither, to me the most most famous was Jill Kelly, It was only later Jenna and Ron became well known to me
I wasn't refering to her appearing on his radio show but appearing in his movie. I agree that there have been plenty of pornstars that have done his radio show and don't have much to show for it. Jenna appeared in Private Parts in 97 when she was 23. She was already a star but that movie appearance and some very very good PR helped to propel her career above most other stars. I still remember her doing some small interviews on ET in large part because of that movie. I may be wrong but I don't think she would have done an ET interview if not for Private Parts.
You are absolutely right. Jenna looks like a typical blond. Most guys would be able to spot "The Hedgehog." Even the young teen generation would able to pick him out due to his appearances on reality TV shows.

Probably Ron Jeremy. More recognisable. Even people who don't watch any porn, would probably look at him and recall that he's "that fat, hairy porno guy". Jenna looks superficially like a lot of people.
Now that Jenna Jameson is going to record an album she is going to be the most well known pornstar of all time, male or female. Does anybody know what kind of music she is going to do?
last month on leno during his jaywalkin skit they covered the heads of all sorts of famous people and leaved the part of the eyes open. People on the street were getting asked about the trustworthiness of those peeps by only looking at their eyes. One of them was ron jeremy. From the 12 people they asked, everyone knew who ron is. Ron is going strong since the 70s jenna only starting from the 90s. Ron appeared/s everywhere and globally in the media( radio, television, movies etc. jenna almost nowhere (except one time for oprah). Ron just has more to say about the industry and about life in general, I guess. And he likes the attention more than jenna, thus he's way more recognizable 'round the globe.
I will go with Ron Jeremy as I have seen him on my main stream television (he had a great cameo on the David Chapelle Show). Jenna Jameson never had as many mainstream roles...
I dont know about that.....from what Ive understand only women and girly men or "metrosexuals" or whatever, care to go to that tmz web-site. And considering both groups arent exactly the majority of hetrosexual pornmovie viewers, makes it fair to say that its a bad argument. Besides, tmz is a typical american thing...dont think many non-americans know about that "web-site"....
