Another thread pointed out how much money Japanese women charge for porn shoots. In contrast, American women are practically giving themselves away. Isn't the going rate something like $2000? That wont pay for the rent and groceries, let alone the years of psychotherapy that might then ensue.

Supply and demand like everything else. Hillary Scott probably averages about $100 per dick.

the "going rate" is probably for top performers there, and there is something like that in the US, contracts.

beyond that supply, demand, and market saturation.

I don't think you have enough info yet to be making conclusions.

American women earn at least twice what they pay in UK, and in some countries you can get anal for less than a case of beer, plus we get to go on tv when we are done and cry we arent dirty sluts and people kive us money

I don't believe the salaries in Japanese porn is accurate. Just like the U.S. porn biz is supposively worth more than the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB combined. Everytime someone wants to check the books on these statements, they can't be verified.

Don't belive everything you read about porn.

The porn business IS massive. They're just very, very good at evading taxes. When the whole industry finally comes tumbling down, it'll be by the hand of the IRS not the Justice Department.

Isn't the answer obvious to everyone? American women do porn not for the money but for the opportunity to entertain and arouse ME!

I don't know that women elsewhere make any more than American women. If someone says so, OK but their word is about all I have to go on.

Personally, $2000 is quite a bit of money just to fuck (everything else being equal) and you consider, a girl can conceivably be working on more than one movie at a time, stripping, doing photo shoots. If she played her cards right, she could be making quite a lot of money.

Psychotherapy? Maybe...but only because we continuously bludgeon women over the head with the idea that there's something inherently wrong with fucking and that if they do it and enjoy it, they should be ashamed of themselves. And furthermore, if they do it, enjoy it and get paid for it all at the same time, they are the most vile, evil, terrible creatures known to exist. But not only that, but they are simultaneously victims who can only be helped by being first dragged repeatedly over the coals about it and then having multiple kumbaya moments on Oprah. Nevertheless, they will never be entirely cleansed, nor their record expunged. They will forever be reminded, at every opportunity, that society forgives them for the horrible, horrible things they have done. Society hates them, but it forgives them.....and it loves them.....as long as they never do it again and apologize every single day in some way, shape or form. I dunno. Why would someone who fucks for a living need therapy when we have such a healthy attitude and outlook regarding sex?

$2k for a scene is actually high for US, though more common than it used to be. I imagine girls are being paid about as much as the market can bear. I mean, the sex is rougher and harder in some regards and for those who want to tackle it, but especially someone who is 19 or looks 19 and is in good physical shape and make $20k a month or even more ... In my line of work, $10k a month is a very desirable professional wage, and $5-7k is more likely. Agreed, burn out is a threat, but a smart girl who paces herself is going to be able to earn $200,000 not even working 40 hours a week.

At $2,000 per scene, that would be 100 scenes in a year or 8.5 scenes per month. I don't think too many girls are working that often. The hell these women are put through in some of these movies must require time to recuperate.

I worked fast food for several years for $7 an hour and after a while, one day was (psychologically) like getting repeatedly kicked in the head by a gang of thugs for hours on end. And there was always the rest of the lovely week to look forward to. All for $250 a week (before taxes) if you didn't miss any days. No time to recuperate was given (whether you wanted or needed it or not).

At the time, if anyone offed me $300 to get fucked in the ass, spit on, slapped around a bit, I'd have taken it without question....much less $1,000 or more.

I don't think so, either. On the other hand, I recall a director mentioning in another thread that when he tried to book the hot new girl (sorry, I don't recall which one) she was booked solid for several months. That suggests that, if she's in demand, a new girl might do that kind of work. I can't imagine she'd get called for anything like 100 scenes her second year, though.

If they don't like the money, they can do something else that somebody will hire them for. Free country.
A smart woman can save quite a bit. With reasonable investing in diversified index funds, for instance, they can still live well and then live reasonably easy for the rest of their life.

Then there is the money they can make headlining, as fans get to know their name. The smart thing is to play it straight and report it all to the IRS, it just isn't worth losing it all.

For both of the above, they need to remember everybody gets old and their looks change. That is why it isn't worth going around and around with the IRS. A doctor can make more money, but you aren't hot forever.

Then there is the escort money. Being known is probably worth more.

But philisophically hell, why do people do any of the stuff they do for what they are paid? I had risked electrocution by 480VAC a few times when making only $35K and a nasty accident while making only $50K and I had no strong professional incentives to.

I maybe wrong but I think in Japan porn is more wide spread and accepted than in the US. I heard it’s on TV and sold in vending machines.

I think the Japanese porn stars are a lot closer to mainstream TV and movie stars than they are in the US.

How much money would some of our TV stars get for fucking in Jules Jordan or Jake Malone video?

How much would you pay to see Jennifer Garner down on her knees getting ass fucked by Steve Holmes in a high quality porn movie. For me $200 is not out of the question

Porn could be very lucrative for a girl if she’s smart and careful with her money. The film work should be just part time work. Feature dancing, escorting and fan signing are good incomes.

