Why is there such a trend for tattoos with American sexworkers? I refer to the women who are camgirls, strippers, escorts and adult video actresses, spending their time flipping between the different things depending on each person.
Here in the UK, tattoos are traditionally associated with people of lower socio-economic status. Those who culturally identify as working class. When people of middle and upper middle class see someone who is heavily tattooed, they make certain assumtions about them and in certain more genteel environments, the individual will (at least inititally) be regarded as an outsider, rough, or simply the wrong sort. Is it broadly the same culture in America?
My theory on porn tattoos:
I know how girls who move into porn movies have sometimes been recruited from camsites or worked in stripclubs prior to porn. And how a significant amount can recount recount childhoods and sexual attitudes that were much more rebellious and adventurous than what i expect the average in the US to be. As a population of people, porn workers arent typical in this regard and that is not discounting all the performers who speak of modest, ordinary upbringings and attitudes.
Additionally, many performers lose their relationship with at least one parent when it becomes known they are shooting porn. So you've often got to be the sort of person who doesn't G.A.F. and is willing to risk jeopordising things on that level with family and friends. To me, this tallies with the sort of personality that is willing to cover their fingers, neck , whole arm in tattoo's. Or even consider walking into a tattoo parlour.
I have deliberately omitted my opinion on whether i like tattoos or not not because i don't want this to be a forum member conversation about who likes tattoos in porn and who doesnt. I saw there have been other recent threads for that. I want it to be be about discussing the reason for the prevalance of tattoos in the population of women who perform in American adult movies.
So what do you guys feel are the factors behind the trend of tattoos in porn?
