THIS question has been on my mind ever since the first time i sneaked a peak at my brothers porn video cover when i was about 9 years old. The women on the cover of the video cassette were so gorgeous you will wonder why they took up such profession. I want to know what other people feel about this, and more.
Deauxma is so hot.

Some people are just natural exhibitionists, some people want to be a star in some field, and think porn is the best way, or a mix of reasons.
Everybody is different, so it's important not to generalise, but there are loads of reasons girls might decide porn is for them.

You are all correct. Most girls like to experience several sides of their sexuality.

Well, for men, I guess it's pretty obvious. Though it probably sounds better than it is. Not many men can actually do it (including some of them who try).
For women, I honestly don't know. I'm not a woman so I can only guess. I think money is probably the biggest reason but something tells me that some part of them has to get some kind of enjoyment out of it. Yes. The money can be good (I guess). But most of them seem intelligent enough to do something else if they wanted to.
Could be the party lifestyle. You can't do that in just any job. If you stay out partying and show up a half hour late and hung over, most bosses are not gonna be pleased. I would imagine partying is actually part of porn culture.

Some probably think it's better and not much more degrading than working 9 to 5 for minimum wage. And then they discover that not all men in the business are sleazy perverted assholes, but some of those perverts are actually quite nice despite being such perverts. So they decide to stay for a while because at least it's a decent job.

Money, first & foremost. The other reasons are why they stay.

$$$ and attention as far as the females goes, many of the male performers are probably first and foremost in for the sex :P

Why do people get into porn?
“I caught you knockin'
at my cellar door
I love you, baby,
can I have some more
Gone, gone, the damage done.”

I think, we all share in whatever that answer maybe, somehow, imo

I got into porn because I wanted to crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and to hear the lamentation of their women...
And the money, I guess.

99% of women get into porn only because of the money. You might wonder why do gorgeous women get into porn? The answer is; even if only 1% of women were gorgeous that's too many for Hollywood and modeling/fashion industry to absorb. OTH 99% of men get into porn just to get laid, although the pay is a pittance.

There are probably many reasons. Some are acting out. Some are looking for a short term, high octane adventure. Some are looking to explore a side to themselves they've never explored. Some are sluts who are already having tons of sex so why not sell it. The common denominator in all this the ability to make money regardless of the motivation.
my 2 cents.

I joined the adult industry because I like nudity. It is freeing and fun. Sure the money is good, but if you do it only for money, you will last maybe a year tops. You have to actually enjoy it to last in this industry.

The women, especially the beautiful ones, get into porn because they're always so horny and want lots of sex. The money is just a bonus. Their only real desire is to satisfy and please as many men, women, transgenders and hermaphrodites as possible.

^ If I had to put it into a realistic order, it would probably be Money, then the sex, and then maybe, for some, the attention. If people didn't care about the money first and foremost, they would be posting their videos for free to tube sites, or maybe playing on a community like FetLife or NewbieNudes. Those people exist, for sure. The sex looks great in the end, but fact is, the starting and stopping for a director can really take away from how much you enjoy it. That's why my favorite sites to shoot for have been Kink sites, as Princess Donna is queen of the long take. The attention, I could personally live without and be totally fine. I actually enjoy a little anonymity. For other girls it's something they crave and they seek it desperately, and I think it can lead people into more bad positions than the money can sometimes. That's just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input Clayra, I figured that I probably got the order wrong, at least for most women performers. Though for the men I still assume it's all about the sex.

^ No problem. I like lifting the curtain, so to speak. The thing with guys is that they probably do get into it for sex at first, but then it does become a job. I know of at least one porn producer who gets calls on occasion from guys not because the dude needs to get laid, but because he needs the cash. They get paid less, sure, but how many other jobs can a guy say he made $200 in as two hours?

Clayra, was any of it for you or any girls you've known, a sense of Hollywood or glamour?
added: I ask, because it seems you often see new girls to the industry and they just seem to have a love of being in front of the camera. That love of playing to the camera is glamour feel to me , much more than a money feel.

^ Not really. Most porn isn't shot in places that really give you any sense of "Hollywood Glamour". The excitement you see is probably more of a rush from the thought, "Holy shit, I'm about to make a real porno and have sex with a total stranger in front of other people!" See, for most girls it's a collection of firsts. First time with an absolute stranger (we usually know someone more than 5 minutes, and even one-night-stands usually happen with people we've been getting to know for a few hours). Then there's the First Time on camera, which is something anyone who has ever been interviewed for the news gets to feel, and look at how stupid/nervous those people feel. First time fucking on camera is a little different than just "First Time on Camera", because in this age of camera phones and digital cameras, that isn't that new, but "First Time Fucking in front of Other People", that one trips all sorts of latent exhibitionist fantasies, whether a girl has had them or not.
But glamour? Not so much, and especially not if it's a small "studio" that's really an office, hotel, or producer's bed room. I've watched a couple of the Dirty Debutante series by Ed Powers, and the feel there each and every time is closer to the truth.
That said, if a girl starts our shooting for Vivid or Hustler, then "Hollywood Glamour" might apply, but I've never shot for either of them, so I'm only guessing.

The glamour and Hollywood was more a motivation back in the 70s when they made features, it was misplaced and unrealistic, but you do hear some performers talk about it back then.

