I love Sasha Grey. I never saw her on the Tyra show so I dunno what was disappointing about her appearance. I know I'm not very know at all in the industry but I would nominate myself. I have always wanted to change what mainstream and civilians thought of us as part of this industry. I am classy in public and you could never catch me being hella trashy out at a mainstream event. Come on now, there is a time and a place. As a porn performer, I give my all and rock my socks off, lol.

I hate to be repetitious, but I need to reiterate an important overlooked point ... the industry ALREADY HAS SPOKESPERSONS; Jenna, Sharon, Nina, Annie, Jane Hamilton, to name just a few ARE spokeswomen, writers, performance artists, debaters in the national forum, guests on Fox News, a face on the cover of Time magazine and interviewed by many including CNN news, 60 minutes and God help us all; the Tyra Banks show.
If "you" choose not to acknowledge the elephant in the room; why are you seeking another? The unwillingness to listen is unarguably apparent in the mainstream, but also ironically from within the X-rated forum. Who's going to listen to "us" when we don't listen to ourselves?

Do you hear yourself?
Jenna isn't exactly a fan of the industry anymore
Sharon is a fraud
Nina doesn't know the meaning of terse nor how to stay on topic
Annie hasn't done any porn in 30 years
and Jane Hamilton??? You have got to be kidding me right?
assuming they want to speak for the industry how many of them have ever even had a public speaking class? how many have ever once attended toastmasters?
What we have here is a bunch of people who want to go to the moon but don't want to learn to fly. Every chick in porn wants to believe she has value beyond being a fucksicle but how many of them actually put forth the effort?

I had to. I hate improvisational speaking in front of a group. I did theatre when I was younger, and that was fine because I didn't have to come up with my own words.
But just speaking? I couldn't do it without my voice cracking and my hands shaking.

Yeah but how serious will people take her if they find out she actually did an ultimate guide for anal sex? ;-)
I will say John Stagliano still because he's the biggest authority in porn and the only true porn revolutionary ever!

I'd choose NINA every day of the week and twice on sunday, with Tricia a close second.

And therein lies my point...God Bless ya I know you are bright and articulate but you made it pretty clear that you have no desire to be an industry spokesperson.
As an industry we are not very good at representing ourselves because by and large we lack professionalism. Even our industry trade organization the woefully inadequate FSC is completely incompetent and irresponsible.
Bill Margold ( love him or hate him) had it right when he told congress to leave us alone and the industry would destroy itself. Take a look around porn valley and tell me with a straight face he didn't get it right.

I realize we have some fantastic, awesome spokespeople . . . I was mostly asking for people's personal favorites, because, as is quite obvious, not everyone likes some who the mainstream media have fixed their cameras on, and because there are a lot of wonderful, well-spoken starlets who we think would be great representatives but don't have the big name recognition. This is mostly just a "Who'd be your pick?" kinda poll instead of a "Why doesn't the industry have a spokesperson?", because of course we have many.
And even though the thread has veered all over the place, I'm very interested in younger men and women (i.e. those who didn't start out in the wonderful Golden Age of porn, when things were a lot different) who are still actively starring (versus, say, directing, writing, being an activist, or otherwise representing the industry in their amazing ways).

Other than high tech NASA stuff my background is political science, need I point out how appallingly horrid this industry is at managing it's perception?

Belladonna, she has a great personality and is very intelligent, plus she isn't full of herself.
I've chatted with her in person and she had me laughing but you can't stop thinking of her in those hardcore scenes so its great fun to see her as an intelligent independant woman.

As far as dudes go, I'd say Eric Edwards and Hershel Savage come across much better than Ron, they just aren't as desperate to babble to anyone who will listen.

Since you are the only person who has actually indicated a willingness to accept the position, I believe that we can now close the nominations and declare you Kelly Divine, Official Spokesperson of Pornography. You are hereby authorized to order business cards, stationary, and head-shots so identifying yourself, and to make such public appearances and comments from time to time as you may deem necessary and appropriate to fulfill your responsibilities. Note that there is no expense account associated with this position; however, your rate for B/G Anal shall be, and is, raised by One Hundred Dollars ($100.00).

I would choose Sasha Grey herself. She's in my opinion damn intelligent. If you've seen her talking on Youtube and interviews ect. And not forget: She represents a lot of young adult performers.

^A delicious thought....But why exactly does porn need a spokesperson? A really good hand puppet would make more sense.

I nominate Stacy Valentine. She's already released a docu-biography about her life before porn, during porn and after porn. The title is "The Girl Next Door". It was documented and captured by filmmaker/producer Christine Fugate in 1999 and released in 2000. It could not be released because it came out at the same time that the mainstream movie "The Girl Next Door" w/Elisha Cuthbert was out. So the studio that made the mainstream movie was going to sue Stacy Valentine and Christine Fugate if they released it under that title. So instead they just had to sell it online. They didn't find this out until they had already manufactured thousands of units and cover boxes with "The Girl Next Door" displayed them. All the promotion of it was based around the "Girl Next Door" title and design. It would have cost a lot of money to recall and reprint and redistribute all of those units. So they couldn't do anything but sell it online.
I think this was a big disappointment for many people b/c they wanted this movie to be available for rental to the masses. Since it's a documentary, I don't think it's rated, so people would have been able to rent it. Too bad b/c it's a great look into the industry and answers most of the standard questions that most people have about porn and porn stars. You know, stuff like "Were you molested as a child?" "Are you addicted to meth?" "Do you really like performing in porn?" It's an honest look at porn. Both good and bad are presented.
Last I heard, Stacy was working for Penthouse as the director of new female talent/model acquisitions. She is still very involved in the industry, relevant and working in a completely different side of the industry. She is excellent in her present job w/Penthouse. She has a great eye for talent and an uncanny ability for being able to "read" girls. She's also very effective at helping bring new talent into the adult industry. Even if it's just a Penthouse lingerie magazine w/some racy photos of hot chicks in see-thru lingerie, Stacy knows it all b/c she's had so much experience.
She's still hot, but she has a real, genuine presence. It's just too bad that she's had some plastic surgery on her face and she looks different. Not Jenna Jameson plastic surgery, but enough to change her original look a little bit.
So, as I said, I nominate Stacy Valentine.
PS- If anybody has any recent news regarding Stacy, please share..

A spokesperson requires an entity it speaks for.
Since there ain't such entity as "porn industry" or "adult entertainment" there's no need for a spokesperson.
For example ask Paul Thomas and Tricia Devereaux.
I don't think they can agree on a person to represent them both.
I'm not even sure they can agree that they work in the same branch of the entertainment industry.

Actually, I don't agree.
That would be like saying that Kevin Smith and Martin Scorscese aren't both in the same mainstream industry.

You think it is possible to find a spokesperson that represents the interests of Vivid and Evil Angel equally?

In a microcosm of entertainment full of attention whores (male and female) do you think it really possible that anyone would defer an on camera interview with Fox news to an "official spokesperson?"

LOL Oh hell no
I can't defend the actions of the FSC much less the more fringe elements of this biz. Much as I love this biz about 50% of it shames me.
i guess you could say I have mixed emotions.

(I guess Traci Lords is simply out of the question)
Nina Hartley jumped to mind immediately. Spokesperson? Hell! How about Ambassador!
The problem with picking a woman in the industry for a few years is that you never know what will happen. The last thing we need is for someone to be the spokesperson, quit porn and then rally against it ala Jersey Jaxin.
