Just wondering why the turnover rate for female talent in gonzo is so high? I was watching a movie yesterday released in 2003 and none of the performers (Kelly Kroft, Cameron Cain, etc.) are still around, at least to my knowledge. Is it the constant anal, too many fresher faces entering the industry almost daily? What is the reason female talent seems to be here today, gone tomorrow?

I don't think burnout is necessarily the reason. A lot of it is the demand for new faces. That's pretty much driven the industry for the last fifteen years.

First of all, can we make "(actress name's) asshole blew out" the standard colloquialism for porn retirement? Every question wondering about an inactive performer has to include that speculation.

Anyway, I'll bring a few ideas to the answer. First, many girls take on too much of a workload getting into adult movies, especially in gonzo. To last for more than a few months in gonzo, a performer has to be attractive beyond the "fresh meat" criteria, and has to radiate sexuality on screen. I can't speak for Cameron Cain, because I never saw one of her scenes, but Kelly Kroft looked like a jailbait case, one of those girls whose novelty was that she looked way too young. Sex-wise, she never looked like she was enjoying it that much. Once she was in the industry for a while, she was no longer able to be hired as "fresh meat," and the pornographers moved on to the next girl off the bus.

And let's not forget that many girls just don't want to be in the business for an extended period of time. Their ambition is to shoot a few scenes, make some money, go home, and get on with their lives. It's as simple as that sometimes.

Right, it's a quick fix thing.

Don't forget, in many case all cliches apply: They are on drugs, get forced into situations they don't like, do it anyway, get hurt. run home. Or the family finds out. Or they get pregnant. Or they get religion. Or they marry Manuel Ferrarra.

But oddly I'm noticing more girls like Tianna Lynn or Missy Monroe, Gia Paloma, Arianna Jollee, who are still banging away -- so it's not a lock, in that sense that every girl flees after 6 mos. But then in order to outlast the 6-month window of opportunity, you have to be able to transform and really be an intense performer And I think you have to love it -- that's probably the major difference right there.

There are probably a lot more companies & productions right now than there was in the eighties or early nineties, and if you add internet shoots to the mix, there's this temptation for the girls to work any other day to make as much money as possible, which probably was simply not an issue even 10 years ago. I don't know to what extent their agents may also pressure them to work as much as possible, at the risk of instant burn-out.

I also suspect that because of what Vodka describes, some girls can make a lot of money in a short time, and may decide they are content with that. When you are 20, $100k is a LOT.

Don't forget that some girls catch something too. No one likes to talk about it but I bet it's more common than many people think.

I think many hope to get a contract and make it big in porn land.

There was a recent thread about how girls prepare for anal scenes, which often includes manipulation of diet, and many more extreme routines. I can see how that could burn out the whole body if the gonzo performer does a lot of anal, as most seem to.

skronk buddy-look at the people you offered as examples of longevity. one overdosed in public, one has hepatitis, and one is stealing off to eastern-rurope to do a 65-guy anal gangbang then was back to work the next week. and this is leaving out rumors that include glass-addictions and self-mutilation.

me too. i ve been in the industry for 2 years, doing anal, DP's and double anal... 95% of my scenes are anal so far.

i dont do drugs. i dont even smoke.
i m disease-free and down-to-earth. and i know other girls like that . Sandra Romain, Katja Kassin are good examples.

Nobody's perfect.

I just picked those names at random. I am not their daddy.

And, yeah, Melissa, I was thinking of the same girls. You don't have to be a cracked-out porn cliche to succeed ... 0bviously.

it's interesting that the girls mellissa correctly pointed out aren't american. i'm not sure of the signifigance other than anyone choosing to work abroad at that age is likely going to be pretty together/motivated.

also, mellissa's uncommonly-attractive for gonzo and that prevents her from getting shot-out and she's obviously totally demonic and unlikely to be affected by the same things most are.

Question:

Why the Quick Burnout in Gonzo?

Answer(s):

Drugs quickly takes it's toll on their health and looks.

Double anal quickly takes it's toll on their bowels.

Knowing that someone as diabolical as Max Hardcore actually exists outside of B horror movies quickly takes it's toll on their faith (if they had any to begin with).

An everlastingly itchy crotch quickly takes it's toll on their nerves.

Cum shots accidentally blasted up their nose quickly takes it's toll on their sinuses.

A face coated in the jiz of ex-felons quickly takes it's toll on their psyche.

