Like many others on here, I would consider myself a porn geek. I have multiple memberships, can easily name hundreds of performers and get genuinely excited for new/upcoming releases. There are more than a handful of performers that I follow rather closely, and a few that I am nothing shy of a total fanboy of, and I am in no way embarrassed or ashamed to admit that. While most of my friends would go crazy to meet mainstream actresses, I would be much more stoked to meet someone like Asa Akira or Vicki Chase. Sometimes I'm taken aback by the negativity that some porn fans bring to the table. As a member of Brazzers, I often see people complaining that their Hot & Mean scenes are too soft. Enter the recent Adriana Chechik/[redacted by legal demand] scene that was very rough for mainstream standards and featured full-on anal fisting, not something typically seen on mainstream American porn sites. And yet a great deal of the comments were people who were grossed out and appalled by the scene. Then there's the borderline racist comments that are becoming more and more prevalent now that Brazzers is featuring much more interracial content than they have in the past few years. I often see people complaining that the upcoming Evil Angel release schedules aren't good enough, when there is always a great variety of content. There are also the consistent complaints that the site showcases too much transgender porn, but what about those of us who are fans of that genre? I don't like stuff directed by Adriano or Moore, but I find it pretty easy to scroll past it. Obviously transgender porn isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but clearly a large portion of Evil's audience enjoys it or they wouldn't put out so many releases. Another thing that disturbs me is the lack of respect that many fans on this forum have for the performers themselves. In too many threads I've seen guys claiming they wouldn't date or marry a porn star, which to me is just sad. You watch these women, post on a forum about them, in some cases "fanboy" over them and yet still view them as "below" your idea of what a significant other is supposed to be. As hardcore fans we are supposed to be the ones fighting the notion that porn is a seedy industry that showcases screwed up women, not feeding into it. I have been shocked by how closed-minded some guys here can be.

Welcome to the internet. Seriously, anything online that allows people to anonymously comment on something will inevitably produce a load of overly negative feedback.
If you read some of the product reviews at Amazon.com, then you will see that not all the reviewers are positive there either. But this kind of thing varies from one product to another. Some products have mostly negative reviews, while other products have mostly positive reviews. And plenty of products have mixed reviews. This kind of feedback is very useful for both buyers and sellers. Because this makes it easier for buyers to choose what products to buy. And sellers can also use this feedback to change their products or create new products to sell. You need feedback like this in any commercial enterprise to improve the products and please the customers, so that they will buy more than before. Perhaps the problem is that this customer feedback for porn movies isn't as well organized in the porn industry as it is at Amazon.com and other retailers for other products. Porn companies should have a user comment section for each movie with a 1 to 5 star rating the way Amazon has set it up for its products. So that it's easy for everyone to see whether most of the comments and ratings are positive or negative. You need both positive and negative comments and ratings to have some kind of credibility for such opinions. If everyone is extremely positive for each and every product, then nobody is going to believe such opinions and reviews. The trick is having many opinions and ratings from many users in a way that you can see them all. Because if the movie is truly good, then most of the reviews and ratings will be very positive. someone is always negative about something, welcome to real life
Quite true. It's not simply a porn thing...it's an internet thing. And from what I can tell there just seems to be many many people out there who are just negative in general. The net gives them an outlet to bore and annoy everyone with it. Many people tend to think they know what's best, that people who don't like what they like don't know what's good, that the companies producing the product don't know what they're doing, the the old stuff was better, and everybody wants what they want. They've also convinced themselves they're a bit smarter than most other people and have a strong urge and resposibilty to tell others their opinions and thoughts over and over and over again. Yet they somehow miss the fact that they are seen as less than smart for buying/watching/reading something they claim to hate so much that no one is forcing on them. But don't point that out to them because they get angry and say it's their right to complain. This is true of pretty much everything from porn to movies to tv shows to books to celebrities to games to sports and everything in between. It's pretty much most messageboards or comments sections on pretty much any site.
I'm one of those people who said he wouldn't date an active pornstar. But that wasn't a putdown on the girl or her career choice but about me not wanting a girlfriend having sex with other people during our relationship. An ex-pornstar wouldn't be a problem for me. I think the lack of respect aspect some people display is based on them thinking very little of women in general and the notion that pornstars are ony good for one thing. Plus the notion that since they are a "customer" the pornstar should do whatever they ask for to keep them happy regardless of what that pornstar wants. Plus, since she's a public figure she should expect and be able to handle whatever "fans" say to her. And don't forget the most obvious reason...some "fans" are simpy creeps with no real social skills and are just negative and annoying people who feel empowered talking down to a "celeb".

