Does anybody have a theory why Vivid doesn't have a free site that promotes their stars and movies. As soon as you go to Vivid they want you to pay. You would figure they would be smart enough to create a web site to promote their products. Red Light and Zero Tolerance have one. I have no idea when Vivid's new movies come out. I use adultdvdempire or gamelink to find out about new Vivid releases.
Vivid's ways are mysterious. But it's not just Vivid, a lot of companies have websites that suck in terms of providing information for consumers (Digital Sin/New Sensations is another bad one and Wicked's site is not very good either). Obviously, what they want is to get your money, but I can't see how providing decent info on their releases would hurt their dvd sales. To my mind, the best company website is Evil Angel: they have a clear release schedule and plenty of trailers. And I don't think they're doing badly in terms of sales. I dont't understand why others aren't following their example.
So honestly. I think the idea is they show you as little as possible unless you pay for it. The idea seems to be that if they show you just enough to tantalize you, you'll join their site (which you can't do without paying for it). Unfortunately for them, this only works a limited number of times on a limited number of people. If a company doesn't provide good sample material for me to chew on for a while, they ain't getting my business. I'm not even going to waste my time.
Wicked Pictures' website is the LAST place I go to find out about Wicked upcoming releases. How fucked up is that? They have very little info on pre-releases. When I visit that site, I'm flooded with the cheap, gross porn products like toll numbers to hear sexy Wicked star sexploits! lol Random chicks for cyberchat. Live sex couples for cam. And the layout is far too busy. Just too much stuff on the homepage. I have no idea how long it's been that way, but they seriously need to revamp it. It looks cheap and amateurish.

People care about Vivid? I always thought they were a load of offal.
Yeah, it really is amazing. Vivid and Wicked are two of the biggest companies and have two of the crappiest websites. Wicked's site was actually even worse some years ago. I think that the explanation is that they make a lot of their money through cable-distribution deals and selling comps to casual porn buyers. And they don't see the internet as a marketing tool, they see it as a potential salesplace where they can get money without any middle hands.
Is this the DVD release site for vivid? If so it hasn't been updated since october, and I'm assuming that they have some movies in the pipe line, that IMO they should be promoting with a release date...
As far as I know, that's it. And there's nothing there that you can't get on sites like ADE or Gamelink - in fact you can find more on those sites, like pictures and trailers - together with better info on pre-releases. But the biggest problem for Vivid, I think, is that they're slipping in terms of marketing their contract stars. They used to be the home of the big contract stars, but nowadays they seem to constantly fail in establishing their girls as stars and not just random performers. They could do a lot better and to offer some free content can be a way of building up anticipation for the content that you're going to charge for, whether it's vods or dvds. Also, if you don't even get to sneek a peek, you might start suspecting that the stuff really ain't worth your time or money...
I do think they recognize the internet as a marketing tool which makes their current site even more annoying. I had forgotten about this before but if a flick is one of the big fall releases, Wicked will create a website dedicated to it. There was a site for Operation Desert Stormy and another for Coming Home. But you won't see a trace of it on the main website except perhaps a banner ad with the release date.

Try the Vivid Superstore for current/future releases with street dates, trailers, boxcovers and pricing and ordering information. It's comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date. As for you fans of the Wicked Contract girls here's a suggestion. About four months ago I googled one of my favorite retired starlets--clicked on a wicked.com link and was pleasantly surprised when I gained access to 1000s of her softcore/hardcore/pretty girl photos and photos of other Wicked girls as well. My only guess is that sections of Wicked's paysite are unencrypted--no access to the VOD though.
It's not that we can't find release information. It's just that its perplexing that pre-releases are not promoted on these huge companies' sites. Its as though I could only find information on a Sony TV at a Best Buy or Circuit City site and when I search for info at the Sony site, I find nothing on their new TV. That would be a bit odd, would it not?
Wicked updated the look of their site. Definitely an improvement, but IMHO still far too busy for a homepage. Plus they have that goofy, semi-desperate "look at us. aren't we so fucking cool and hip on the red carpet? We are, damnit!" 2007 promo clip on autoplay. Here's hoping for a less pretentious, more genuinely beautiful 2008 clip.
The only product Ive bought by Vivid in 2007 was their wall calendar. (for 2008). Very nice photos, but no longer nice movies. Even the covers of the movies dont catch my interest. They dont have interesting stars anymore.
