| Pete Zaface Senior Member 3064 Posts 8/03 | I'm really incredulous that so many people seem to be surprised that so many porn stars are escorts on the side. I think a lot of that is probably based on a lack of understanding of how the escort business is conducted nowadays and how easy it is to mitigate the legal, financial and physical risks, and even to do so under the radar, without publishing any ads or having any reviews posted. (A discussion of that is outside the scope of this thread, at least for now.) To me, the question isn't why a porn star or any other girl would turn to escorting; it's why any girl would do porn when escorting is also an option. Granted, most of these girls probably don't have the career options available to a lot of people. But they do have a future, whatever it may be, that could foreseeably be clouded by their current choices, not to mention family, friends, etc. If they choose to make some money having guys they don't know splooge all over their faces, why not do so in a more private setting, one that offers both deniability and the opportunity to move to another location, rather than having a permanent, commercially available record of their activities? A woman charging $300 an hour (not unreasonable in the Dallas area for extremely attractive or extremely talented or extremely both) seeing just one client a day for only 15 days a month can pull down more than $50,000 a year. Multiple clients in a day, multiple-hour sessions, overnighters, and working more frequently (even going so far as to offer blowjobs and handjobs for reduced rates when you're in the physically-unable-to-perform list) can only increase your gross income. Even if you're operating above the radar, it's a lot easier to deny that that blurred-face photo on eros.com is you than it is to deny that that's you making a visit to Gangland with five homeys. Why get throat-fucked and gangbanged by a bunch of misogynistic parolees in a warehouse when you can at worst do the same things behind closed doors where no one else will ever know about it, or at best share a glass of wine and proceed at a leisurely pace with a guy who's happy just to be in the same room with you? If you want attention, some form of fame or glory, you need to go for porn. It doesn't have to be hardcore porn, but you're going to have to get public with your naked self somehow. It lasts forever. When you're 60 and somebody's granny, you can still take out that old boxcover and know it was you. Stripping falls somewhere in the middle, I think. You're not typically nationally famous, but you may be locally recognizable. It's not real hard to walk away from dancing, either. You did it for a few years in college, nobody remembers you, there is nothing left over but a keepsake garter in the back of your panty drawer. |

If Simon Cowell tells you that you're shite, or you can't get noticed by Hollywood, it's your other option. Let's not forget the powerful force of exhibitionism. If you were a hot chick who loved to fuck, and have people watch you do it, then why not do it for a living? There must be a damn good reason, there's so many many young chicks getting into porn these days. Maybe it's porn is becoming more socially acceptable. How the fuck should I know? I'm just some drunken OAP knight in a retirement home in North Yorkshire, Great Britain. I had my fun and that's all that matters. Edited by - kensington chapp on 1/20/2008 2:32:27 PM |

| Dave_K99 Member 497 Posts 12/07 | I don't really get it myself, but many people do seem to see a moral difference between performing sex acts on camera and simply being paid for sex. That's bound to have an effect on how potential sex workers perceive the worlds of porn and escorting. |
| Pete Zaface Senior Member 3064 Posts 8/03 | And when you're 35, your teenage son's friends are cruising the Internet and find the same box cover. I guess it's the whole mindset of why any reasonably attractive young woman would do porn in the first place that I don't understand. But throw in the fact that the same woman could make more money over a longer period of time, with greater control over whom she does what with and WITHOUT having permanent, commercially available records of the visits to Gangland, Ed Powers, Max Hardcore and the Anabolic warehouse made, and ... well, I just don't understand why you'd choose door no. 2. When choosing to do porn, is a girl simply ignorant of what such a decision can mean for the rest of her life, simply naive in thinking it'll never matter, or fully cognizant of what the ramifications might be? |