Asking this question on the Internet is like asking a racist why they hate. There is no good reason. When people are happy, they rarely post. Only the negative or insane people will post something longer than a few sentences.
People tend to be more likely to voice their opinions when they are upset or disappointed in something. Also people tend to notice the negatives far more than the positives. It's like when 2 or 3 people in a long thread are pissing and moaning about something and you come away from it thinking people on the internet are assholes, despite the fact that there was another dozen or so people in that same thread that weren't bellyaching. If you want the internet to seem like a nicer place, I'd suggest spending a week reading the posts over at Blizzard's official Diablo III boards. The rest of the net will seem positively warm and cuddly afterwards.
I feel kind of privileged that this forum allows me to interact performers and directors in the industry. Because I want my opinion to have some weight, I try to keep my criticism constructive. In my experience people aren't very receptive when someone outright trashes their work or decisions. It's a great way to get your opinions summarily dismissed. Mostly though I just praise the choices I agree with. I believe in positive reinforcement. Also, there are directors on this site whose work I absolutely loathe and performers who I don't find attractive at all. You'll never catch me commenting in their threads. It would just be a waste of my time.
Isn't this the very reason to be in a forum? To talk and exchange opinions. But of course you mean those who repeat the very same thing over and over even unrelated to the topic at hand

The complaints have died down, nothing has changed in the industry as far as content is concerned, the porn companies have to be feeling pretty good. They shut down the opposition...on this board anyway.
Another thing that bugs me is the constant hounding to get some performer to do a specific sex act. If you want someone to do anal, IR, or whatever, just make your suggestion. Then leave it until a reasonable amount of time passes. Then you can make it again, to let them know there is still demand. Badgering a performer constantly will just drive them away. This. Another recurring phenomenon, at least judging by my own experience, are people who, when they express negative opinions on something, try to state opinions as facts. But in a sense, that might already have been touched upon in your post.

That is perhaps my no. 1 internet pet peeve, and it drives me crazy. I'm also irritated when, in discussions about porn, television, etc. generalized references are made to "the fans" and their wants and desires. How are these people determining a "fan" consensus? Why don't they qualify their statements or at least contextualize them?
I don't subscribe/participate in many Internet discussion forums but I can honestly say I think the vast majority of ADT contributors come over as erudite and respectful people - probably the thing that makes me check in on a daily basis. I love it here. Who would've thought it of a porn forum? It's certainly opened my eyes.
This is actually one of things I hate most. If a person doesn't like fake breasts, butts, girls that don't do IR, anal, or whatever...that's fine. Not everyone likes everything and it's okay to feel that way and even express it on a messageboard. But there are people who feel the need to try and justify or rationalize their dislike with their opinions that they're somehow convinced are facts they are never able to back up with credible info. When some people who do this even bother to try to back up their opinions it's usually with quotes of other people's often wrong opinion or an actual fact that has almost nothing to do with the topic at hand.
I am under the impression that some of those spreading negativity may actually try to affect those they trash , or the sites they trash in order to have them work less. regular watchers usually don't buy what they don't like either male or female or just some sexual acts, it's fine, but there are some who just cannot deal with this , they not only don't like some performers but repeat this again and again, there are some who even threatened some directors : I won't buy anything until you get rid of him! (or something sounding like that) , there are those who are constantly criticizing some director for his "poor casting" actually meaning he must hire the actresses he likes anything else is shit. A post is acceptable , maybe two, but ten pages like that are just annoying (and I suspect he has at least an alias to back up his own statements, I quoted one but was the other who answered me, no proof yet). The idea that they are affecting opportunities and work value doesn't even touch them, or very likely they just don't care or maybe they just want to wipe out of this business those who don't do what they want
Being negative is as natural as breathing for some folks. It's the easy way out. Finding fault in people, places & things requires little work & NO imagination. Conversely, it takes work to solve problems & live in the solution & some folks just don't have the time or the tools to accomplish this. It's really quite simple when you think about whom you'd rather be. Some folks choose to live a life of work & reward while others wallow in the woes of mankind. Our actions are very telling tales... ^ That platitude is a rather naive, black and white way of looking at it. Finding fault in things in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you find fault in something and explain what you think is wrong with it in a constructive manner or if you take a realistic and pragmatic approach, what's the matter with finding or looking for fault?
^Thanks for your input. I agree. But that's not what we're talking about. No one has a problem when someone finds fault & offers up a solution or a different way of looking at things. What we're talking about here is negative behavior as an end all in porn. Why does it exist? It exists because some folks expectations will NEVER be satisfied & their reaction is to complain & it ends there.
^ Again, I don't think one size fits all. It's not always the case that some people are never satisfied no matter what you do. Some people do not like change, especially when it comes to a porn actress' appearance e.g. if an actress gets a boob job, lip injection or a large tattoo, a vitriolic attack ensues from the sad act in question.
^ Kind of confused here. You disagree & then offer up an answer that is really no different than what was suggested. If people "don't like change" they have expectations of the status quo & when that doesn't occur they get disappointed (negative). My wish here isn't to provide the final word on why some people are so negative with regard to porn but to offer up thought provoking suggestions as to why this is so which can be as simple as because it's the easier way out...
