I still do. For collection only, as I'm well aware the better quality is through VOD. But something nice on the shelf is what I like about my collection (of 300+ titles).
I do mostly collect certain series or studios/directors, and the odd showcase for certain stars.
And I'm still looking for a first edition of Jules Jordan's "Lex the Impaler 1" DVD (the one with April Flowers on the cover, and with Sophie Evans, Miko Lee and Darla Crane) -> see my pinned tweet:
I do the same as well but with 3000+ titles , a few years ago I put on this board a picture depicting a part of my collection roughly 2/3 . I own that title , it's a first edition it has a hard cover not those of paper of today , though it's not the edition you're looking for , this one is with the logo of the local distributor Blue Movie with a black sleeve instead of a red one.
I haven't bought physical media porn for years. I don't perceive value for money in them compared to internet subscriptions when it's only so often on a title that I like the whole female cast.

I think I might still have it in box in our storage unit. What are you willing to pay for it?

Anyone have this title on DVD? And willing to sell it DM what you would want for it.
I definitely buy the DVD if I know that a favorite actress will have any behind the scenes clips on the DVD. Also if my favorite actress has the box cover. The problem is that there's usually no verification if any actress has a BTS on a DVD, so you have to try and find reviews here or just take a gamble and hope the DVD has some BTS.
I used to buy DVDs on a regular basis. But I've stopped and haven't bought any in about a year or so. I stream stuff now. The downsides of DVDs prompted me stopping. I used to buy DVDs from adultdvd...whatever the name is but even though they have great prices it became less so because of rising shipping rates. Also the physcial space DVDs take up begins to be a problem after you hit a certain point. Searching for a particular scene can be a pain unless you have some sort of system and easy access set up.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly...I only actually watched about 30% of the DVDs I own/owned. I usually buy a DVD for certain girls and more often than not I never watched most of the other girls on the DVD. And even with the girls I bought the DVD for there have been many times I didn't think much of the scene the girl I bought the DVD for appeared in. I may have been blown away by the scene in a JULES JORDAN movie a particular girl appears in but am totally let down by the DEVILS FILM the same girl did. So I ended up with tons of DVDs I felt so-so about. Then there's also the fact that the scenes become dated. Not because I think the scenes are old per se but because most girls just become better performers as time goes on. As the girl moves from more vanilla to edgier porn or changes her appearance for the better, my desire to watch her older stuff goes away. Every so often I go thtrough and throw out lots of older DVD for various reasons. I don't plan to go back to buying them again. Any movie I just feel I need to have I'll just buy the stream.

I still buy DVDs for privacy and because I enjoy collecting. Online stuff leaves too many trails and the temptation to use the wrong desktop or laptop to look at the wrong thing at the wrong time.
I buy all of the Vinegar Syndrome and Distribpix/Command Cinema classic porn blu-rays. I almost never purchase dvds these days, as the quality is too low.

^ Ditto. But while I prefer bluray but if it is only available on DVD I'll get it. Vinegar Syndrome's Peekarama series has too many gems in great condition for me to pass up.

This, pretty much. A lot of Vinegar Syndrome's stuff, some Severin. I was looking for some old silent films recently and stumbled across oldies.com, which has a pretty broad, bargain-bin style inventory -including some "mature" stuff. Ended up buying Cult Epics' 1930s stag film compilation and Pleasure So Deep, a pretty good Europorn joint. I will probably continue buying odd things like that every now and again, or else some personally sentimental flicks like Deep Inside Joanna Angel if I were to come across them.

Since this pandemic began I've been buying movies digitally through streaming only. Also that the site where I regularly purchased DVD's from has had price inflation, it's drastically a rip off.

I collect DVDs of some older favorite pornstars, as a lot of other guys do. I also like the look of the disks themselves, kind of like collecting baseball cards. I prefer to collect DVDs that were produced up to about 2005 or so. Up to then, it seems the DVD version of a scene outclassed the best web version. After that, it seemed the best web version outclassed the DVD version. If a pornstar has been in the business for many years, I tend to collect only her pre-2006 works.
That said, I started the mammoth task of collecting the DVDs of Kelly Divine, even though she is 2007+. But now that I have viewed some DVDs of hers, the plan has been canceled due to the low quality.
If you want all of the BTS stuff, you would ideally check reviews for each DVD first. Many DVDs do not have BTS. And many DVDs do not have reviews. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One way to carry on the DVD tradition is to buy a 4K scene (under 8 GB) and put it on a blank data DVD. Then label the DVD with the DVD title that the scene may be associated with. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You do not always have to have a site subscription to get a 4K scene available at a studio site. The site data18.com offers 4K scenes from various studios.

