I just have to know; it seems like every review and quite a few message forum topics slip a quip about about how the scene was ruined by a tattooed chick or how they hate a pornstar because of their body art. I also hear complaints about piercings, which is and isn't a seperate issue. To me its different, I know to some its one and the same....

On a personal note, I am completely covered except for my ribs and thighs (which is my next project.) I really desire to know what the turnoff is. Thus, I am extremely curious as to why the general disgust? My fiance, and both my last exs had full sleeve tattoos (you know, like janine, but on both arms.) Is it because it conveys a trashy look? Does it appear masculine? Is it threatening because the chicks have some amount of personality and want to empower themselves beyond being a barbie doll? Or does it detract from natural beauty? This, I think would make the most sense in a open-minded kind of enviroment like ADT. It just strikes me as odd that people who love porn are so apprehensive to see alternative looking women. Maybe the fantasy is shot if the chicks don't look like the 'a' typical porn star. I really want to hear some answers. Let 'em fly!

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a flame war or a insult barrage on any one star.

Maybe its regional or cultural. Being from a big city and hanging out exclusively with tattooed women and men for my adult life, I could not imagine wanting to be with women who aren't heavily tattooed. I understand completely why people hate it; its definitely not for everyone. But, maybe the expert porn fans here at ADT can shed some intelligent light on the subject.

Thanks to anyone who posts on this; its much appreciated....

Speaking just for myself:
That doesn't sound like a question that's really in search of an answer, does it? I personally don't think that having a tattoo instantly confers "personality" on a person. And the problem is that far too many people think it does. Sorry, you can't go out and buy "individuality" or "personality" -- it comes from within.
For most people (certainly for me), I'd say this is the issue. Also, you have to consider the quality of the artwork. A lot of tattoos are poorly rendered, pointless in content, and end up almost disfiguring, IMO.
Again, I think you're projecting a value judgment that's probably not accurate. We're not afraid of them, we just don't really like the way it looks. Sometimes aesthetic taste is just that.
This is your worst argument... because the typical porn star these days has multiple tattoos. You can't really argue that point, can you?

I'm not virulently against tattoos or anything. Some of my favorite stars are inked, and i've dated several women who had them. But it's so trendy and universal now, I almost see it as a sign that a girl can't really think for herself and is going to hop into any current fashion that comes along, even if it's permanent. Count me among those who believe there are millions of 20-year-olds who will regret the ink in 10, 15 years (along with the millions, of course, who knew what they were doing and will have no regrets.)

I don't want to get in a rant here, but what the hell...

[rant]

I don't like them for one reason... EVERYONE'S GOT ONE, or so it seems. I know five girls who I went to school with, they all were petrified scared of needles, but yet they went out and got them on their lower backs, a place that I've heard hurts like a motherfucker.

Tattoos used to be on sailors, truckers, tough men, and some tough women, bikers (Harley riding-bar wrecking types, not crotchrockets), and overall people who you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.

Now it seems that business men/women, celebrities of every type, millionaires, wallstreet-types, executives, CEO's, presidents, all have one.

Fuck, no more rebellion in a tattoo, it's gotten to the point that hey, you got one, congrat-u-fuck-u-lations, whoopee. You just permenantly marked/branded/scarred your body for life, or until you undergo the painful removal process.

[/end rant]

So?

I guess you can say I don't like 'em.

Well, since you asked for opinions, hopefully you won't consider any opinion that is negative toward tattoos as a flame.

I don't just dislike tattoos on porn stars. I just plain dislike tattoos. I have never seen a tattoo that I have liked. I think that having someone draw permanent pictures into your skin is just a dumb thing to do.

Except for the first sentence, I completely agree with ObiBong's last paragraph (Obviously, I am virulently against tattoos). To some extent, for many people (not all people), tatoos are currently a fad. Unfortunately, unlike Leisure Suits, Earth Shoes, Mullets, "Flock of Seagulls" hair, etc... tattoos are permanent.

I am very glad none of the fads of my youth were not permanent. At a 20th high school reunion a couple of years ago, they had a slide show of candid photos. I can't imagine how horrible it woulf be if the clothes or hair styles that people were wearing back then were permanent.

Why silver-plate that which is already gold?

He who adorns himself with tattoos to accent his beauty defeats his purpose - the result is a distraction; he whose body art is intended as a distraction succeeds - he is lost in the background of his canvas.

