simple answer : because men are buying and renting bad movies.
Is this good or bad ?
Yes and no !

Thousands of new movies are released every month.
If more than 10% would be good, than I would be broke in 4 weeks. I already spend around 250 $ every month.

But if more men would rent/buy more quality porn, more quality porn would be in the first row and produced and could appeal to more women.

A movie like " Fantasy ", "Misty Beethoven Musical", "Devil in Miss Jones Remake " is really interesting for women, but
they have to find these gems, they are almost lost in a glut of crap.

I really hate the advance of the US discount DVDs, incredible junk - bad picture quality, telephone sex adverts ( should I call them from Europe ? ) - excerpts from old movies mixed like a jigsaw puzzle, that isnt fitting.

But because they are cheap, men are buying this.
A video store owner said to me, " I hate this crap, but customers are buying it, so I have to offer this."

Either because 90% of the studios are making money from them or studios are making 90% of their money from them not sure which. Just another way of stating caroline-NL's simple answer without being gender specfic.

Consistently buying porn that pleases you is a skill you can only developing by discovering what you like then knowing who provides it. What did you like about Jenna's DMJ (I assume that's the remake you're referring to)?

Did you like Jenna's performance? Get more Jenna movies.

Did you like the direction and "look" of the video? Get more videos from that studio.

I just found this old thread that tells you how to find videos you like

When bad movies make money and have the producers laugh all the way to the bank and we are willing to shell out the big bucks to see the crap...then why shud anybody bother making classy porns?

Stop picking the crap for a month and see how the studios start whining and the hoity toity sluts wipe the smiles of their face and get down to do what they're paid to do while pretending to enjoy it.

As long as a sucker is born everyday and he is willing to put his money where his sex organs are watching pathetic stuff that we feel isn't worth puking over...this is exactly how the cookie crumbles...whether we go blue in the face screaming over the quality or just sitting back and enjoying the crap that is dished out. As long as the demand exceeds the supply we will have to lump it..with or without a smile, the choice is ours the other option go for the 10% classics so that the remaining 90% put on their thinking caps and dish out what we want instead of getting what they think we want....As long as this message does't go out..we'll have to learn to live with the crap.

Yes a lot of crap is produced these days. But remember: What 1 person would consider crap, might not be crap in the eyes of another person.

It does not bother me that a lot of crap is produced because I know what I like and what I don't like. And I have no problem getting what I like. I think the internet is the key. You can get a lot of porn on pay sites and you don't pay that much for it. I still buy DVDs because some movies are must-haves for me.

This response is right on the money. It isn't just porn. It's everything. Quality porn just gets lost in the crowd a lot more easily and is harder to find because you can't really see it before you buy it. A lot of porn customers are on and off customers so they often have no idea who makes good stuff and who doesn't.

It's a whole lot easier (and cheaper) to make a movie look great from a box cover or a trailer than it is to actually make a great movie. With porn, you almost have no choice but to judge a book by it's cover.

Other kinds of goods, it's easier to find a quality product because it's a physical product that you can hole in your hands and visually inspect. It takes at least half an hour to determine the quality of each porn movie. Walk into any porn shop. How many movies do you see? The casual consumer isn't going to bother going to great lengths to get the best quality. He or she is going to grab something that looks good and if it isn't, oh well.

Studios know this. Put a quality photo of a pretty girl (looking all seductive and shit) on a glossy cover and grab the best split-second frames from the entire movie for the reverse and a whole lot of people will snatch it right up.

Unfortunately , you are right randomprecision. Trailers and boxcovers is all we have to go on , most of the time. There are also reviews that help but , with so many movies coming out , most of them don't get reviewed , so it's very difficult to choose.

I have stopped renting movies by certain companies and directors ...but 1 person can't make any difference , obviously.
There are some movies that I find completely terrible but others find them completely amazing...and I am sure that the opposite occurs , as well.

The fact remains that this is business and these producers are here to make money. I can't say that I blame them ...but I do believe that they can cater to more people in the process.

