I'd rather not put anyone on the spot, but there's a couple girls that I like, and they had pretty good runs for a while... but now they can't find work. One has openly talked about it via twitter, blog etc, the frustration of not being able to get work. They are both attractive woman so, I don't know why producers don't want to hire them? Just curious, what are common reasons for this happening?

I'd imagine there could be a lot of reasons... some of the more common could be :
1) Model may be difficult on set. Sure, they may be gorgeous and down for anything but working with snotty models is a real turn-off and with the abundance of girl's in porn these days, why bother with a bad apple?
2) Model is shot out. These days, porn is more about the churn and burn... meaning the demand for fresh faces is greater than shooting the same model over and over. Maybe she shot with everyone and they just aren't looking for retreads at the moment.
3) Financial issues with the studio. Porn is everywhere for free these days. Studios aren't making the money they used to. The smaller guy is getting weeded out. This has a trickle down effect. Models suffer like the rest of us.

- model's appearance is only suitable for certain niches and she's been shot by all the producers working in that niche
- model's "do" list is short enough that she's been shot by all the producers interested in it and she didn't make enough of an impression to warrant repeat bookings
- model is just not that pretty to begin with and producer interest in her is limited
- model significantly changed her look (tattoos, boobjob, etc.) and she's no longer what producers are looking for
- model was flaky or otherwise unreliable (e.g. bad hygiene), pissed off some producers and word got around the business
- model turned in some very unimpressive performances and/or came across as though she doesn't actually want to do porn, and word got around the business
- model pissed off somebody at her agency and they're no longer working to get her work
- model isn't living on the West Coast and isn't attractive enough to attract producer attention for the limited dates (possibly on short notice) that she's able to shoot
And probably a dozen more potential reasons I can't think of right now. Not saying any of those apply to the girls you're thinking of, of course. But in general, I suspect the overwhelming majority of girls who used to get work but can't any longer fall into either the "shot out" or the "blackballed" categories.
Edit: I need to type faster, JH beat me to it.

Can't find any work at any price? Or can't find work that meets their requirements of what they will do, who they will do it with, and what pay they will do it for? There's a big difference.

It really sucks for the girls and her fans. And it's probably worse than ever now due to the growth of the internet.

The industry is monopolized if a girl is not a favorite of the bosses or has strong fan demand they don't last and customers are the biggest losers.

If she doesn't have strong fan demand, how are the customers the biggest losers?

The customer who happens to be into the girl who is blackballed is the biggest loser. These girls still have options if porn doesn't work to their liking, many of them just go into stripping/dancing or escorting and never look back. The customer won't get to enjoy her anymore.

I'm not really losing out if I wasn't a fan of her in the first place. So if, as you say, she had no strong fan demand then the consumer as a whole isn't really missing out. It's one thing if you want to argue about girls that never really got any traction but this is in reference to performers that did get a significant amount of work at one point.
True, but if the performer was blackballed for good reason (difficult to work with etc) then if she wasn't blackballed then the producers could end up being the big loser. Since the producers are the ones making the decisions they are probably okay with moving that risk to the customers.
Some of my favorite performers back in the day were evidently batshit crazy wackos on set. Once I found that out I pretty much assumed I wouldn't be seeing much more of them. (and I was correct)

The mistake is thinking being hot is all it takes to be successful in porn.

You put it very well... shalalin
yet there is one more reason which is very important for a girl's career. Us! You, me and all other audlt viewers who post in the site or in the social media can determine at one significant grade the future of a certain pornstar. And this is because we keep reminding the adult directors about the availability of the female actress and our appreciation for her raises the possibilities to get hired. We are power! We really are!
So it is very wise for all adult actors and actresses to make their presence here evident in order to remind us about their existence and gives us reasons to support their career.

^Yeah, there are many threads on the star crossed section of girls so beautiful and it surprises me that they're barely getting attention. Then I realise that they barely use social media at all, but then there's others who use it to their full advantage.