I'm sure. Today, most people don't have any illusion about the porn industry. If anything, they're more cautious because of the bad crap that went down before. But with girls like me and a million others blogging about our experiences, there really isn't much mystery left, so it's mostly a means to an end. I've known a few girls who got into porn to get back at a lover/husband/relative, and at least one who did it because she was just self destructive (she wound up in rehab and got out of the biz), but for anyone that sticks around, it's always going to be at least partly about the money.

To expand on this, there seems to be quite a few educated, older women who leave professional careers to enter porn. From this I infer that money is not their real motivator but rather they're doing it purely for the thrill and to fulfill their fantasies.
The younger ones...who the hell knows what's going through their heads.

my emphasis
Who's fantasies are actually being fulfilled here?
I know mine are...but, although John's contribution may seem like a porn vignette, I understand many are based on true life experiences.
Often younger women (even inexperienced but naturally enthusiastic 18 year olds) enter porn because these older educated professional women introduce their daughters to men making movies in motel rooms. Given there is nothing else to do it's hardly surprising that these horny beautiful educated professional older women decide to upskill their scantily dressed daughters in fellatio technique and other sexual practices. The daughters really love this and are grateful to their mothers for the career guidance. Sharing a random man's penis is a sign of this gratitude and bonding.

I assum that most of you men who are guessing why women get into porn have the false assumption that girls HATE sex and that it feels icky to them and that it might even physically hurt them.
Actually girls LOVE sex. Chances are, if some guys desire to do something to a girl, there are girls willing to have it done to them. So whatever fetish a porn does, there are going to be females that love it and males that love it.
Some girls love the fact a camera is on her and she's being watched butt naked getting fucked hard.
Some girls love the positive attention.
Some girls LOVE being dirty little sluts.
"Why do gorgeous women get into porn?" Well first of all, only about 2% of men and 0.5% of women would pay to watch an ugly girl get fucked! Even more so for an ugly 45+ woman trying to do porn!
There ARE girls that watch porn and a lot of them think to themselves when they watch porn when they are about 15, 16 "I wish I was that girl!" Almost just as much as a lot of guys say, "I wish I was that guy!" when they see a pornstar fuck a hot and cool girl like Bree Olson! Or if u were from the 90's, like Lacey DuValle, or if u were from the 80's like Christy Canyon.

There is so much that is plain wrong about this.
Aside from the hand-waving of an activity that is unlawful practically everywhere, unless this pseudo-social scientist is a 15 or 16 year old (and shouldn't be posting on this site at all) then then only way, as an adult, his claims could have any evidential basis is that he is regularly participating in situations where a statistically significant cross-section (a lot) of minors are being exposed to pornography and are being asked, by him or other adults, whether they like it.
Or a statistically-significant number (a lot) of female pornstars have, in private, shared their personal herstories with him.
Otherwise he's dreaming...

I've said this before in a few other threads....
Except for the stigma attacted to it I've never thought making mainstream/legit porn is such a bad gig. The money can be nice, you get to be made up and play act, you can build up a fanbase of people who like what you do and tell you so, you get to meet some interseting people, and you get paid to do something that feels good and you were doing anyway.
Sure, there can be some down sides but if you just accept it for what it is and surround yourself with people who are open-minded it seems like it could be a fun way to make a living. I read some of the posts from some of the girls who post regularly on this site and they seem to enjoy it and look forward to shooting new scenes. If a girl is goodlooking and/or sexual I think it's a great career move that allows you to take advantage of those looks or skills for pretty good money.

First of all, most people go to work everyday because there's a paycheck attached. Accountants, nurses waitresses, lawyers, investment bankers, etc don't usually work for free. Porn is no different. And just like a regular job if you love what you you'll be successful. If you don't love it, you'll get drained/depressed from doing something you hate everyday--but you might stick to it because you have no other options for survival.
Mainstream modeling pays almost nothing unless you're a very tippy top runway model. See: http://www.tnr.com/book/review/pricing-beauty-making-fashion-model-ashley-mears. It also requires a very specific body type and look which most people do not have. I love that porn has a niche for everyone---from literal midgets to Amazon women.
Personally, I initially needed some money, saw an ad on Craigslist, figured "I like sex, I don't mind fuckng in front of people, this could be fun" did a scene, loved it. Did a few more, had a great time. Realized I'm an exhibitionist at heart and totally get off on getting naughty for the world to see. Plus I get to do stuff---orgies, gang bangs, etc---that I would never get to do outside of porn. And I have the time and financial stability to pursue the other things I want to accomplish in life. Granted, there are downsides, but as a whole I feel incredibly privileged and lucky to have the job/life I do.

I am not talking about a "survey" type thing, I'm talking about a REAL LIFE type thing. An 18 year old girl would not have to WISH to be "that girl" in a porn because she's already old enough to do it. Have you NEVER been to a real school and heard girls talking to each other? Or listening in on your sisters or cousins all girl night?
And yes minors are exposed to pornography. It has been that way since at least 1900. That's the way it has been.
Do you think a girl would admit to a SCIENTISTS that she wants to be a pornstar? HELL NO! Most likely a teenage girl would tell a scientists or any adult for that matter that she wants to be in real estae or a lawyer or some thing like that.
Do you honestly think that a girl that wants to get into porn decided that on her 18th birthday? NO, it doesn't work that way! Kobe Bryant didn't even decide he wanted to be an NBA player on his 18th birthday, he wanted to become one when he was a kid watching adult pro players get paid for it! And if the girl DID "suddenly" decide to do porn ON the exact day of her 18th birthday and went out for it on that same day, it's not a smart move because she would have not put enough thought into it.
