It's certainly better than adult film actress, which is really a pretentious term. It's like calling porn Adult Entertainment. It's a term the porn industry uses to try to make their product more acceptable to the general public. Call it porn and it gets a rather more negetive reaction from many than if you call it an adult film. In the end porn is porn, and pornstars are pornstars. Any term describing porn or pornstars with the word "adult" is a marketing ploy by the porn industry. Think if you were doing a serious article on the porn industry. Click to expand I think you've got a good system. "Pornstar" made it into the lexicon mainly because it's easy to say and therefore became the favored word of the mainstream. Therefore, it couldn't help but become the easily identifiable way to label anyone in adult. And it is all about the division between mainstream America and those of us who know more about adult than just JJ. So while one might expect Luke Ford, Roger Pipe, or the NaughtyAmerican to be a bit more judicious about who they label a star and such, I wouldn't expect that from, say, USAToday or CBS News. [Link]
