I buy DVDs/Blu-rays. I even buy the occasional CD when I come across something special or something that's otherwise unavailable. For some things, a digital copy will do. For others, I like to have a physical copy that's mine, mine mine. Even working in the biz as I do, sometimes I just have to have a physical copy of a porn DVD for my collection. Having it on a hard drive just isn't enough.   [Link] |
| mr_sphinx Member 117 Posts 10/08 | Posted - May 11 2016 : 7:41PM At this point, the only way that I would buy anything new is if it got a Blu-ray release, and since Adult Empire and Score are producing "Blu-ray" titles are using BD-R media (which I won't waste money on, since I could make them at home if I wanted to), I don't buy or watch anything new, really. On extremely rare occasions, I find an online shop that has a massive discount on a DVD of a title I've wanted on Blu-ray for years, but the footage has to have been out for years and filtered down to free previews before I see any of it. And since buying a DVD cuts into my Blu-ray budget, we're talking maybe 2-3 titles a year, if that. On the other hand, there are a number of companies whose titles I would buy regularly on Blu-ray. In fact, there aren't a lot of companies who I wouldn't buy on Blu-ray, now that I think of it, though most of the extreme companies wouldn't be my first choice, as I prefer what has derisively been termed "vanilla" porn. It's a sad state of affairs, but then, it's fairly obvious that porn simply doesn't want me as a customer at all, simply because I want something on the level of professionally produced content. Instead it seems to me that the industry is in a race to the bottom, coming closer and closer to producing erotica which looks and sounds exactly like what two amateurs with an HD video camera could accomplish--hell that's what a lot of the industry seems to be, nowadays. But I want my copy of Watchmen as a book. A quick Transformers series (All Hail Megatron!)... fine. Having access to it on my tablet or some such will do. VHS, DVD, BD, UHD, VOD. Unlike the porn industry that mostly stuck to video, Hollywood studios have their back catalog on film so they can always remaster it for the next format. Someone said in another BD thread, porn companies are missing out by not releasing anything on BD. Boutique labels such as blue underground, vinegar syndrome, synapse, arrow etc. make their money from releasing old movies on the BD/UHD format. Porn studios should do the same, re-release old titles on BD, yes the 480p/i video would suck but BD is so great that you can put SD, HD or UHD content on the format. The codec on MiniDV is mpeg2 which would be about 25Mbps so a remastered 480i video on BD would look slightly better with new codec and higher bit rate. A 18-20 Mbps AVC encoded BD would look better than a 3-5Mbps MPEG2 DVD. Not everyone wants to watch the latest porno, some like me would love to see releases from tt boy (black street hookers, brazillian big butt moms) and smaller studios that are now dead or did a limited run on their DVDs. Majority of studios form the 90's/2000's just stick their videos on hotmovies and call it a day. No remastering done, they just rip it from the DVD and upload it. I would spend money on a Blu-ray remastered set of Black Cheerleader Search. /rant [Link] |
