I've rationed my neurons, therefore I was able to reason that another aspect of testing was to keep "you" from infecting other performers.

Condoms never bothered me when they first made their way into porn (they used to be everywhere, remember?). The barbarians buy huge amounts of these pre-holograms.

The biology science officer told me that this sexing is somewhat analogous to our mating.
But while our act of mating is thrilling, inspiring and mind-boggling, even if we watch holograms of the act of mating, the pre-holograms of the barbarians, however, are dull and repetitive beyond belief.

This sparked my interest.
Why would people pay for such dreck?

What makes it yet more interesting is the fact that they produce many different, but yet identical versions of these pre-holograms with different performers.
The amount of different pre-holograms produced in 100th of their standard lifespan is so big, they couldn't watch it, if one would elongate their lifespan by the factor 1000.
What makes it even more mysterious is, that the have whole industries to produce this utterly boring dreck of pre-holograms.
What a waste of resources, we might ask.

Another interesting thing is, while the barbarians teach to use the rubber thing when sexing, they don't allow the pornstars to wear this, at least in an overwhelming amount of the recordings.

I mean even the barbarians enjoy their act of mating, because you probably wondered, what strange behaviour to pay people to mate.
I mean it is incomprehensible for us, why we should be paid to mate. Why paying someone to enjoy something?
The money they pay them, is a compensation for the risk.

With a little research I found out, that they monitor the pornstars on the event when one of the pornstars transfers the agens, which is responsible for their recent plague, from the whole population to the subpopulation of pornstars.

But why do they do all this?

At first I thought this whole porn thing would be their primitive equivalent of our culture of erotica holograms.
But even these primitive barbarians can't consider the repetitive dullness of their so called porn erotic by any means.

As of now the theory which seems to be most likely is, that the barbarians bet on the date when the agens enters the subpopulation.

So maybe this is some kind of death lottery.
They attract "active" players willing to sacrifice their health and life and the "passive" players bet on the time of the outbreak. The "passive" players actually sponsoring the "active" players.

But this does not explain the vast amounts of pre-holograms.

Maybe these pre-holograms are the lottery-ticket?
But why not make one issue of the ticket?
Despite the similarities in the pre-holograms they differ slightly.
Why this waste of resources?

Probably that is a second chance for the "passive" players to win.
Whoever has the scene of the spreading of the agens into the subpopulation on his pre-hologram, which serves also as the lottery ticket, is eligible to claim a second category prize?

Such explanation fits well with the level of depravity of the savages.

Another theory so far is that we just watch the emergence of a new religious cult.

The followers, or the "passive" players of the death lottery, mourn when a priestess, an "active" player, contracts the virus.
But there is also a vociferous outrage, if a priestess performs the ceremonies with rubber, which would prevent this.

The explanation in the "death lottery" theory would be, because the "active" player is cheating and avoiding death, hence diminishing the enjoyment of the "passive" players.
But maybe even these barbarians are not so depraved, although I would not count on this, as you probably know from my former reports. Seldom have we encountered a species which can match the innate brutality and worshipping of cruelty this species exhibits.

Most of the religious cults known in this species are based on sacrifizing their own species members.
Test of gods they often refer to tragic events, plagues catastrophes.

So maybe this is an attempt to placate their gods.
While the population says "use the rubber" to protect itself, they fear they might irate their gods, because they don't take part as a whole in this test of their gods.

Accordingly the pornstars should then be viewed as priests and priestesses, who take the test of the gods as a steadholder for the rest of society, thus purging the whole population.

This would explain the repetitiveness of the content of-preholograms.
Because all other religions use repetitiveness in their religious ceremonies and meditations, also.

When we investigated the content of the pre-holograms all was centered around a thing the barbarians call the "porn couch".
Other religious cults set up buildings called churches, where the followers attend the ceremonies; the center of the ceremony being called the altar, where the priests make sacrifizes.

This new cult apparently records the ceremonies and sends them to the followers, instead of inviting them into buildings.
The prize the followers pay for the recordings on pre-holograms have thusly to be considered as donations to the church.

So the pre-holograms show ceremonies about the nature of life and death, and a pledge to spare the followers from the plague.
Hence the outrage when a priestess acts against the true meaning of the cult and uses rubber.

My dear colleagues, be assured we will further investigate thes barbarians and their despisable habits and cults.

I hope in my next message my staff and I have solved this intriguing mystery and can rule out either the "death lottery" theory or the "dislocated unified church of gonzo" theory, or maybe we can unify the two theories, to explain this repulsive behaviour of sacrifising sophonts, which even these barbarians with all their shortcomings are.

I won't further investigate the theory that this pornography could be a primitive equivalent to our erotica.

I mean could you imagine that an avid watcher of erotica-holograms, would demand that his adored idols undergo the risk of getting an potentially life-threatening/shortening disease.
This is another point, besides the dullness of the content of the recordings, which rules this theory out, even taking in account the high level and fascination of violence of this species.

- They have sex although one of them has been tested positive. I won't comment that one.

- They were both tested negative but the test result was incorrect. That is uncommon, and with running the test twice it's as good as impossible, though I don't know whether these test are done twice

- They don't get the disease by contagion, but out of the blue (I mean, someone must have been the first to get a disease, and if that could happen back then it still can now, no?)