As to piercings - I'm not even enamored of pierced ears - much less anything else.

The vast majority of the so-called "body art" one sees on porn performers (and the population at large) is about as "artistic" as 1970's airbrushed van murals, or one of those paintings on black velvet of dogs playing poker. It's beyond me why anyone would want to go through life with these trite, ugly, stupid scribblings permanently affixed to him- or herself.

I will give some credit for originality to whoever the very first chick in the world was who had the idea of combining very low-cut jeans with a lower back tattoo, for the maximum "look at my ass" effect. But all those who came after this unknown broad are just followers, and in a few years those tattoos are going to look as trashy and imbecilic as beehive hairdos seem now.

I am jealous. This expresses my thoughts more clearly and eloquently than I ever could have done myself. You can bet your ass this is a new quote as well.

I just have this to add: tattoos and pierced pussies usually don't age gracefully. I have seen enough low-grade German porn to be able to make this statement. Well... maybe I should start watching high-scale German porn instead.

As someone with a tattoo (and totally happy that I have one) I should counter your eloquent comment with:

Perhaps your canvas is so exquisitely painted as to stand on its own; mine requires an ornate frame to distract the eye

SNP.

PS, just to break the habit of a lifetime and address the thread itself, I accept some people like tattoos and some don't, but some of the anti-tattoo brigades remarks can appear unnecessarily nasty. I often mentally envisage some sweaty guy struggling to type and control his mouse over his hideous beer gut informing me how 'Miss X' has destroyed her body with tattoos and 'fake' tits.

To SNP and others:

You are welcome to your tattoos. People get tattoos for many different reasons - probably as many different reason as there are different tattoos. And tattoos can certainly make a statement.

I could say that I have many friends with tattoos (and I would say but I won't but I can't because I already have - does that makes sense?) but that is tantamount to saying that I have many friends who are gay or black or whatever - a singularly elitist form of racism. The truth is that I do have friends with tattoos. They seem to like their body art just fine, so its okay by me. However, I've never really seen the point. I certainly don't think less of them for their adornments but the ink has nothing whatsoever to do with their attractiveness as people - only as objects. And that is my point.

I'll also add that the most amazing and fascinating tattoo I've ever seen was one of a snake on an acquaintance. Its tail was on his left arm. Its body wended its way around the arm, across his neck and shoulder, under his right arm - coiling around his chest, shoulder blades, abdomen, the small of his back, and hip - ending at his groin where the snake's body fully encompassed his uncircumcised penis. Retracting the foreskin revealed the snake's head, complete with beady little eyes and mouth lines that extended horizontally from the urethral opening. And I'll admit that the artwork was magnificent: every scale almost glistening with color and detail.

And if you really want to know the truth, that snake is almost the entirety of my memory of him - and that is sad.

P-Knuckle,

I am not totally against tattoos, I have seen some that are quite nice. But those I like also tend to be smaller and more discreet, not the body covering bill-boards that some sport.

You have already alluded to my reason for not liking them, "it detracts from the natural beauty".

My opinion anyway.

It is apparent that you are culturally acclimated to tattoos P-Knuckle. Most of us aren't. They carry neither religious nor tribal significance. Rather, they mark the owner as different and raise questions as to their purpose. Is he/she hiding some defect? Is he/she advertising membership in a different group? That kind of thing.

One can get used to a tattoo, but it is certainly going to be the focus of attention upon acquaintance. Now, consider that when I'm with a woman I want to look at her , not some piece of art she brought along. I suspect I'm far from alone in that. So, can you see how frustrating a tattoo can be on a porn performer? It is a distraction if nothing else.

Furthermore, not only are we being asked to overcome a distraction from our desired focus, but we're asked to make a judgement (yes, we really are) about the tattoo. Do we like it? Do we hate it? Who knows, who cares? We just want to see beautiful women and (nod to GS) men having hot, nasty sex. Why boggle our lizard brains with these issues?

Thank you, Sir Noel! That gave me a good chuckle for the day. I've often wondered too why far too many of the male 'performers' in porn are downright creepy, often old, overweight, balding, and not the sort a woman would sleep with without a hefty bribe or being drunk/drugged.

I realize most of the videos are targeted at male audiences, but I'd rather see a tattoo anyday on a buff male body than a gross hairy beer gut banging against some poor girl.

My only gripe with tattoos is that so many of them are crap -- I wouldn't draw them on a pizza parlor napkin, much less permanently on skin.