A mainstream job is not out of the question either. Really how many people are going to go up to a girl in your office and ask her if she’s a porn star? Or at youth league sporting event or at the super market.

If she doesn’t tell anyone or confirm it. All she has to do is deny it.

If she takes care of herself she can fly in to LA and make 15 to 20 thousand dollars and go back home.

That's a sweeping statement. Anyhow, even if the frequently quoted figures of the value of the porn industry in total are not completely bullshit, they are still misleading about the value of the production side of porn. I've heard that those massive numbers (again, assuming they aren't completely bogus) are created by including the rental business and strip club industry numbers. And porn production companies and porn girls do not make any extra money off of rentals or the regular business of strip clubs (though of course porn stars can make a lot on the feature dancing circuit). Porn companies are paid on how many copies of a movie actually sell, and apparently rental businessed don't have to pay any more just because one movie is a popular rental. It seems that most movies don't actually sell that many copies since so many movies are rented instead of bought by consumers.

Higher payrates would only work if there were both fewer movies shot and fewer girls competing to be cast in those fewer porn movies. There are just too many girls coming into porn and too many movies made for higher payrates to work. But hey, a girl can make thousands of dollars a month from porn movies alone, plus she can use the attention she gets in movies to go out on the road feature dancing for some big bucks and possibly start her own paysite.

I'll direct you to Buchwald v. Paramount regarding the accounting that goes on in the "traditional" film industry:

Buchwald v. Paramount

The same games go on in the porn industry.

The whole porn industry won’t come down maybe some company’s maybe even some major players. But there will be someone there to pick up the ball and run with it. The game will go on.

Why do you speak with the authority of an expert when you don't know what the fuck you are talking about? This appears to be your modus operandi no matter what the subject is.

Really, your link just served as an example of why porn stars will usually choose to take money up front over a share of a movie's profits. If they are even given the option to collect royalties at all.

You both missed the key issue of the case. Buchwald v. Paramount was a two part case. The first part is fairly uninteresting. Art Buchwald argued successfully that he had written a column that inspired the movie Coming to America and that he had subsequently been denied royalties. The second part of the case, which addressed the issue of damages, was far more interesting. This is where Paramount argued that the film had made NO NET PROFIT. Of course, this argument is preposterous. At the time of the case, Hollywood executives were crapping their pants over the attention directed at their suspect accounting methods. In this regard, Buchwald was far less a contract case than it was a tax law case.

What I quoted said that the Hollywood studios only used the shady accounting when dealing with people owed royalties. They used generally accepted accounting practices when issuing financial statements to the SEC and stockholders. Of course, it's a wiki article, but you're the one who tried to use it to support your argument.

Actually, I have no doubt that many in porn use creative accounting that may not be legal. But I've also heard that many times the porn studios are ripped off by the disc duplicators, distributors, etc.

If you would prefer to read the actual case, the cite for Buchwald v. Paramount is 13 U.S.P.Q.2d 1497 (Cal. Super. 1990).

I certainly hope he's talking out of his ass. It would be very, very foolish for people in the porn business (especially considering the government already has a hard on for them) to be fooling around with something like tax evasion.

Porn compared to other industries is actually kind of small.
I think there is probably some poor accounting in porn, but that is probably because of the buisness experience of some of the people. Going from being talent to eventually having your own line is a learning experience.

In the US the average for a non-contract girl's scene is $1000, and $1200 for anal.

Doesn't really sound like a lot when you first hear it, but working three days a week would not be a bad life at all.

And, this is still far more than girls in Europe or Australia get paid.

I didn't know that about Japan though...

If the female sex artist is an addict then its obvious to me that her aim is sex others see it as a profession paying the bills. Therefore they are more likely to be shrewd and if they have the goods they can charge what they want as for men like Ron Jeremy said his just a dick on legs merely furniture.

$2000.00 per shoot?

Then whats with all the attitude?
All too often, when I see Japanese girls getting sprinkled, by those lil smokie asian cumshots, they're whining like somebody's throwing sand in their eyes.
Has anyone else noticed this annoying, high pitched shrill?

They are paid to look like they are not enjoying it. A lot of the Japanese stuff is supposed to look like the girl is suffering a great indignity.

It is interesting to hear about how much pornstars are actually paid to do their scenes.

When you look at most businesses, they pay their talent the minimum they can get away with.

The fact that the money actually made from porn is not really transparent, I suspect this makes it hard for the talent to negotiate their payment.

They're PAID to whine, and snivel like that??!!

See, there's the culprit to that dilemma on wage disparity between these nations.
Unlike the corporate dominated, powers that be, here on our shores, Japan refuses to wholesale its domestic job market out, for cheap foreign labor elsewhere.
Hell, we've got a work force of contract girls, that could step right into those roles tomorrow, play THAT part for pennies on the yen, with absolute conviction, and would probably dodge a few cumshots in the process, at no charge, just for kicks!
