I was watching "The Private Life of Lea De Mae" and what could of been a great intercourse scene appeared really slow. It's like the editor/director (or whoever does it) projects it really slow with the actor/actress making sounds/grunts which appeared to be dubbed (as if their voices were added off camera). I really don't know anything about the porn industry so can someone explain to me why would a director want to do that in some scenes?

because deep inside he knows that he can´t shot decent porn and has to hide his miscumings with special effects, maybe (just guessing). ..btw, welcome to Adamo's world.

I must add that, in general, I don't care for the slo-mo and dubbed sound (which we older strokers used to know as "groan tracks") when they take the place of well-filmed real time action.

However...
In the hands of the masters (the true artists like Michael Ninn) slo-mo and dubbed sound used as part of the editing process can be incredibly good.

I especially like when cumshot sequences are shown in their entirety in real time AND are edited together to include slo-mo, montage clips and multiple-angle repeats.
Most productions don't have the budget...
And most directors and editors don't have the skill...
But, when it's done well, it can be spectacular!

It's called editing kids

In the hands of a master...
the shower scene from Hitchcock's Psycho runs less than two minutes onscreen, is comprised of approximately 130 angles/edits and we never see the knife penetrate Janet Leigh...
Yet, the result is perfection.

There are also scenes where the director takes elaborate pains to capture lengthy and difficult scenes (say where the character walks down the street, enters a building, enters an elevator, etc. all while carrying on a conversation) in one continuous real time unedited take (instead of editing it together later).

In other words, "I can't define when porn is art, but I know it when I see it."