Talking about it as only hiring and work is what probably explains their unemployment. It's a wrong frame of mind to approach making porn with. Because porn-fans want to see some real chemistry, lust, and passion, rather than just work. You can't make good porn, when it's just work.
The lady needs to make herself popular among porn-studs to succeed in the porn-business. Because there are a lot fewer guys in porn, than there are women. And this means that porn-studs often get to choose the ladies for their scenes. Mike Adriano certainly picks his ladies and nails them too. And there are a number of other such directors aka porn-studs in the business.
Most porn-studs are very experienced older guys, who know how to fuck. They know how to nail their lady, so that it looks good on screen. But they need cooperation from their lady to let them nail her the way they want. And this is where the young lady either makes herself popular or not.

If real chemistry, lust, and passion sounds horrible to you. Then hardcore porn isn't for you.
But gentle, soft-core porn isn't the most popular kind of porn, especially among guys. Perhaps female porn-viewers prefer romantic type of soft-core.

Real chemistry, lust and passion sound great to me but that is not what you were describing.
What you are actually describing is a hard core porn business where the woman's focus must be on following the "studs" direction while being a convincing actress; providing the illusion of "real chemistry, lust, and passion".
A female porn producer, director and star who was married to a porn "stud" once said that she would sometimes have to stop in the middle of their real love making to remind him that they were not on set shooting. This is because what we men find sexually arousing visually is not the same as what in reality turns women on mentally and physically. The idea that a women can't be successful (at least according to you) in porn unless she makes her life solely about the needs and desires of studs in a male dominated industry is what I think sounds horrible. You also mentioned Mike Adriano as an example of the guys that females in the porn industry need to become "popular" with in order to stay employed. I've stopped watching his films long ago because it's more than evident that his ego driven scenes are all about him, his control over the females and that's a boner killer for me.
If you want real chemistry, lust and passion then you are more likely to find it watching girls who are into girls in their personal lives getting each other off in front of a camera.
fyi hardcore solo female masturbation/all-girl porn does exist (gaping, ass-eating, prolapses, fisting, extreme insertions, enemas etc.) I found Kink's "Squirting MILF: Veronica Avluv anally fucked and double fisted!" to be extremely hardcore and no "stud" was present or required. Talking about real chemistry, lust and passion; I'm surprised that she didn't pass out from all of those insane orgasms.

Lust and passion in porn? Seriously, you actually believe that lust and passion exist in porn?

Another reason for not getting work is that the girl might limit her repetoire to M/F only, not do anal, DP's, or I/R, or has been completely shot out on all of the previous. I mean, is there really a difference between DP #10, and DP #25?

I will have to agree with Rosco. It makes sense. Having a bigger repertoire of sexual actions raises the possibilities to get hired for various thematic titles. So being able to do IR, anal, DP or lesbian scenes can potentially give you more work from different companies.
Now DP#10 and DP#25 can be so different as with Anal#15 and Anal#30. DP is a sexual action, like anal or plain vaginal or lesbian sex, that can be committed in different ways, by different male partners and directed in different style. For example a HardX DP scene would be a lot different than a 21st sextury or Vivid one. Likewise Jules Jordan, Dogfart and Pierre Woodman use different directing approaches. Then again if the scenes are identical, are committed by the same cocksmen and with short time margin one with another might risk to give that repetitive impression Rosco ia talking about.

How 'bout this theory: There's too many girls in the industry and not enough work to go around. I think we the fans here on ADT may overestimate just how big the industry is, as in there aren't as many studios (i.e. employers) as we imagine. In addition, you have studios, like big bad Brazzers, who insist on heavily using the same girls, as evidenced here (Brazzers Female Pornstars Listed By Number of Scenes); the page shows that they have 7 girls that have done 50+ scenes for them (there's a bunch more who are at 40+). Then, you have the fact that numerous studios have "downsized" their DVD releases over the past year or two, where the standard movie release used to contain 5 scenes (performers), you now have many movies that just give you 4 scenes.

Perhaps you and Dan are closest to being right. Less demand for porn workers + porn producers in their comfort zone only working with their personal favorites over and over again = "why some pornstars can no longer find work"?

Since they posted to twitter a public forum you would not be putting them on the spot.
Possible they got blacklisted because they were unreliable or hard to work with.
Maybe they just don't look hot enough. Could be lot of reasons why.

I've a big fan of a milf who has been in porn for about 8 years.
I asked her why she wasn't making porn movies any more. She just does her website stuff.
She was frank. 'I don't get asked.'
I was staggered. She's so hot.
What a waste.
