This was part of a post regarding anal lubes and oil based lubes from Fetlife. The OP was having some problems and we figured out it was probably due to the lube they were using. I wanted to post it here for future reference in case anyone had questions about why oil based lubes are bad for sex. If oil based lubes do not bother you, fine. But keep in mind you also have a certain responsiblity to your partner as well and should tread carefully when introducing a new type of lube.

The lube in question was Doc Johnsons Anal lube but it applies to ANY oil based lubes. Animal, vegatable, mineral, petroleum.....it doesn't matter. Not only do they break down laytex condoms, they also cause other problems.

So here it is......

Doc Johnson Anal Lube has been around for ages. People assume that because Doc Johnson has a good reputation that it must be safe to use. It's not. They've never changed the formula and it is a WELL ESTABLISHED FACT that petroleum based and oil based products are not good for vaginal and anal sex. Why haven't they changed the formula you might ask? Because it sells. Why does it sell if it's bad for you you ask? If a company is still making money from a product, they are less likely to change it and if they don't change it people think it must be safe to use. This is why tooth bush companies still make medium and hard bristle brushes. Because people still buy them even though there is no dentist worth his degree that recommends them.

Here's why it's bad for you.......

Petroleum and oil based lubes stay nice and slick and they don't dry out.......BUT they also make a moisture barrier. Now that's all well and good for your skin after you shave or get out of the shower and you want to trap moisture in your skin. Or when you have a rash and you're trying to keep excess moisture and contaminants out, such as fecal matter and urine on a baby's diaper rash. HOWEVER, they also trap bacteria under the oil keeping it against the skin. This causes skin to become irritated further. With the skin on the outside of your body (such as a baby's bottom) it's possible to cleanse the area very well before applying Vaseline or something like A&D Ointment. But that's a little harder to accomplish in the rectum and vagina even with an enema or douche.

Now when it comes to your genitalia, two things happen.......
In the vagina, that bacteria can cause baterial and yeast to grow resulting in bacterial and yeast infections. Vagina's are not self cleaning and douching will not remove oil. (They also upset the natural flora in the vagina which will eventually bring you back to square one with another infection.)

The rectum however, has it's own way of dealing with things that don't belong there. A mucous is excreted which is supposed to help the body rid ITSELF of the irritant. This in turn causes the person to get a case of slimey shits. It's also a good way to cause the rectal lining to become dry and irritated even further, which also in turn causes infections, which in turn causes the shits.......Do you see where I'm going here?

So unless you like yeast infections and bacterial infections, you want to stay away from oil based lubes for sex.
