I admit I don't pay much attention to the titles usually. My purchasing/renting decision is almost always based on the girls who are in it. However, I really don't like seeing negative words like slut, whore, nasty, etc. in the title. It just doesn't turn me on and makes me feel like I'm doing something bad by watching the film. Why can't studios make the titles sound more positive, like "Beautiful Angels Having Fun" or something like that?

There are ways around it. We could use fewer Cum Gagging Sluts on the market, but I don't think the average porn viewer would know what to expect with Beautiful Angels Having Fun. I myself would worry that the DVD would be footage of the Porn Valley Angels slow-pitch softball team.

I think one of the clues lies exactly here. Porn has incorporated that its-a-bad-thing notion of mainstream society and turned it round positive. Its like gangsta-rappers doing everything to sound like criminals even they might be the nicest and most law-abiding people. Its just a cliche reproduced on dvd box covers. And as most customers dont see it, it makes them still feel bad, feel doing something wrong - which in turn pushes the sales. Because doing something wrong (sic!) - especially on safe porn consuming ground - is more interesting than doing always the right, mainstream-moral things.
Thus porn has developped its own ghetto-language, where whore does not equal the mainstream notion og whore, and slut not the mainstream notion of slut. And the word gagging is more common than the word kissing - even though both acts are quite rare. Its just everything upside-down.
Simply because they cater to the segment of the audience which has never developed a normal attitude to women.

Juha, I think you are really just feeding an old prejudice about porn consumers.

Interesting question.
According to Adult DVD Empire, on their list of the top 100 best sellers, you have to get to 29 before a derogatory title appears.
I blame neuropsychology. The diencephalic parts of our brain (limbic, in particular) that gives us our sexual impulses is more likely to respond to things more graphic an crude. In short: Stimuli that is simple and unambiguous.
Consequentially "Cum dumpsters" and "Girls who suck cock and take it in the ass" probably has more appeal to sexual impulse than "Satyr" (#35).
However, the best seller list defies this. (#1:Flashpoint)
In part this is because of the titles Adult DVD Empire chooses to carry.

You could very well be right, Croy.
I imagine if you live in the Bible Belt, a title with a more "honest" name like "I like it Black and Deep in my Ass" would likely get you prosecuted if you sold it. Perhaps even if you bought it. (I'm no expert in these matters.)
Hence, they may not carry a title that could be a massive seller. Innocuous-titled vids may get a boost from this.
I wish we could find a "Billboard's Top 100" list for porn titles, and settle this once and for all. Can you recommend one?