I get your point, but older DVDs are actually often of a higher quality than the original web scenes (around 2005 and earlier).
I think all DVDs can be practical, as you own them and can watch when you like and don't worry about availability.
I like to collect them the way boys used to collect baseball cards. Put them in an album to leaf through for pretty artwork!
But obviously just pulling up a VOD can be faster, more "practical."
VOD/membership sites can't compete with DVD menus basic or advanced and chapter select. There's a site dedicated to showing Hollywood movie DVD menus. I've spent hours on there. It's been recommend that studios release DVD first then digital a few months later but I haven't seen any studio use that method.
"Practical" isn't limited to when you can watch them. Practical can refer to the physical space they occupy. The hard drives my porn is stored on occupy a hell of a less volume than the equivalent of physical DVDs so I don't think you "get" his point.
DVD production is finite and distribution varies depending on your location so yes, you do have to worry about availability, especially as studios/copyright holders come and go.
^ That may be true, but on the other hand, how often did you encounter the situation that you wanted a scene and the site/that studio wasn't there anymore, so there's no practical way to get the scene. But on DVD, there's plenty of old stuff out there where the studios have long since disappeared.
On the web you might find such scenes on VOD sites like Bang.com, Hotmovies etc., but only if these scenes have ever been sublicensed to them.
I made no such statement that this was the case, nor did I imply it. If you are suggesting that I said web-based content is infinitely available merely because it's on the internet, you're barking up the wrong tree.
Refuting kronas77's claim was done in isolation. Not everything must be discussed in a zero-sum game.
I still buy DVDs in general and started doing the streaming service from Vixen and Adulttime

Hi. Just noticed your reply. When I meant availability, I meant that once you have a DVD, you do not have to worry about the availability of its content, the way you might with a streaming service.
Sure but that is specific to streaming and streaming isn't exactly the sole means of accessing internet based content. With downloadable content, I don't think the DVD argument of availability is particularly compelling. I still have my downloads from Zero Tolerance on Demand from about 10 years ago as one example (I don't have an active subscription) and I don't have to worry about the availability of that content.
I still buy physical DVD's but they do take up a lot of space. Constantly buy off AdultDVDMarketplace , but subscribe to a rental site & a streaming site as well.
I started collecting DVDs at the end of last year. I like the way they look on my shelf but I wish I had started earlier. A big part of it for me is the nostalgia and a lot of the scenes I remember watching back when I first got into porn...well those DVDs are either unavailable or sky fucking high. Right now my goal is get somewhere between 50 to 100 and then stop. I think that's all the shelf space I have at my current pad.
I still buy physical media. I only go for ~ 1 or 2 DVDs per month, and it has increasingly tended to be older stuff that's either hard to find or only available in incomplete form on VOD, although I do end up with a handful of new movies every year.
I do still buy DVDs, it sure is a lot nicer to have a dvd then a digital file. Then most scenes from the late 90s and early 2000s are of such low quality when you find then on streaming sites that it is better on DVD. Mainly my collection consists of Swedish titles and titles with Tawny Roberts. But I do also buy titles from Jill Kelly Productions, Wicked Pictures, VCA, Vivid..... Most of my US titles I do buy from Adultdvdmarketplace and from various sellers I have contact with. In my home Sweden i do buy from private collections.
hey all! I inherited a huge collection of DVDs and am trying to sell the whole lot (over 2,000). Having a hard time finding a place to sell them. There are several sites where I can list one at a time but I don't have the time for that. Anyone have any suggestions? Also have several VHS. Thanks- seawolf
There is various sites. AdultDVDMarketPlace is good IF you only wanna sell to US costumers, their international shipping price is ridiculously high. Then there is AdultStuffOnly which is kinda like Ebay. I am willing to buy some. I have been collecting early to mid 2000s porn DVDs especially the Black porn.

Couldn't find the right place to ask this, so will ask it here: I've been looking for some DVDs with photosets, and I've seen some of these photos on cover jackets of these DVDs but when I looked at the additional info/features of these DVDs on AdultEmpire, it doesn't list Photo Gallery as a feature.
For example, movies like Gangland 26 or Deep Throat This 30 have actual photos (not screencaps) of the various scenes on the front and back cover, but the DVD itself doesn't list photo gallery as a feature. So anyone know where can one find these photos?
Unless the photo gallery is exclusive to the DVD I would assume the company's website would have it available for members.
Even if you want to take your own snapshots of the photos from your DVD, wouldn't the largest size be 720 x 480, 854 x 480 or 640 x 480?
If shot in HD the original photos should be larger

thanks for the answer. the two titles I listed in my previous comment are from DevilsFilm and PeterNorth and neither of these sites have the photos or even the scenes on their sites. and yes, you're right, even if shot in HD, you probably wouldn't see them in that quality on DVD, but it's moreso just for having the pics since I can't find them anywhere online.
