I am straight as a ruler, as to why I am insecure about my masuculinity..is beyond me...anyways I'm a fucking idiot.

We straight people get the pleasure to watch good sex on DVD for some good fairly decent prices.

Gay people don't get such the full benefit I think like we straight people do because price tags on Gay DVDS just makes it such a downer. How can they fully enjoy, without making sure their money did not hit a sour note? Gay DVDs run for..$35, $40, $32..ouch.

It's so unfair.

Whats the reason behind this? What the fuck do they charge for a two disc set? $65 beans!?! Give me a break.

Why is this? I'm curious.

sonic - it's really just a volume issue. the gay dvd market is much smaller than the straight market. they have to charge higher prices to recoup their costs. prices have been coming down, but not even close to the straight dvd bargains.

Gay VHSs are pretty much the same. All the big studio flicks come out at at least $49.99. I've seen some even go for $69.99!

The nice thing about VHS is, that with a few exceptions, the price plumets to around $20 after a few months. I wonder why the DVD prices don't drop after a title has been out a while?

Because it's a totally different market. VHS is a new release market - new releases outsell 'catalog' titles by a big factor (aren't I specific ;) Since DVDs aren't being released on the same day or even the same month or year as the video, it can't really be a new release market. Catalog titles sell just as well (Flashpoint is a great example.)

Retailers pay vastly different prices for new releases on VHS than they do for catalog titles. In DVD the price difference is negligible. Some studios don't even have different prices for new releases versus catalog.

I'm sure the VHS pricing model is somewhat affected by the rental pricing that dominates the mainstream VHS market. Rental pricing basically means that retailers pay very high prices for new releases - that they will make up for with rentals. After a certain time period the price drops to a sales price - so they can sell the videos as a reasonable price.