I'm not fond of tattoos on women. Their skin is so beautiful so why cover it up with ink? While one or two isn't too bad most people seem to get carried away once they start.

I don't have the foggiest idea why the strong inclination to get tattoos, but I assume it must be strong since so many have them nowadays.

For me, as regards to porn, I absolutely adore the natural hues of pure flesh. Whenever I see a newbie totally unadorned without any colorful distractions my wood perks up mightily. I never miss a Melanie Jagger scene cause that natural flesh is so luscious. I just watched a scene with a newbie, Fallon Sommers, who is also very luscious, and then she gets into cowgirl position and there is this huge distracting something covering half her back.

As for real life, I really don't care. My last girlfriend had quite a few tattoos and they didn't really bother me.

But P-Knuckle, I would like to hear what you find so attractive about tattoos, and why they are superior to natural flesh, since you seem so passionate about them.

Lady Lust, this was the line of Hardwares that got me laughing:
I have this image of Hardware shaking his head whilst his hot date struggles to hold up a large painting she has brought along for the occasion!

Seriously though, a tattoo is very much a part you and, for good or bad, cannot be described as just some piece of art you have brought along. After all, a piece of art can be easily disposed of, a tattoo is to all intents and purposes just as permanent as any other bodily feature.

I also don't like tattoos on porn stars (or any other women) because they distract from beauty. Also, I don't like the idea that tattoos are trendy these days. It's like with piercings (another current trend): There's no more shock value in it.

Hey, nice to hear all the comments. Of course, my intial question had some strong opinions, because I really wanted to hear strong answers. Keep em coming, the only question I can really answer for me was- 'what you find so attractive about tattoos, and why they are superior to natural flesh'

First, I hate bad tattoos. And in porn, as also in basketball, I see a lot of horrific tattoos. The only woman in porn who comes close to having really good work is Janine. Really well done japanese/bold american style tattoo work I find incredibly sexy. I don't think women with them are superior to other women, I just find heavily tattooed women very brave, bold, and sensual. Also, its a hobby and topic that we can share. Much like if you enjoyed sky-jumping and met a woman who shared the same interest.

I don't want to talk about my feelings though, I find everyone elses opinion much more informative and entertaining. I made the statement,
'I understand completely why people hate it; its definitely not for everyone.'

Its very interesting to me why people have such a strong distaste for it. Your opinions are all well taken; I hope to hear some more....

I don't dislike tattoos in general on people, nor do I dislike piercings in general on people. I don't like however that so many performers have them, especially when I am watching a feature film and the tattoo or piercing doesn't fit right with the scenario or plot. I just wish there was more of a balance of performers with tattoos and without.

To be bluntly honest and boldly displaying my WASPish and genteel Southern upbringing (and my age), my limited exposure to tattoos early in life was that they generally adorned people deemed much less than desirable as acquaintances. Dispelling that stigma is quite possibly more difficult to overcome than other types of prejudice; as, in spite of their popularity today among a broad cross-section of the populace, they can still be something of a warning that all is not right with the world.

Scipio - thanks for the link!

Some very good comments here, just wanted to thank everyone for being so civil on such a potentially heated topic!!!

My personal opinion is that I dislike BADLY DONE tattoos. This includes for me, things that are badly drawn, look faded, or have technically bad technique to them.
And most of the time, I tend to dislike tattoos that cover any portion of the breast or if they cover (on a female) more than 1/4 of any specific body part.
I do like Janine's sleeve, but it's particularly well done and I find it beautiful.

I got my first tattoo at the beginning of what many consider to be the time when tattoos became 'in'. Pamela Anderson already had her barbed wire one.
But my belly button piercing was on me long before MTV or it's viewers ever heard of Britney.
To me, the work that I've had done is an outward sign of my personality, the same as a hairstyle or a clothing choice. The fact that it's permanent made me think about it that much harder, but it makes me love it much, much more.

Oh, and GS - Man, I wish you had a picture of that snake tattoo. I can only assume that the guy was gay, but I would have begged anyone with a tattoo like that to show me his dick!!!!!!!!!!

I understand that tattoos are permanent and carry a bad connotation with them for many people, but I wonder what the difference would be between seeing a girl for one time with a somewhat nice tattoo, and seeing a girl for one time with somewhat nice face makeup. ? Or with earrings or jewelry that make a bold statement?