Living and/or sleeping with Dick Nasty sucks.

Porn doesn't progress because it doesn't need to.

Simple. As. That.

Most consumers just want something that will aid them in a quick release. They can't be bothered with pesky details. If the girls are attractive to them and the important stuff is captured clearly, they will most likely be satisfied.

I should know, I'm one of these people. I could really give a fuck which director recently mastered the simplistic art of a stairwell tease.

At least 85 - 95% of the participants in this daffy little business are there to make a quick, easy buck. And who can blame them, really. It's a financially lucrative profession and sodomizing barely legal chicks is far more rewarding than working with the mentally challenged or elderly.

You could probably count on one hand who is trying to elevate this business beyond mediocrity. For every Mason, there are a dozen Mike South's. And referring to them as "Mike South's" is probably being inordinately kind.

See below comment for the reason why porn doesn't progress, but instead regresses .... If Skeeter, Dez, three-quarters of the RLD crew, etc, etc, had half the life experience and understanding & appreciation of women -- not to mention exposure to actual filmmaking techniques -- of Silvera, Leslie, Stag, etc, etc -- then porn wouldn't suck quite as bad as it presently does. Porn is about revealing SECRETS -- and when the same girl licks a thousand asses, gets gaped a thousand times in the same exact way, NOTHING is revealed, you sad motherfuckers .... though your small minds might think otherwise.

Excuse my candor, I'm as drunk as Skronk after a night at .... do you go to Max Fish, Skronk, or does it suck now? Is the Spiral still there? Last I heard, stupid white chicks who didn't understand that White Privilege doesn't hold sway on the streets of the Lower East Side were getting shot outside of my old haunts ... if only there was a way to cleanse NYC of the yuppie clones, I could ... um, Escape From L.A. ... & ... come home again.

sigh.

& y'know, porn seemed so much COOLER from there, too ... once you're in the heart of it you're forced to realize what an absolute crew of illiterate retards you're dealing with ... no longer doused in the excusatory patina of exotic flora & fauna, they just become a bunch of painfully obvious & mentally, aesthetically-challenged troglydytes ... you should hear all the junior-high school "brilliant" schemes they're coming up with imagining how to circumvent the tightening of the 2257 regs ....

Except for my FRIENDS, of course, like Zupko, I LUVZ all my "friends" ...

"Drinks for all my FRIENDS!!!!!"

but the burnout syndrome(*) isn´t limited to the adult biz:
other areas are also affected - so why should the porn biz be an exception to the rule ?
___________
(*)
Burnout

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Burnout is a psychological term for the experience of long-term exhaustion and diminished interest, usually coming immediately after an extended period of overwork. It is also used as an English slang term to mean exhaustion.

Computer programmers are often prone to burnout. See death march for instance. However, research has shown that it is more likely to affect those in the care industries. Cordes and Doherty (1993), in their study of employees within this industry, found that workers who have frequent intense or emotionally charged interactions with others are more susceptible to burnout. Still, burnout can affect workers of any kind.

Students are also prone to burnout at the high school and college levels.

Burnout is also English slang for a habitual user of drugs.

Burnout is also English slang for spinning the wheels on a car so that they smoke. As in "Do a burnout, mate!"

Burnout is also a game series created by the UK games company Criterion Games, and involves the user to race through things like oncoming traffic, and recently (in Burnout 3) taking down the opposition (referred to as a takedown) to gain burnout points for extra boost to their car in order to win the race.

Without trying to contemplate the esoteric element of cultural decline and how this subject is a representation of that, I approach this topic from a more rudimentary position. What is this industry's basic elements? It is primarily a graphic depiction of fantasy and escapism of, in the case of straight porn, male sexual predilections.
The porn market is divided into genres and production companies make an effort to provide a segment of that market with a product that meets their needs and desires at a given time. As this applies to the "Gonzo" segment, an adjective that is used too broadly IMHO, the demand is for the "Fresh and the New". The demand is for a new set of women to be gaped, DP'd, cock gagged etc. all for the consumption of the public.
This demand causes several pressures to be put into action. The first is the "Meat Grinder" effect where a constant stream of new talent must be provided. The second is the further segmentation of the industry into product categories that actually perpetuates the stale and repetitive nature of the current offerings. The third is the phenomenon of the rarity of women actually transcending this system to last past several months and having careers in this field that is measured in years rather than weeks or months. There are more but this is already too long of a post.
The whole point is that after a woman has been in this industry for several months she has been filmed doing every act that is marketable. Now unless she has developed a public following that will buy product featuring her, just to see her, then she begins to loose bookings from producers. I am not discounting the women's personal decisions to stop performing because of private life pressures, that is a strong reason but is really to variable to consider externally. What you are left with is the reality that the entire industry is centered around a few "Stars" that last and there is way too much product being produced to be filled with those few. So you need the "filler" girls to complete the 5 scene DVD production. This just feeds the loop of mediocracy and crap that makes up 95% of porn.

