I noticed almost all companies list only the names of the girls on the boxcovers, not the guys, why should this be? I wish all companies would list the full cast, makes it a lot more easy to decide if I should buy a movie or not, based on both males and females.

I think the answer is pretty simple.
The companies think audiences don't care.

Sometimes German releases of American porn don't even have the girls' names on the cover. Guess German distributors think the consumer doesn't know the names anyway.

I agree with you. The more info on the cover the better.

They don't list the male talent because they know there are consumers like you, Ramsey, who will choose not to buy a video based on the inclusion of male talent you don't like. Back in the old days of brick and mortar browsing, I can't tell you how many videos ended back on the shelf when I saw that Ron Jeremy was in it. I practically missed out on the whole Caught From Behind series. There are a couple of guys floating around these days that I don't ever want to see again and producers are wise to hide them in the credits.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. I never believed the whole excuse that the movies are all about the girls so why list the guys?

I won't buy a movie if I don't know the full cast!

There may be something to this.
However, I'd point out that:

(1) There are DVDs I do and don't buy based on the female cast too. It's called choice.

(2) The male cast is also important to me. Inclusion of favorite studs will encourage me to go ahead a buy something. Studs I don't like will generally leave me neutral (unless the whole DVD uses nothing but my personal duds).

(3) There are major studios (like Hustler) who don't show any names -- male or female -- on many of their products (Barely Legal series for example).

Overall, I tend to believe that the inclusion of male talent names would be a net plus.
I will purchase a DVD with new girls/girls I'm not familiar with based on the strength of the male cast (for example: Peter North).
I seldom skip a DVD with a girl or girls I'm hot for regardless of the male cast.

I have passed on DVDs where my hot girl is paired with one of my yuch studs... but you don't have any way to know that by studios simply including the names of the entire cast.

Hi,
So you are saying you´d rather buy a movie with "no guys listet" just to discover later that you probably got exactly a moview with guys that you did not want to see ?

I too buy movies according to the female cast... but if i find out about a scene with a guy i don´t like ... i have to think twice before getting the dvd.

Cube

P.S: I don´t mind Ron Jeremy :) there are guys i don´t like seeing much more

I'm not saying that at all. By not listing the male talent I can be ambushed. Everybody buys according to the females. Saying it is redundant. The fact remains that any woman you're interested in seeing will probably work for everyone and screw every available cock in porn. Like Ramsey, I'd rather have more information to make my choices with.

They should list the entire cast on the Box cover and on the title credits.

The gals are the Stars!

Some of the guys 'Negatives' are so high that the Studio prefers to not list them.

Some Studios just don't care what the public wants.

I agree that the studios probably don't list the guys in order to avoid customers thinking "I won't buy that movie when [male star] is in it". The problem is, though, that companies that think like this aren't very smart 'cause many people, including you and me, won't buy a movie if they don't know the full cast.

So, I guess the bottom line must be: List full cast on the covers! It's better for the customers and for the consumers.

I think not listing the entire cast hurts my chances of checking out a movie much more than listing the entire cast, and I agree with Den that the entire cast should be listed on both the boxcover and in the title credits. One of the things that always impresses me about Evil Angel DVDs is that they put the care into their movies to give a cast listing by scene so that you pretty much know who everybody is so that you can find more of them if you want to. At the other end of things I'm turned off enough by Stoney Curtis's repeatedly not giving the guys credit in his movies that it's kind of become the straw that broke the camel's back and I've passed on checking out many movies that were fairly interesting to me.

Attention ALL STUDIOS!!! It is extremely important to the
smut consumer that you list who the male performers are
that are fucking these Girls. We all know Porn is about these
Girls, but lets not underestimate choosing a Title based on
who is fucking these Girls.Example:I would pick up an IR
DVD to watch Franco Roccafort and Nat Turner fucking
a broad before watching Mr.Marcus or Tee Reel railing these
girls. This is why Red Light cornered the market back in
02 and the 03 days. They knew the value of male talent to
the consumer.

I couldn't have said it any better. I don't know how many WCP titles I had to let go simply because there was no male cast list on the boxcover and I was afraid to pick up a movie with Mr.Marcus in it.

This is the reason why I always ask for the full cast here on ADT in promotion threads. For me it's better that way.