Five Star DVD used to have a warning on every Nymph Pictures product page that said something like "There is a high level of customer dissatisfaction with Nymph titles." Yet people still bought them.

People love cheap crap. Just ask Walmart.

Coule 90% of porn be bad because production is up about 10000% over the past decade? It has nothing to do with rentals and sales, because these companies come and go these days faster than the women do.

@bustdowngal

Normally, I didnt like Jenna, but I liked her DMJ remake.
She is playing very good in it, the movie is very clever. It has many - sometimes well hidden - hints and insinuations
to the original, but to the golden age of porn in general.

Neu Wave Hookers is also a film a liked, even if it has some lengths.

to all:
Thanks for your fast answers, guys.
It is right, a "normal" woman, not a porn addict like me, almost has no chance to find a quality porn movie.
The marketing, cover etc. all is very stylish, but then...
Many companys have excellent and stylish covers, but very stupid and primitive movies.
Its as if you are buying the "New Yorker" by cover, but inside there are articles written by morons from bizarro earth.
If video stores would care a little more about the movies they sell, they would have a - recommendation wall - with the 30 best DVDs or VHS. We have this in many video stores, and even if you have another opinion, you can talk this out.

yeah Caroline

With Hollywood movies, we get experience from childhood on to find out what we like. With porno, we have to start in adulthood, so we don't have 15 years of experience with knowing what we like by the first time we're choosing one of our own. On top of that, most of us don't have a lot of experience seeing real people have sex by the time we are buying our first porno. So there's a lot of weight on the first porno buy. But it's like going to a foreign culture and buying food. You just have to keep trying until you find what you like. You may like the very first meal, or it may make you sick. You have to trial and error.

Hollywood also has better marketing to tell the mainstream world what's good, in that invasive way. Porno companies can't pop on TV during the news and say "Hey! Jenna's new movie is awesome!"

I have to say that I don't find that 90% of movies are bad, but I like the gonzo type of movies, so maybe it's a matter of taste, as I think these are mainly made for male viewers. I also find the production quality is quite good, much better than the old VHS days. Maybe you can use the reviews on this forum to help you find the type of movie you want.

90% sounds about right to me, too.

I've only been viewing porn in earnest for the last 5 years or so, and it's taken me almost that long to realize how many bad directors there are shooting porn I don't like. Even titles that 3 years ago I considered essential viewing have been obsoleted by much better stuff I've seen since.

The "impulse purchase" is a rare thing for me these days, but it still happens, and I still occasionally hit the jackpot. But in general, I've cut my purchasing back. I've got enough porn to last me the rest of my life, and then some. lol.

People simply have different tastes. Being male (or not) really doesn't have much to do with it. I'm male and I don't like a lot of what's out there. But I've been watching porn for many years and have seen pretty much everything the industry has to offer so I'm really hard to impress.

But beyond that....I might watch a movie and it might blow me away. I might tell everyone here how great it is and that they shouldn't miss it. 90% of the ones who get it might then hate it and wonder what the fuck is wrong with me to like such a "steaming pile of crap".

Thus, the problem with choosing "quality" porn is even more complicated than it may at first seem. Everyone has a different definition of what constitutes "quality porn". You can't even count on reviewers to have the exact same tastes as you. They might love it and you might want to beat them over the head with it for recommending it to you. They might utterly hate it and you might think it's the Mona Lisa of porn. You can sort of get to know particular reviewers and get a rough idea by what they have to say but people's taste in sex and porn are so individual that even that doesn't guarantee success.

I wouldn't want to tell people in the industry "Stop making this garbage. Period" because it might not be garbage to everyone. Maybe some people absolutely love what I hate. I would rather tell them what I don't like and what I do like and hope they someday will find what I like to be an economically viable product to make and sell alongside the products they already have.

caroline you are becoming my favorite poster to the forum. I love the topics, question, and opinions you bring to the forum.