I admit I don't know the first thing about the porn industry, but I get the feeling that the burn-out factor in porn really isn't that much different from any other business that is dominated by a surfeit of teenagers making a whole lot of fast cash and fame very quickly and easily.

I've worked in the music biz for almost 20 years and I've seen every new generation of young rock stars getting rich and famous banging away at the one chord on their guitar that they know, only to watch them nose-dive into drug addiction, alcoholism, disease, and bankruptcy, and then when their style gets stale or the Next Big Thing pushes them out of the spotlight they're already broke and living back home with their parents, or worse... the streets. Both are industries where fans are constantly craving the new thing every week, and a large percentage of musicians, from rock to rap, come and go eventually. Or the industry (both industries) unceremoniously spits them back out.

But naturally there are always the exceptions. Women like Melissa Lauren who appear to have their priorities straight and a clear head can probably continue to change and grow with the industry and take something substantial away from it for themselves whenever they chose to retire. There are a lot of people in the music biz who are there to make a lot of loot, get fucked, get famous, which no doubt applies to porn as well. But it will be the select group of young people who love the industry enough that can stay focused and make it last.

Not in a long time. I try to avoid that area. Yuppie scum, etc. Still a cool bar, though. I hang out at 2A. Worst you can run into there is one of the Strokes or a Fountain of Wayne. Not so bad. Nice 2-for-1 happy hour, too.

Yeah, just because, this night I´d had the pleasure listening a 2 hours feature about Neil Young:
That´s what he might say:
It’s better to burn out
Than to fade away

My my, hey hey
Rock and roll is here to stay
It’s better to burn out
Than to fade away
My my, hey hey.

Out of the blue and into the black
They give you this, but you pay for that
And once you’re gone, you can never come back
When you’re out of the blue and into the black.

The king is gone but he’s not forgotten
This is the story of a johnny rotten
It’s better to burn out than it is to rust
The king is gone but he’s not forgotten.

Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There’s more to the picture
Than meets the eye.
Hey hey, my my.

The yuppies are just about everywhere in L.A.., Picman, but I knew the job was dangerous when I took it ... the thing I always loved about NYC was that outside of their enclaves, the yuppies didn't rule anywhere merely through the force of cash (or plastic). In fact, arguably the coolest club in town (Jackie 60) took great pride & joy in NOT letting in the clueless Armani-suited gawkers who had nothing to add to the mix but their money & sense of self-entitlement.

It's not L.A. is without its, uh, "hip" side, but what passes for underground intellectuals & artists here are pretty much the equivalent of talk-but-not-do freshman art-school wannabes compared to the old East Coast days ... & we're talking about people in my advanced age bracket, not the 18-22 crowd who get some grace thanks to their youth!

Of course, it does come into play that I'm a jaded, cynical aging curmudgeon ... but hey, we need a place to drink without wanting to vomit on the "swinger" next to us, too!

Sorry to be a thread killer but I'm assuming this topic was just an excuse to get people talking, since the answer to it is so obvious & easily stated, certainly by the regulars here.

DAC, there's always Marz Bar -- and the girls who bartend there have a much higher burnout rate than gonzo girls.

I never see yuppies in there. Just blind dwarves, drunk Injuns, felons, rocker skank, junkies, the living dead and young chicks so hot they burn your eyeballs with the gleam off their navel piercings. I pumped $5 in the juke one time. I punched one song 17 times:

Motorhead, "Ace of Spades."

No one even blinked for the next 45 minutes.

I don't know how long it will hold out against the NYU onslaught. They did not respect Edgar Allan Poe. I doubt they will respect crippled dwarves and blind drunk Injuns. CBGB's? Buy your merchandise now. The men's room toliet belongs in the Smithsonian.

Cry! The beloved country!

OK, I at least mentioned drugs and skanks and navel piercings, so we are vaguely still on-topic.