The only guy that annoyed while watching him have sex is John T. Bone. A friend of mine said that watching Max Hardcore have sex could be off-putting because he looks like someone who escaped from an insane asylum. It doesn't bother to me watch Ron Jeremy have sex. I like the humorous things he says during sex scenes. His personality is the most appealing thing about him. I've met him several times and he comes across as a likable person. Tabitha Stevens, who is friends with Ron Jeremy, prefers to have sex with him over a muslebound guy who is arrogant. Tabitha has said on Howard Stern that her sex scenes in videos are just acting. According to Tabitha, she doesn't get sexually turned on by having sex while being videotaped. Tabitha does a good job faking like she is into the sex.

The only way guys have influenced me to rent a movie is if they are good actors. I don't pay attention to how good a sexual performer a guy is. If a woman is enthusiastic, I assume the guy is doing a good job. When I first started renting, I would rent features because John Leslie was in them. Talk Dirty To Me, Every Woman Has A Fantasy and Nothing To Hide are among my favorite of his acting roles.

I was surprised by the big deal made about Lexington Steele and other male actors leaving Anabolic. When I'm watching a Gang Bang Girl movie, I rent based on the girl that the guys are having sex with. I'm not going to look at a cover box and not rent the movie because Lexington Steele is not in it. At conventions, I have gotten autographs from Peter North, Ron Jeremy and Lexington Steele. I like certain actors but the women are why I rent the videos.

I like to know who the guys are, we don't often see their faces for that long and I'm not so good at recognising them by other parts - choosing and reviewing becomes complicated. I'd like it very much if there was a cast listing by scene as Astro spoke of.

I think for most of us it works the other way around.
We look at the cover and don't rent if a male we don't like appears in it.

We go for Vids because of the girls.

But we avoid some Vids when certain guys are in it.

The male cast never makes the pro decision.
But it can make the contra decision.

Juha,

I think you're correct. But I also think that guys like to see fresh guys in porn, not the same-old same-old. I've been known to reject certain titles simply because I got sick of seeing Eric Masterson, Steven St Croix and Evan Stone in every single one of them. That's nothing against the guys, personally, of course.

And, yes, the guys in porn films ARE important. If it wasn't for the guys, there wouldn't be porn.

There are exceptions to this. Rocco probably being the biggest of them, and there are several series based around specific male performers like Peter North, Justin Slayer, Mandingo and Lex Steele.
The biggest strength in RLD/PXP and the Anabolic of old is the male talent you can count on. It isn't about the directors and the women are the same ones being employed by everyone else, but they're paired with the best male talent available.
Given the opportunity for consumers to buy or not with more cast information, we might see some of the more unattractive and abusive neanderthals fade from the scene.

And at the same time, if the movie is a porn comedy and I see Steven St. Croix and or Evan Stone in it, there's a much better chance that I'll pick it up because I know they can act as well as fuck and will probably make me laugh my ass off. Even if it's a serious feature there's a better chance I'll pick it up because they'll probably be goofing in the BTS as well as doing a great job in the movie.

One their first posts, Juha and picman are right.

Burger places have 1/4 pounder, 1/3 pounders, 1/2 pounders. Nobody tells you how much bun they put in. For most consumers, this means crap.
The bun may be a necessary part of a burger, just like the empty space makes a cup a cup, but that's not the reason for its existance.

Oh, and perhaps the smartest thing I've seen for the cast on the DVDs rather than the boxcover (and I can't remember where I saw this) is a picture of the entire cast with their name on each of them in the group photo. When you click on the picture of the star you're given another photo of them with their name, a link to their scene, and a filmography of that star's movies with the company. This seems like smart marketing to me. How many times while watching a movie has somebody thought "Hey, _________'s scene kicked ass and I really want to see more of her / him.". Bam! Right there is who that person is along with a list of other movies to check out with them in it. What better group could you have to dangle your product in front of than somebody horned up and wanting more?

We guys are merely "props", so why take up sparse DVD sleeve space?

Having said that, I always list all guys both on the box, and in the intro/title of each specific scene.

Evil Angel seems to be able to fit it on the back cover for their movies without interfering with all the action showed there. Xin managed it with Cheek Freaks as well. I don't think it takes an inch and a quarter square. Looking at a couple of the DVSX back covers I have here I can see several spaces where it could be fit in without interfering with the action on the back cover.

They don't need to list them anymore because 99.5% of the time it will be either Manuel Ferrara or Erik Everhard.

