Why is there so few physical media releases anymore? Most of the ones I see are just compilations of scenes from websites, like Dogfart, DarkX etc.

Another unrelated question - why does this website look like it was designed 20+ years ago? It's so old fashioned.

^ That's funny. Complaining about the website looking like 20 years ago, but asking why a format that was popular 20 years ago isn't popular anymore...

The times they are a'changing.

Everyone streams in HD, no need for 480i videos anymore.
What you get on DVD is now the last point of merchandise exploitation, for the suckers who don't have internet.

The real question is, why are we putting up with content providers that want you to pay for something and not be able to download it? Certain "fansites" are like that, and studio websites are moving that way as well.

DVD is done because we can and should be able to download.

The most likely answer is probably the obvious one, the sales just aren't there to justify it anymore. Unless sites offer print on demand which can be expensive, if companies want physical media they need a minimum order, and need to be able to guarantee sale to justify that minimum order, and I can't imagine the economics of that make sense anymore.

So for some companies either they can get their DVDs produced super cheap, or they have some other deal in order to still churn out a few dozen new titles each week.
