You are an adult with 18 in the USA, but you can only drink alcohol with 21. But why are so many US porn sites asking, if you have reached the 21st birthday ? I always thought, that some southern states had stricter laws, that you only reached adulthood there with 21.

Hi,
I guess it is because the internet is global. In some countries you can watch pornh when you are 16 or 18. In others you have to be 21. To be sure that only adults enter a site you have to ask if you are 21, so you can be assure, that you're legally right.
Someone told me, that you can watch porn now in Australia at 21, but you can play at 18. Is this really true ? It sounds like an april joke.

I guess there is some stupid law.
I started to enjoy porn when I got internet, back when I was 10. It hasn't damaged me at all I think.
I just think it's hyppocritical that parents wants to deny their children to go online and look for porn, I think it's natural for kids to be curious about their sexuality.
Though I think that some young kids may can get damaged and perverted by watching hardcore, I mean it's not like normal sex at home.
legally, you can view porn on the internet at 18 in australia. you can purchase it at 18, but the sale of x rated movies is illegal in all states but not territories.

I can only say, that all australian DVDs have the "only for sale/rental if you are over 21+", but also the "all models are 18 years of age... § 2257 etc. blablabla .....".

in australia, there are 6 states and 2 territories, which are basically states, just have a different name. that's the northern territory and the australian capital territory, which is where the capital of australia--canberra--is.
i don't have an explaination for the text on the back of the abby winters dvd, but i'm not 21 yet and i have been into adult shops and purchased porn. they all say 18+.
Not really , here in EU we have Ireland who forbids ALL porn in their country, also it can't be bought from abroad , In England they have a law (or they're discussing it) by which porn can't be bought from abroad since it avoides their R18 restriction laws (censored porn go figure) Or outside of prn Germany's laws on cutting off violence in Videogames (not quite effective though) so theirs are censored and can't be sold in Germany but the same games can be bought from any other countries.

Whatever age, 18 or 21, they ask on a web page. It will not prevent a minor for clicking YES. The whole thing is stupid.
In Germany it is not illegal for a minor to watch porn. It is illegal for an adult to make porn available to a minor. Putting a porn tape in the VCR and tell the kids not to watch it before you leave the room doesn't prevent you from going to jail.
That's why mail order or internet porn is illegal in Germany. But of course there is no way to stop kids to watch foreign sites or order from the Netherlands.
I once tried to subscribe at PUAKA's site they have good material but it is often american movies with bad titles an a changed cover , so I tried to know what movies were in ,the site wanted a fax with a copy of my ID with a photo on it or my driving licence or my passport which of course I didn't
Nobody ever did and probably never will prosecute a kid for watching porn. It is the adult who makes it available for the kid who gets prosecuted.
That's why the whole are you over ?? makes no sense. It is no problem for the kid to click YES. It is a problem for the company who makes it so easy for the kid to cheat.
At the end it's all ridiculous anyway. I found my first porn when I was 11 and I loved it. I never felt violated.
Some movies on German state owned free TV caused me sleep problems. Porn never did.