It all depends on an individual taste like with music, mainstream movies, and art. “One persons trash is another’s treasure”

BustdownGal has it right the trill is in searching and finding your treasure.

With the Internet more women are discovering porn without shame and humiliation. They too will discover what they like and dislike. As the women porn consumers ranks grow so will the number of movies made they like.

But I think male and female taste in porn will come closer together not further apart. We are both interested in sex and exploring sex and the objective is to meet in the middle.

But there is no explain the cheap crowed, there will always be the 2 for the price of 1 crowed.

@shagdog

Thank you for your nice compliments ... :-)

I thought it would be good, to bring another female point of view to this forum.

I think many women are going the easy way, they complain about bad porn, they complain, that her boyfriends/husbands watch these bad porn, but not many are stating, what they want to see in porn movies.

Yes, good porn isnt dependent from the gender.
I think the dutch and danish, maybe french and italian porno shows that, that men and women are aroused, if there is a nice little story, an erotic atmosphere and sex, that all actors and actresses really enjoy.

Ive read, that Nautica Thorne wants to set up a female porn label, I am really looking forward this project.
But a label "female porn" can be a warning hint for men. I can already see men dropping the DVDs, "thats only for women, so it must be boring ". All of the women labels - there were some in Germany - were commercial failures.

Luckily we never had this categorization in NL.

Your welcome caroline. As the ranks of the female porn consumer grow. The females will have a wide variety in the porn they like. Each will have there on idea of what’s good porn just like the men.

I know myself my taste in porn has changed and expanded over the years. Women will end up doing the same thing.

I only heard a little bit about it, but there seems to a sex positive feminist movement growing in the US. Porn seems to be telling women that are straight or gay that’s it a lot more fun to be BI. And men are realizing having a BI girlfriend is not a bad thing.

Candida Royalle made couples porn or female porn which ever you wanted to call it. It was very boring. Now I do love lesbian porn. I have seen a lot made by lesbians for lesbian that was hot.

My girl friend likes the porn I pick out. The hard edge anal and ATM’s she even done some ATM’s herself.

If the two of us went in a porn store. I don’t think we would pick out the same porn movies. Unless of course I thought there was a change you would let watch it with you and we have sex. Then anything you picked out would be fine with me lol

I think that really depends on the man. I think porn does suffer from not enough input from women and being so entirely male dominated. I do like to see hard action but sometimes I like softer stuff too. I don't think porn always has to be as hard and nasty as it can get.

I think that unfortunately many porn consumers buy whatever is stocked on their local store's shelves. Especially if it has a good cover.

There is one director in particular who consistently is a favorite on ADT. Everyone worships him. But I'm appalled at the production quality of his movies. Yes, the girls are A-list, the guys are solid and the action is good. But the lighting, camerawork, sets, editing and production value is for shit.

Perhaps the average raincoater doesn't care?

There's a lot of things that contribute towards this, but often it can just be a matter of opinion.

For me, movies with poor production values and little creativity can still be very entertaining if they have the right vibe and connection between performers. Sometimes the best production values, and scenario set ups still result in boring, tedious sex scenes, with no real energy or well crafted shots.

One of the worst things is that, for the sake of cost efficiency and productivity, a lot of companies can shoot 3 or more scenes in a day. I don't think this is ever going to translate into memorable content for viewers.

However, I think that a lot has changed over the past year or so, and generally speaking today's porn consumers are more discerning than they've ever been. The best companies right now are invariably putting out the best movies. The best directors aren't that difficult to find, and there has never been more information available to consumers to inform their buying/renting decisions. As the market continues to re-adjust I think you'll see more and more of the crap filtering away, and the most reliable companies (JJ, Evil, RLD, ZT, etc) still at the top because of their quality product/marketing.

This is very true, but with so many different production studios you can only force feed consumers so much. Also, the companies that take the time to have outstanding photography, and great box cover artwork, + well edited trailers, tend to be the ones who also take the time to shoot quality porn. As a porn consumer myself, I usually think that investment in quality is a good sign.