There are a bunch of titles that are not disrespectful to women. Just look at almost anything Vivid, DP or Wicked puts outs. Those titles are always something non offensive, like "Fade In" or "Island Fever."
But from a marketing standpoint, a consumer who is looking for a hardcore movie with certain acts or fetishes, needs to know what's inside. I guess you can have something called "Beautiful and intelligent women", but also have the front of the box show a pussy wrecked and dripping with cum. That would probably work. But only if the text was small and the picture was big.
I think most my titles aren't too offensive, except maybe Swallow Sluts. I try to K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid!)
I think sometimes the extreme crazy porno titles are done in fun, and sometimes not by some of the producers who truly dislike women. But there are much more men in the business who love women than vice versa. Oh and welcome back simp.
I agree that perhaps for many men buying or renting a porn title with the word "slut" on the box has a more illicit, naughtier feel to it. The word slut rings loudly of a good-time girl with the potential to try anything to many guys' ears. It's an easy trigger-word, it pushes buttons, and I've seen some men actually salivate after saying it out loud in a conversation. For some people it probably makes renting that title almost an unconscious reflex.
But I also agree with the notion that the word is being taken back by the women in the porn community. I can easily picture a lot of these girls being called sluts in their home towns or high schools (at least in the US), treated like the local tramp, a pariah, etc. In porn, I see women looking into the cameras and gleefully announcing "I am a SLUT! I LOVE fucking!" and owning it like a badge of honor. They live in this parallel universe of the porn world where they are treated like queens for being sluttier than everybody else. It may not apply to all male talent out there, but I hear them sometimes refer to girl as sluts with an edge of respect and awe in their tone (again, sometimes). As a woman, I don't mind hearing it, although like with everything else it always depends on the situation and context.
Everyone should have the opportunity to have a career doing what they love the most. Here in porn both men (yes, men are sluts too) and women can be both as slutty as they have always wanted to be and make tons more dinero in one week doing it than probably half the people back home that mocked them do in several months.
I admit I'm pretty naive when it comes to the world of porn. There's a lot out there I haven't seen, because most of it bores me. I have a lot of male friends who buy porn and I never got the impression from them that the word "slut" or "whore" made them think any less of the women in the movie.
* There is a magazine called "Bitch" that caters to - and is published by - women who are feminists.
* There is a magazine called "Heeb" that caters to - and is published by - Generation-X Jews.
* Gay academics often refer to college courses devoted to non-heterosexual themes as "queer studies"
* ...and then there is the frequent use of the N-word by young African-Americans.
Bringing this back to porn:
Some of the titles mentioned are made by women who don't see those words as derogatory to them when used "among the tribe". It's not just men who rent/purchase this material.
In the 20th-century, porn producers did quite well for themselves without such film titles. Does that mean that there was no significant woman-bashing male audience? Or is it that this new century has spawned, out of nowhere, misogynists who never would have bothered with 20th-century porn because the titles were too respectful?
They wouldn't title them with those names if they weren't selling. Why??? Because the consumer is buying and renting the ones with those titles. Why is everything anal these days? Because it's what the consumer wants to see right now. It's the most happening popular thing.
And as far as being deogratory to us females??? :P NAhhhh it's all in fun loving and good nature...if it wasn't I for one certainly wouldn't do it.
Here's a link to an earlier thread on the topic with some interesting comments. I believe that for a brief time during the original run of that thread, Steph had a spoof boxcover posted of a porn dvd called Nice Ladies that Enjoy Intercourse.
Every example you quote works on the philosophy of the insulted group appropriating a derogatory term for their own use & therefore recasting it --- though Bill Cosby among many other Black Americans prominent & otherwise have denounced the casual use of the word "nigger" by Blacks themselves as a neon sign of Black self-disrespect.
While some women consume porn -- though even fewer of that number are, I'm certain, in the actual economic equation, in other words they watch what their male sig other watches -- the number of women renting/buying/watching Red Light District et al has got to be negligible (except for the Paris Hilton vid -- I'm sure that has an incredibly high female-viewing spike).
Simp, meet Sheldon. You two should have coffee. He will help you rationalize your pain away.
In fact, if the trend continues, we'll see lots of Roman Catholic young sinners entering the biz because they'll reason just like they did in HS that they can give up the sphinc yet still save themselves for their wedding night!
Perhaps this will in turn prompt a greater consumption of mainstream pornography among priests, & relieve the pressure that is a great deal of the cause of their ... indiscretions.
As well, even though still technically virgins, the Host-swallowing porn actresses WILL have various sins to confess ("Father, I did a pissmops today & took the savior's name in vain when Khan urinated in my mouth," "Father, I told a lie when I said to Vince Voyeur that perenieum wart was just a shaving scar," "Father, I was the one who stole GIa's glass and subbed it with baby powder and just a little Drano, I swear!"),
& with this new policy, the shepherds will be better trained to guide these sheep: "Just three Hail Marys, my child, you're only human. That mind-fucking Semite has one nasty site. Are you going to be on the next DVD collection, by the way?"
And your idea is wasted in the Vatican...may I recommend Congress? This is a hell of a lot better than "abstinence-only" sex-ed, particularly for us hetero sodomites.
People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw pet rocks. Pet rock! -- S how could you? To the casual observer and trend spotter all things anal may indeed be fashionable and in vogue and the "new black" but a vagina is the veritable Diana Vreeland of the female anatomy, the simple cashmere sweater that goes with everything and always will. The "little black dress", the sling back pump...
Do they? I'd like to know more about that. Not so much about your dick as such but more about the effect of the language.

And now you probabely will argue that exactly the same consumer segment having no "normal" attitude to women is renting/buying those derogatory title and box cover description segment of porn dvd production? - Just keep it simple and as moralistic as possible, he?!
No way, I'm not touching this subject beyond that because I suspect that this Matthew guy is a troll. Just look at the shit that's already been posted, if he's not intentionally a troll he is effectively a troll for starting this thread.
Besides, they don't really give me any erection but they do tell me the level of smut that I am renting/buying.

