I'm curious, about one of my largest pet-peeves when buying a new porn DVD.
Why are there still new DVDs being produced that don't let you go immediately to the menu screen? It really pisses me off whenever I plug a new one in, and I have to sit through the FBI warning, Production Company titles, etc. before I can access the scenes! Not all companies do it, and sometimes only certain releases from a company do it.
There are instances where, no matter how hot some of the material within the movie might be, I'll throw out a DVD just because that particular aspect torques me off too much. I bought the new Jennnifer White release from Devils Film and I may reconsider buying other product from them, because this seems to be a trend. Red Light, 3rd Degree, Zero Tolerance, and Elegant Angel seem to be really good about allowing you to skip to the menu though.
(hopefully, this follows etiquette, I'm not disparaging Devil's Film's scenes - just not the overall format - IMHO)

Sometimes you can discover a "trick" to bypass that stuff. Usually involves some combination of stop, skip, and menu buttons. But there is no universal trick that works for every DVD.

I'm talking about those DVDs (like the one I mentioned btw) that you can't even fast forward through. Neither menu or fast forward works, and it pisses you off just a little every time.
~ Just a suggestion to producers out there - make the menu accessable!

^It's not a mistake or oversight, they are purposely designing the DVD that way, forcing you to endure the FBI warnings and previews and ads and whatever else they decide you shouldn't skip.

That's what computers are for. Edit and delete the crap you don't want.
To make the FBI warning suitably scary, they need a pic of J. Edgar Hoover in a dress.

It's not just the porn industry. Many publishers force trailers on you. Until it gets to the menu, you can just get yourself a drink, hit the bathroom, or try a little foreplay if you're watching with a partner.
If you're watching on a PC and using something like Media Player Classic, you can usually bypass all the BS and get to the main menu.

^I have never had a DVD, movie, television show, or porn, that did not allow me to skip through the previews some way. I guess they're out there, may have rented one or two I'm not sure.
I love my PS3 and how it remembers the exact place I stopped at the last time I played a DVD and automatically starts there the next time I play it. Doesn't matter if it's weeks or months later, it will be right there at that exact spot. No FBI warning, nothing. Such a convienence. Though a few movies I have it did not work for some reason.

As someone in DVD Production, I can tell you most DVDs are authored so that pressing STOP-STOP-PLAY will get you there in a hurry.

BTW. I've run into this problem on some mainstream DVDs as well, such as some of the Mythbusters DVD sets make you sit through the "Discovery Channel...entertain your brain" Ed Harris bit before you can hit fast forward or the menu option.

You're right about those mainstream dvds Algaliarept. Here in the UK there's a few major companies that put similar restrictions on their dvds and they're getting worse. It used to be that you couldn't press SKIP CHAPTER to bypass each and every trailer, so you had to use FFWARD which would take you to the trailer end before starting the next. Now they're disabling FFWARD, even PAUSE! I think the last one that really got my back up was Saw 6. Those problems above seem to affect my living room dvd players only. Using my PC, I don't get such problems :)
