Because of a remark someone made in the racist thread about that Brazilian dude who used to do a lot of movies and suddenly "retired" (which is unusual for a young dude), I had a thought. Why do dudes drop out of the porn game? I mean it is an awesome job and yet if you think about it, you get dudes disappearing for a while. Some others disappear and then suddenly are everywhere. Anybody in the industry with some insight?
Mikey Butgers used to be pretty busy and suddenly boom he is gone. Have not seen him at all.
Kris Slater seemed to disappear for a while.
Chris Johnson was busy too then disappeared completely for a while then now shows up here and there but not nearly as much.
Why does a dude drop out? Or do they blacklisted? Jail? Disease? I refuse to believe a guy would quit porn for a chick so curious if there is some "politics" behind some of that stuff.
Why do dudes go nowhere for a while and then suddenly are every-fucking-where (see Johnny Castle whose career looked dead and now he is like super - yawn- busy)? Do they fuck the right BTS person? lol
We know where some of them went - some retired for old age (Michael J. Cox) or dreams of stardom (Jean Valjean), some went to jail (Jack Venice, Brian Surewood) but what are some of the WHET stories?

Relevant to some but not all: Believe it or not, it IS possible that you can have too much of a good thing, and whilst you may think getting paid to fuck everyday is a dream, it also has the ability to become routine, soulless and unfulfilling.
Scenario being: Everyday viagra'd up, walk into set, see bored crew, see bored-looking girl smoking, no conversation, no connection... scene starts, fake moans, meat grinding against meat, CUT!, change, repeat, struggle to cum, everyone angry and restless with you, cum (just about), girl you just fucked ignores you - races to wash your filth off her, get paid, go home, play XBOX, eat single meal, wonder how this came to be, repeat tomorrow.
And yes, it IS possible to leave for a girl... In this thread a few years back, julien1982, quotes Steve Holmes re. retired performer Jean-Yves LeCastel:
There are spiritual holes as well as physical ones.

I believe it is possible but let's face it JYL was quite old by the time he retired "for love".
I also remember that Tommy Gunn said all those things about the drabness of a lonely life of a loveless male pornstar in that documentary that was released a while ago ... and is still working hard in porn.
Snark aside, I know what you are saying. If CJ or MB retired (and then unretired for the first one) for a woman, I'd be shocked but it'd be interesting to find out.
I remember noticing Danny Mountain who was super busy stopped showing up in scenes for a while after he and EA broke up. He showed up again six months and is back working a lot. I had assumed he had been blacklisted because of the accusations that were flown between the two when they separated but who knows?
I just am fascinated by the concept of the blacklist to be honest with you.

^Yeah, blacklists probably exist and are a factor... it's like any industry really; behind the scenes politics, lack of fulfilment, doing something 'cause there's nothing else you can do, or until something better comes along.
All possible reasons why a job can suck are valid here; if you do something bad or are unprofessional, people won't want to work with you, and you can still feel shit despite doing something "desirable" or "glamorous" in other people's eyes.

Why do female performers routinely disappear with no apparent reason? Easy -- it's often a personal, and private choice. The vast majority of adult performers eventually just move on to something else, popularity notwithstanding.

In every field of endeavour, there are "dream jobs" and "perfect jobs"; but still there are people dropping out or quitting or moving on to something different. I never perceived porn as so perfect for the guys; consider the reality of it. Nobody in porn could possibly be genuinely attracted to 100% of the people they have to have sex with. And nobody in porn could possibly be genuinely "in the mood" 100% of the time they have to be on camera. And speaking of camera, how fun is it to have your greatest performances and your lamest performances, and everything in between, all captured on video forever.

UFO/Alien abductions and it's well know that female porn stars are the most sought after.

A while back Criss Strokes was one of the Brazzers mainstay guys (at nearly the same level of output as Kieran Lee and Johnny Sins nowadays), then disappeared from the site just about overnight amid members' complaints about his gay-for-pay exploits, wasn't to be seen almost anywhere for a year or so and then started showing up in nearly all of Jules Jordan's productions all of a sudden (and later also in Mike Adriano's for Bang Bros).
My guess is that sometimes a male performer's profile depends a lot on just a couple of directors, so one gig ending or beginning can have a huge effect on how much he gets to work.
Plus what's been said above about people dropping out or back in for any number of reasons.