I fail to understand tattoos and I try to avoid flicks with tattooed girls. It seems to me that most tattoos are permanent memorials to temporary feelings. I don't have this problem with Samoan porn girls however.

Tattoos are no fad, human beings have been tattooing their body for over 10 thousand years. Tattooing grows with popularity every year. Just like pornography does. I am not for or against tattoos, personally I could care less. I myself have a tattoo or two, I could take them or leave them. Even cavemen, tattooed their body with soot from a hardend wooden stick from the fire. After age 18, I say live and let live. Belladonna has a huge tattoo on her chest and other places, Janine has over 100 hundred tattoo's. Both girls are big stars, would they be any bigger without them, no.
Janine married a multi-millionare named Jesse James. She lives in a beautiful beach house that Jesse bought, before she met him, she was living in an 2 bedroom apartment. Jesse
liked her tattoos, so for Janine, her tattoos paid off.
Belladonna has the best directing gig there is in porn, Evil Angel. For the chosen few, money wise, nothing beats Evil Angel. Nobody!
There are guys who do not like tattoo's, there are guys who love tattoo's and guys who could care less. Regardless, the same amount of DVD's will be sold.
Maybe Dion will do a line, for the fetish of not wanting any tattoos in a movie. What do you say Dion, can you cover this fetish for us?

I'm not sure the argument can be made that tattoos enhance the appeal of any porn star. It seems to me that it's either a neutral thing or a negative one. If you're popular or have some unique talent (such a Bella) or attribute (such as Julian), that can be overlooked. But I've yet to see any tattoo that I can asthetically say "boy, she's that much better with the art than without."

Most of the time, you get crap like this that is completely distracting and doesn't enhance the performer at all.

God, exactly. I would be such a huge fan of Friday, for instance, if it weren't for that freakin' F.

I actually have very little aversion to tattoos as long as they're kept out of the key areas. Small of back: Fine. Right on the breast: In the fucking way.

Skeeter makes an interesting point. It seems that literally every other "fetish" has its own line... would it be worth it to fill a flick with all un-illustrated girls? I personally wouldn't care enough to seek it out, but would any of the rest of you? And what would we name it?

"I don't have the foggiest idea why the strong inclination to get tattoos" -> aw, come on, guys, give me a friggin break. thing is, there's tons of people out there considering tattoos to be a beautiful art form, who get some ink because they love it. as sure as there's tattoos with some deeper meaning, looking for EXPLANATIONS why people get ink is a tad bit silly.

Saki-
For once, I don't quite agree with you.

Long before they were the megastars they are today, I highly identified Jenna with her Heartbreaker tattoo and Jill Kelly with her lips on the butt. I called it her Kiss My Ass tattoo.
If they didn't have those, would they still have become stars? Most likely. I'm just saying it was an identifiable feature for me to spot them among a sea of fake-boobie blondes.

Perhaps so... I don't think there's anything wrong with a modest tattoo, especially if it's distinctive and tasteful; I just don't think it makes a career. I certainly think a bad one can break one, though.

I don't think this is really any different than getting breast implants. Done correctly, it could be a good thing, but more often than not, they're either obvious or in some cases, botched. Given the frequence of the latter, I'd rather not see them at all.

But did those tattoos make either of them better looking or just easier to remember? I'd maintain it's the latter. To me, being more identifiable, is not necessarily "better".

It's easier to identify from the tattoos, no doubt. Case in point for me was Jack Hammer. He has outstanding tattoos.

Piercings are jewelry, they can be removed with little permanent effect. As such I can't see why anyone could really have a problem with them, except for obvious medical reasons. Tongue, nipple, penis, and clit piercings can all have very serious ramifications. You can loose some of your sense of taste or damage your ability to speak clearly very easily with a tongue piercing and there's nothing sexy about not being able to pronouce words with S and T in them. Also those balls bash the hell out of your teeth. Also, I imagine that while punching holes through extremely sensitive areas and filling them with metal can cause those areas to feel much more sensitive for a time that over longer time periods you might start to lose sensation.

As for tattoos, they can be very sexy and I don't really see anything wrong with them either. But they rarely constitute a real artistic statement, and I have never met an artist, myself included, that would want to look at the same picture for the rest of their lives, no matter how good it is. They tend to always want to make something new, at least the good ones, and paintings you can't change or get rid of tend to aggravate the hell out of most painters.
