All top notch companies put trailers of their upcoming films on their DVDs, why doesn't Evil Angel do it? They have the best of directors at their expense, if you go to their web site they have the release dates of their movies from 2 months ahead, yet no previews of their stuff. Anyone knows the reason behind this?

Some of them do, and I think it's by director. Christoph has some on his DVDs and John Leslie usually has some on his DVDs.
Tricia Devereaux will have a better and more complete answer.
trailers take up alot of space on a dvd, I figure i'd rather use the space for extra footage. I have always liked trailers on dvds, but they seem to get old after you've seen the same trailers on every dvd anyway.
AFAIK, Christop Clark dvds do not have trailers. In my experience Jonh leslie is the only Evil Angel director that offer them in his dvds.

I'm actually with Jules on this one.
Trailers on a website might be okay, but on the DVD they don't do much for me.
If I'm into buying a series, then I will usually simply buy them because I like the producer/director and his style of presentation. So if there is a trailer on the DVD, I will probably either have it already, or be getting it shortly from my wish list. So if I'm going to buy that series, I don't need the short short stuff in a trailer because I will have the full blown scene to watch.
Also since I now have the full blown scene, I would prefer extra footage or Behind The Scenes, things tht will not be repeated on a later edition in the series.
There is a value in trailers to give someone an idea of what's contained in a movie, but IMO the DVD is the wrong place. I have also been burned by watching a trailer and then buying the movie, only to find out that they have done a good job of editing and getting the two or five seconds in a scene that looks really hot only to find out that in the twenty minute full blown scene, it's still just that two or five seconds tht is really hot.
That's my two cents anyway.

Wally,
I'm going to have to check. I would swear that some of the Beautiful Girls series have trailers.
I'd personally like to see some previews on EA disks. Especially since I really want to expand my collection past the Jules Jordan, John Stagliano, and Rocco stuff I have now. I'm just not too sure what to buy though. Perhaps EA could do something like a one or two disk trailer only DVD type deal. Have it be free at shops or $3-$5 ordered direct and it could feature a plethora of trailers/previews from all the EA directors. I would really appreciate something like this. Then again, I ain't quite right in the head.
maybe I'm wrong but after watching a Hustler dvd the other day (The ProfessiAnals) looks like the space is more than enough for both, the Hustler dvd has trailers and is also packed with extra footage (i have never seen so much extra footage in a gonzo dvd. No even Evil Angel) ...and the video quality of the main video didn't suffer at all, actyally it was very good. So I wonder why a top porn company like EA can't do this also. For me the Hustler dvd is the proof that it can be done if the porn company is willing, in my opinion.that won't happen if you update the trailers every once in a while, Private does it all the time. The trick is in the number of trailers, keep it low, 4 or 5 is more than enough. Just don't do like RedLight that puts like 20 in all their dvds. ..just my 2 cents.

Since I've answered this question several times, I'm going to keep it kind of short.
Right now, we are racing to get out stuff out as fast as possible, keep it simultaneous, and keep it high quality.
We only have one in-house editor (John-O), who in a couple months is going to be doing exclusively Christoph's stuff. We haven't found any other editors that we like, and it's not for lack of looking. That unfortunately means that we don't get many trailers edited. We hope that at least for the websites, that will eventually be able to change, but for the DVDs, I'd rather go with a longer running time for the movie, and more extras. I haven't seen Denis' movie yet, so I don't know what the running time is. I can tell you that we keep the total video time of our DVDs at the point where we feel comfortable that the picture quality represents our product well.

Your loss
The movie is about 2 hour long, there's a long section of solo masturbation scenes, an interview section, a behind the scenes, a photogallery and they still managed to get some trailers in (six trailers if I remember correctly).

I'm repeating myself here but I don't see why EA doesn't put say at least 4 short trailers per DVD : they are missing business opportunities !
Many times I have purchased a DVD based on a trailer I saw, otherwise I probably wouldn't have purchased it... I don't subscribe to studio websites or even visit free studio websites, so trailers on the website are useless to me and probably a large majority of porn consumers.
Another way to do it is to issue free DVDs with only trailers on them, you put that with your feature DVD or sell it separately at a low price, throwing in two or three full scenes.
Private did that and it worked well for them I believe...