Maybe not a troll, but a form participant clearly leaning on the very PC-side - more condoms, nice mainstream language etc. - infesting a lot of mainstream prejudices about porn.
I always wonder why a lot of so called porn fans dont seem to genuinely like the smut they watch, but feel a need to feel bad about it somewhere deep in their heart. And somehow want to save their soul by constantly attacking the very thing they support with their money.
The fact that he has posted more than 30 times is an indication that he may not be a troll. But so many threads get started, based on the dipiction of women in porn, by trolls that it's hard to tell who is and who isn't.
However, note that this guy has started this thread but has not responded to anything posted in it.
It really pisses me off that anybody who opens a thread which criticizes the latest developments in porn is suspected a troll.
Boys, watch your CUM GUZZLING FILTHY GAGGING DDP-TAKING WHORES on DVD. I don't mind. But stop calling members of ADT trolls only because they have a "less refined porn taste" than you.
Don't you see you're in fact acting just like the extreme right-wing.
Lighten up. I'm not a troll. I just don't like a lot of the current trends in porn. I like my porn to show people having sex and enjoying it. Films that show women vomiting from having a 9 inch cock shoved completely down her throat are not sexy to me. The same as seeing "slut" and "whore" in the title of the movie. It honestly makes me feel sorry for the girls and also makes me feel guilty for watching the movie.
As time changes and moves along;Society tends to turn more Liberal. This is No different in Porno. In the late 70s;we enjoyed the Romance of Sex,In the 90s we advanced to Gonzo and Harcore Anal. Now in the 2000's;the trend is too dwelve deeper and deeper in the bowels of deprivety and bebartury; and to tune in to Mans Animalistic shoviness desires. The acts of degradation of Females and the promotion of it is now a key marketing ploy that Ladies obviously dont have a problem promoting;because they are doing it.It is not a right or wrong thing;but a reality thing. In the years that follow;there will be something else to replace this trend of deprivety and degradation in Porno. As long as it busts wads, sells units, and girls are willing to do it;expect to see a whole lot more degradation for consumers pleasure.
Following Ninn "deeper into the darkness..." Somebody save me from the impenetrable darkness..

Amen to that.
Important 1: Ladies are willing to do it. So no need to feel guilty watching, Matthew! Why not feel good watching something other people want to do? Its all about better than watching lets say a car accident which involves something that all participants wanted to happen.
Important 2: It sells units. Sale figures proove that there is customer demand. As long as porn actors are willig to stage what sells, fine.
Important 3: Consumer pleasure. Porn is just an entertainment industry. Please try to remember that!
And last but not least: Especially for those of us aquainted with German porn productions or licences: German box covers - title and description - tent to be the most deregatory since 10 years. I dont see any developpement to the worse with them. They always were quite tasteless. Examples: Ehehure, Fickschlampe etc. Read boxcovers descritions of lets say Testosteron and you meet a new level of porn cliche derogation...
Sorry Matthew, it appears that you may not be a troll indeed.
Now, to the subject at hand. As Mienhagen has stated, "Ladies are willing to do it." So don't feel bad about whacking off to it, it is just natural really. You are just not de-sensitized to it yet but give it time and you will be. But don't force it, a little bit at a time and soon enough you will be blowing ginormous loads to this type of porn. You will crave it and won't be able to get enough of it. Remember, most of the girls in these films can't get enough of this nasty sex either.
Yeah I'm relating to ya, just recently i happened to watch some trailers in some m... hunter site and it was soo degrading. I can't believe these women put up with this kind of humiliation... i know i wouldn't no matter how how much you offer me.
They always were quite tasteless. Examples: Ehehure, Fickschlampe etc. Read boxcovers descritions of lets say Testosteron and you meet a new level of porn cliche derogation...
Yeah Matthew get with it, toughen up -- you too should aspire to buy and enjoy tasteless cliche porn...
It's a tough bargain to make I think -- I want to enjoy all the nasty filthy sex that's on the DVD but I have to put up with the shitty boxcover? That's got to be in contravention of some basic human right or international convention doesn't it?
"And it'll make your dick harder if I tell you on the box just how nasty these gals are, because you dear fool have got no concept -- none at all-- I have to spell it out, they're nasty whores, got it? No? Hold on, nasty, nasty whores. Let me repeat that for you in gaudy colours."
Oh you're making me sad. Degradation of sex is one thing -- degradation of language is unforgivable.
Maybe Matthew you should have posted your concerns to the per peeve thread -- that's the legitimate place to make complaints not out here in the open air.

Loraine, in his original question Matthew didnt really complain. He asked why this happens (but obviousely doesnt want to hear the answers) and stated that he was feeling like he did something bad by watching this titles.
If so, I think there are still a lot of titles and boxcover descriptions out there he can rent/buy without feeling bad.
Come now juha, I am simply just trying to help our boy matthew. It is true that Melissa Lauren and Audrey Hollander are among the many that beg for more of this type of sex in the scenes they perform in.
Now matthew, for this type of 'derogatory to women' fantasy to become erotic, just remember back to highschool or college and all of those girls who would not give you the time of day. Remember how angry that it made you and how you wished that you could have fucked each and everyone of them in the ass. Use your Anger, because your anger will make you stronger and more powerful then ever. More capable of larger cum blasts. Use the darkside of the porn.
Wow, there's another thing I missed during high school and college. Is this one of the 'entitlement generation' things? I guess I didn't drink the haterade because I didn't think women owed me sex.
