I know there's probably an obvious answer, but why do almost all pornstars use a nickname instead of their real name? I know in some cases it's so their family don't find out they do porn, or whatever. But I know plently of pornstars who's family support them, yet they still change names.
I mean, hardly any of the mainstream actors and actresses use different names than their real one. Why is it so common with pornstars?
[name removed] is a beautiful name... why change it to Belladonna? When a girl starts doing porn does she get told "you need a screen name"?

If I were going into the business, I don't think I'd need to think twice about taking a nom de porn . Reasons? Porn still is made up largely of the demi-monde, and I don't necessarily want my name and image to be permenantly and indelibly associated with that line of work (though I might not mind it in the here and now). Another reason is that I don't want weird fans like myself becoming obsessed and stalking me. It's not enough to have an unlisted number these days.

I could come up with more and better reasons if I weren't so tired. Till next time.

Quite a few mainstream performers use a screen name. Musicians and actors, authors and radio personalities, lots of people do. I don't think it's generally because anyone is ashamed of what they do, it's just to keep the general public from knowing your name and harrassing you. In some cases, too, a persons name doesn't necessarily complement their chosen profession.

I don't think it's just the pornstars that pick aliases. The video producers must have a hand in it as well. I recently came across a new star that has made just a handful of videos but has used a different name for each video company that produced the video.

The star I am referring to is Bellissima, well that's the name she used in all the 2 EA titles, Big Nat Tits #9, EuroHardball #21; Then I just found Nacho's Sex Thrillers (where she appears on the boxcover but no recognizible name credit) bet she gets a new name from Nacho; Elis in the RLD title Outnumbered; aka Alana in the Natural Wonders of the world #28. Oh, and I almost forgot, Alexandra in the bangbros.com website appearance.

This is clearly an abuse of alias if I've ever seen it. I really like this girl and I'm trying to find anything that she appears in. How can I unless you are an obsessed porn fan and are willing to scour the internet to track them down.

This makes no sense to me because the way I find porn to my liking is to follow the stars I like, much more than the video company. If these video producers were smart they would help out us slut-obsessed fans by keeping the names and stop this craziness.

One other opinion I have for the use of multiple aliases by porn companies is the attempt to project the fantasy that these are exclusive talents. This is most misleading and is an insult to those of us who watch way too much porn and aren't falling for this trick. Yeah we still buy the shit but the fantasy is lost on consumers like me.

Anyway my charge to you porn producers: CLEAN UP YOUR ACT! It's really starting to piss me off.

Besides the family issue you already mentioned, I think the big ones are CRAZY STALKERS and PRIVACY.

Ask almost any porn starlet who has been around awhile, and she'll have a story about some crazy stalker. Heck, ask almost any girl, and she can tell you about stalkers. It's just worse for adult starlets due to the nature of the job. Same deal with erotic dancers.

Same reason people on ADT don't use their real names to post.
It's fun, You can create a persona. If at some point later on you decide you "must have been on drugs at the time and have virtually no memory for three whole years," then you can blame it on your evil psychic twin and say that it wasn't you at all. Also, it may not be advantageous to let people know how to track you down so easily. Unless you want them to, in which case you can deal directly with them, Deep down, we all want to be Zorro -- or MLyons!

i think its almost a tradition to have screen names and its more of creating an onscreen persona. Yes some companies do have input into giving starlets names or even just helping them choose one. If i remember correctly randy west hepled name alysin chaynes, he originally wanted to call her alysin wonderland but thought otherwise. there is even a poor excuse for a game in which you can made your own screen name based on your past life, take the name of the first pet you even had for your first name and the first street you ever lived on. for instance i had a dog called dipper for my first pet and the first street i lived on was jenkins drive so my screen name is Dipper Jenkins. pretty lame huh , why dont you decide

Well some newcomers have no idea what to use as a name, so somebody makes one up for them, then if the girl likes it, she makes more porn, hence another name. Then she becomes really serious about it and thinks long and hard about a name. But lets say she's not serious about making porn and she picks whatever name comes to mind at the time. Just a thought.

Although I agree with the answers regarding safety issues....Performers also choose names that give them more crowd appeal. Like a sweet petite Janus might become a Jennie..There's a lot of birth names that just don't work all that well in porn

It really bothers me when sites state Porn actors real names. Porn performers are not like mainstream actors or musicians.

That's a pretty funny question coming from a guy named "Disco Stu".

While there is no problem with reviving old threads, asking questions to a member who hasn't posted here in 11 years probably won't invoke much of an answer.