| Kimi Lixx Senior Member 2012 Posts 6/01 | Some performers, like myself, don't have any problem with everyone in the world seeing that box cover. By whatever concatenation of circumstances, we're able to be open and honest with the people around us and not lose anything important to us while gaining that attention and "fame". Escorting, whether it is more lucrative or not, isn't going to get us what we want. Additionally, escorting carries one very real risk that performing in porn does not. I am not going to get arrested on a porn set. I could absolutely make a date with an officer and be set up for a sex offense. No amount of claiming that I am not accepting money for sex and that payment is for time and companionship only is going to save my butt. Even though prostitution is only a misdemeanor, it does bring with it the sexual offender tag. For at least five years, you register and anyone who wants to know knows, and indeed in some cities they post the pictures of the sexual offenders in the newspapers. If my picture is going to be in the paper for having sex, I want it to be my box cover picture. My make-up is way better in that than the average mug shot. |

Without needing to fuck any old random escort customer. of course, it only works for some, but it's certainly an option. I believe Nikki Dial is still making good money as a dancer. When did she make her last porn film? Wiki says 1995. |

| Dave_K99 Member 497 Posts 12/07 | As crazy as it is, it doesn't really surprise me. I've seen women exposed as prostitutes in local papers before they've even had a trial. They're guilty until proven innocent, and even if exonerated in court the accusation is bound to stick. Hard to see how anyone could justify affecting someone's life like that for a victimless crime. Don't most of the anti-prostitution people consider all the women involved to be the victims rather than criminals? I guess that's one of the reasons why some escorts screen clients so carefully, calling potential clients at their workplace for example. I suppose the police could set up a dummy company and do some acting, but would they go to that much effort to catch a few independent escorts? From what I've seen it's brothels and street prostitution that are targeted where I live. Every year or so there'll be a story in my local paper about a raid on a brothel, with escorts continuing to advertise their services in the back of the same paper. |

| GreatGooglyMoogly Member 26 Posts 6/04 | a) As an escort, as somebody said, you can get arrested. b) In most cases (at least with a legit porn studio), you are working in a safe environment. Generally speaking, you're going to know the people producing the film and whom you're having sex with, at least well enough to establish a slight level of trust, in advance. And for the most part no one is going to beat you up, rob you, or worse. c) You are also in control of what the other players in the scene are going to do, and at least to some degree how they'll do it. If a scene is going to involve something you don't want to do, you don't take that job. Not nearly so much as an escort. Don't want the guy to do it hard? Uh, good luck getting him to ease up if he doesn't want to. Want him not to grab you? Again, good luck. On and on the list goes. d) Although there are no 100% guarantees, in porn everyone is tested. Any girl who's smart isn't gonna want to have even safe sex with someone who is infected. Condoms are not 100%. In porn, they've got much more of an assurance that the guy (or other girl) is clean. And this gets back again to the level of control the girl has in porn vs. as an escort. Want to use a condom? As a porn star you can control this. As an escort, you can try to control it but I've heard stories where guys who are insistent on (rather stupidly, IMHO) not using one have found ways to trick the girl, at least for a moment or two. My friend is constantly dealing with this sort of stuff - trying to keep it safe while the guys want to do all sorts of stuff that are not safe, and they'll use trickery, manipulation, or worse to try and get their way. e) Most of all, I think its an issue of frequency. If you don't like having sex with strangers (and lets face it, most of these girls probably do not), you're going to want to do it as infrequently as possible. So I'm not totally sure about the economics of porn in terms of what the girls get paid, but I suspect its sufficient that to make a given amount of money per month, year, or whatever, they'll be doing less undesireable stuff than they would as an escort. Now, I can think of many reasons you might want to escort rather than do porn, not the least of which is that when you decide to quit, not everyone in the world will know what your last career was. | WardqueenJanine Member 914 Posts 2/08 | Why do pornstars do it? I've never stripped but a GF of mine tell me that the pornstars who also strip as "Feature" girls often escort on the side right in, or close to the clubs. They vary greatly also and she has told me stories of specific pornstars who were so preoccupied with fucking in the back room that thy missed as set and eventually were never asked back. Some have degenarated into up-scale street hookers and I could tell you the names of some but I wouldn't want to spread and flames here. |
