So much porn is made on shoe-string budgets today that many directors/camera men have no idea what they are doing. They don't know how to direct the performers to be creative or set moods. They only know how to shoot a formula. Their formula doesn't include lube play. I'm sure there are other reasons, too. I'm pretty sure of these ones.

I agree that we should see some lube application in porn scenes. I think it adds to the realism. That said, there are some really good water-based lubes out there that only require a single application. When the water evaporates or gets absorbed into the skin, all that's need to reactivate the other ingredients is a little more water to slick it back up. Saliva will serve this purpose just as well. Adding more and more lube on top of itself will only make it stickier. Again the water will evaporate and absorb, and you'll be stuck with a thicker layer of glycerin, which is a sugar alcohol. So don't assume that the performers are fucking sans lube. All that spitting could be serving the convenient function of making already-applied lube slippery again.

Vaseline is petroleum-based, and therefore should not be used with latex; will cause the latex to break down. Something to be aware of. I read somewhere (don't remember where) the lube used by veterinarians (for cows/horses) works well for human bigtoy/fisting play.