I don't really need the names of the guys in the film, just a "Nick Manning is in this movie" warning stamp on the front if he is, in fact, in the movie. That's all I ask. Manning's forced, awkward dirty talk has killed more scenes for me than Steve Holmes creepy, awkward kissing.

How much space does it really take and the male guys at RLD/PX are actually the reason why I don't buy their movies and I buy Rodney Moore movies because I like him as a performer as a normal looking guy so there is a power of male talent, both negative and postive.

I keep those up because I think they're much more visible, being in a much smaller genre (virtual sex) with very popular stars, and because from what I've seen I think Anarchy makes a deliberate attempt to mislead consumers. Stoney Curtis, despite the volume of movies he puts out, comes off to me as being fairly lazy and not really caring that much about what he puts out as long as there's a facial in it. Anything else that takes effort, I don't think he really cares much about.

I don't see any reason not include the entire cast on the back of the box, male and female.

It annoys me to no end when they just have a few of the girls and none of the male talent.

Of course, I rent based on the female performer, but I also want to know what men are in it so I can avoid the ones I don't like (like TT Boy, for example).

What about the starlets with one names like Jenny or Stacey and they don't have a photo of her on the box how are you suppose to know who they are? they should have the Studs and Starlets with their last names also.

I wish they would include the whole cast on boxcovers. There are male performers I would avoid, just like there are female performers I avoid, but the truth is that I don't pay all that much attention to who the guys are, with a few exceptions like Rocco, and Brandon, and Erik Everhard, who always give good peformances. There are guys that I've seen in dozens of movies, veteran performers whose names I recognize, but I don't connect the names to the faces. Sometimes it's kind of hot to see a cute young chick fuck guys that I find repulsive. Makes me feel like I might have a shot.

Let's keep the topic on topic, and not start making large lists of people you don't personally like, which will get this thread locked quickly, eh?

Ramsey has a decent point with his initial topic, after all.

Whats up all- My assistant brought this tread to my attention, I know that I'm opening myself up to a lot of flack but 2 quick questions:

For those of you who aren't fans of me or my work...

1. what is it about myself that knowing I'm in a video would make you not buy or rent it.

2. Do you really pay that much attention to the guys? (because I never did)

Well, knowing that then thank you for asking.
I doubt I could pick you out of a police lineup so far.
For some guys, yes, and it's more often with black guys than others. There are many black guys (and Wesley and Cuntree Pipes definitely come to mind for me here) who mouth off so much and so loud that they seem to think the scene is all about them and not about the girl and what they're doing to her. Guys like that kill scenes for me, and yes, if I see a couple of them in a movie I'll easily skip it.

I can't speak for all of course but I just don't like the two companies you only seem to work for. Not sure why you should limit yourself like that.

Anyway, this thread is getting kind of off-topic because I only want adult companies to list the full cast on the boxcovers so we paying customers can make our own choice. We pay good money for it so at least we have the right to know what we are buying.

Tee, I know that someone put you on their personal list of guys they avoid but opinions on this subject are as diverse as any other. I personally have completely different opinions on who I want to see in a scene than Ramsey, who started this thread, but we agree in principle on the idea that male performers should be identified, And as a performer you should be aware that, yes, it's all about the women, but it's the male performer who can make or break the scene. If he's not up to snuff or a total asshole it doesn't matter how hot the chick is. The scene will blow.
Just on a personal note, I happen to think you're doing a good job.

pornologist,

I totally agree with you on some of your list and I can give you a few from my repellent list....

Tee Reel - I will address this with my next post.

Domineko - Just creepy all around.

Wesley Pipes - While people know how annoying he is on film they don't know he is 1 hex worse off film.

Bam / Mr. Bigg - The guy is a homosexual. Not saying that makes him evil. Just why would I want to watch him fuck a female?

Billy Banks & Cuba - No comment necessary.

Dwayne Cumminz, L.T., & Johnny Depth - These 3 are all just lame on film.

Johnny Thrust - Ummmm yeah. You know.

Others that belong on this type of list....

Juan Cuba - He is quite possibly the most creepy guy on film.

Brian Surewood - "The Garbage Can Man"

Lefty Larue - Wow! Is all I have to say.

Dirty Hairy - WTF!? Could companies find a nastier dude? He's like Juan Cuba in 30 years.

As usual AC, you just don't get it. Didn't Scipio ask people to refrain from making lists. And it doesn't matter who you find offensive and repulsive. We all have our own personal lists. This is about information that should be made available to consumers so that they can make their own personal decisions.