I've been intending to see it, and will eventually get to it.
If it is 2 hours long, our movies (especially Jules') are 2 hours 20 minutes or longer, if they're a Director's Cut for the DVD. The 20 - 30 minutes longer for the movie is most likely the difference in time that allows for their trailers. We tend to have 20 - 30 minutes of extras and behind-the-scenes. We also have the fetish menu, which for the time being, still takes up space on the DVD, but our authorer is doing their first test title of seamless branching for the fetish menu so that it won't take up additional space from a separate encode.
Like I said, I'm not against trailers, but if it's a matter of taking up space or quality from the other things, I'd rather leave trailers for websites. And that, we will hopefully be able to do in the future.
I think trailers are a waste of space. It's better to use that space for extra/behind the scenes footage. I don't want to see a trailer because it spoils it for me once I get the original movie because I have seen things before and I want to watch a movie all fresh.
I would like to see more behind the scenes stuff ,but not when it reduces the excellent picture quality .My opinion is that evilangel DVD's have the best picture quality from all companies .

Wally,
Tricia has already answered but I did randomly check some of the discs.
I swore, and I was wrong. Guess I should give up swearing.
The trailers I was thinking of was another John Leslie series.
I personally wouldnt want trailers, if theyre like the ones ive seen before (John Leslie). Although i wouldnt say they spoil the dvds (that they're for), but i much prefer to watch a scene from start (tease) to finish. The trailers are kind of like skipping to the end of a scene straight away, i think.
If a trailer was just tease (not the actual sex) even if the girls were clothed that would be good and would make me want to see more.
I'm not too familiar with the technical aspects of putting couple of trailers on a DVD and the space that they would occupy, but if space is an issue, how come RLD has like 20 trailers, in addition to behind the scenes and extra footage on their DVDs? How do they do it.
I don't think having 2 or 3 trailers of upcoming or recently released features on a DVD, which each would take probably 3 minutes, could really hurt the overall quality of a DVD. But again I'm not an expert.
But the trailers on Red Light Movies basically consist of the opening credits of the movie. That's it. They're not creating a real trailer in the sense that Private creates trailers that are a few minutes long and essentially give a "Reader's Digest" verison of the movie.
Evil Angel opening credits don't typically show clips of each girl. So to do what RLD does, EA would either have change the way that they typically show their opening credits or they have to create trailers from scratch.
If the editors were sitting around bored with nothing else to do, I'd say "Great, go make some trailers". But it doesn't seem to be that way. If creating trailers from scratch is going to take time away from getting new DVD's onto the market as soon as possible, then I'd rather not have them.
..for me a trailer like that would be a waste of space. What more tease than the pictures on the dvd's case? ...in my opinion trailers help sell videos if they give me a good hint of what I gonna find in the actual movie. This is not Hollywood movies we are talking about. The last thing I want in a gonzo video is to be surprised. ..just the other day, I saw a Jonh leslie trailer where I saw Nikki Belluci doing anal in one of his videos (I don't remember the title) ..my point is that the first time I saw this specific video with Nikki at the videoshop I didn't buy it 'cos the pictures on the dvd case didn't show any anal with her. ..1 week after, when I saw the trailer.. I got the dvd the next day.

JJ, good post, I would make one suggestion for anyone who reads this. I'd like to see an extended clip from an upcoming release. Maybe a 5 minute clip of something I ain't heard of yet. If you do that, we get something hot and fresh straight out the oven, and you don't risk oversaturating the market with the same stale trailers release after release.
You're assuming that the next release has been shot and edited prior to the mastering of the current release. With EA, I'd be willing to bet that, more often than not, that isn't the case.
With some companies, there is a very long period between the time that a movie is shot & edited and when it is released. I don't believe that is the case with EA movies.
This sounds like a 50-50 issue. What we try to do with the Hustler DVDs is feature trailers which are relevant to the movie (ie other Woodman titles on a Hustler XXX or Ghetto Booty trailers on the Snoop Dogg releases), and refresh all trailers on our DVDs at least once a month. We think there's value in showing customers other products we have that are similar in style to the movie they bought.
EA clearly places great value in offering a great deal of additional content, and this approach is also a good one.
As Wally mentioned, we think we struck the right balance with The Professianals: plenty of extra content and also trailers/profiles, all encoded at the highest quality bit rate possible. Of course, it also requires a director (like Denis Marti) who is prepared to go the extra mile for the customer.
As a follow-up to the previous post (and not wanting to hijack an EA topic), the Denis Marti example was purely illustrative, and not a promo for the series or for Hustler.
In fact, all EA directors seem to go the extra mile for the customers, and it shows in the success of their movies.
